SHEPHERD’S CORNER….Cameron Davis

On Wednesday night during Ken's always excellent Bible class he mentioned Acts 10, with Peter preach-ing to Cornelius and quoted 10:38 about "Christ doing good." This got me to thinking about what that should look like for us today.

Acts 10:36-38 (NKJV) 36 “The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Je-sus Christ, He is Lord of all 37 that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”

First, we must "do good." At this time of year everyone seems to be focused on good deeds, giving and being good. However, you and I are bound by Christ to do good everyday to everyone. This is easy to say but a hard thing to practice. I fail at it. I let my feelings and thoughts get in the way. Then we must "act good" re-gardless of circumstances. We must be Christ-like in all things. We must react to things as Christ did and would. The little bracelet WWJD may be a marketing gadget, but it is no less true. We must reflect Jesus in our actions. Also we must "sound good." We can’t be telling off colored jokes and laughing at crude com-ments by others. Certainly we must "look good." We should not be wearing clothing, male and female, that would embarrass our Lord should he be walking with us and you do know He is always here. No matter how much good we do, if it isn't packaged in a manner that is Christ-like it isn't going to be Christ-pleasing. Let’s all focus on "doing good" as we go forward. Pray for forgiveness when we have failed in the past. Let’s help one another get to Heaven. Let’s make 2016 the year that we all "went about doing good" for Christ and his church.

FROM KEN’S PEN

With the drop in temperatures (although we have not yet seen the falling of snow and ice), we do not have to look at the calendar to know what time of year it is. The radio is playing songs of the holiday season; the streets in town are decorated with holiday greetings; houses and yards are displaying holiday themes in brightly colored lights; children are trying to be good because they believe they are being watched 24/7; traffic is worse than ever; lines in the stores are longer than usual; the house smells like ham, turkey, cakes, pies and cookies; diets are suffering from extreme neglect; the evening newspaper is thick with sale ads; the mail-box has more pieces of mail than normal (and they are not all bills!); closets, attics, and "under the bed" are declared "off limits" to the kids (at least for a couple of weeks); Dad and Mom (and the Lord) are hearing some rather strange requests included in bed-time prayers; school-teachers have a "glazed and dazed" look in their eyes as they try to keep the attention of students on school-work instead of the Christmas/New Year break; travel plans are tentatively made in view of the unpredictable weather; Jimmy Stewart becomes the most popular movie star again, and Bing Crosby is at the top of the music charts once more; and an occa-

sional "Bah, humbug!" is heard muttered in the line at the Post Office! Yes, it's "THAT TIME OF YEAR!"

Diane and I want to thank you for every card and every expression of good-will you have sent for us dur-ing this holiday season. From our family to yours, may you have a joyous holiday, and a safe and prosperous 2016. To borrow words from the apostle Paul, "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all" (2 Corinthians 13:14).

Borderline Christians

There is a story of a county superintendent of education who had three applications to fill one va-

cancy among school bus drivers. He devised this scheme for selecting the proper man.

The superintendent took the first applicant to a sharp curve on a steep grade along the road and asked, “How close can you drive the bus to the edge of the road on the curve without going over the

cliff with the children?”

The interested driver looked and replied. “I believe I can go to within two inches and still be safe.”

The second person who had applied for the job heard the same proposition. He checked the curve and told the county official, “I believe I can drive within one inch of the edge and not go over the

precipice.”

When the superintendent took the third driver to the same highway scene and made a similar proposition to him, the applicant immediately asked, “Do you think I am crazy? I’m not interested in seeing how close I can get to the edge with the bus. I’ll be trying to see how far I can keep away from

the danger line with the bus.”

He received the job.

There is a borderline between the church and the world for the Christian. The church means “the called out from the kingdom of sin.” John said, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the

world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in Him” (I John 2:15).

One who seeks to stay just as near the world of sin as possible and still follow Christ has the wrong attitude. An individual, as the driver, should stay just as far away from the danger zone as possible.

Paul wrote, “Abhor that which is evil cleave to that which is good” (Romans 12:9).
