Aboriginal Education and Training Policy
The Policy aims to:
• improve educational outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and learners in schools and TAFE and community colleges, so that they excel and achieve in every aspect of their education and training; and
• build everyone’s knowledge and understanding of the histories, cultures and experiences of the First Peoples of Australia.

Aboriginal Education and Training Policy
It is the goal of the Department that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students will match or better the outcomes of the broader student population.
Priorities within the Policy:
Aboriginal education and training is core business for all staff
collaborative decision making with Aboriginal people and communities
providing support for ‘mandatory Aboriginal cultural education through professional learning and career development experiences for all staff’
integrating actions into existing planning, implementation, review and reporting processes.

What is different from previous policies?
• It applies to all areas of the Department of Education and Training.
• All staff employed in schools, TAFE Institutes, Regional Offices, State Offices and Adult & Community Education (ACE) are responsible for putting the policy into action.

Aboriginal Education and Training Policy
Sections 4 and 5 of the Policy indicate:
• responsibilities
• delegations
• monitoring, evaluation and reporting requirements
All staff are responsible for implementing the Policy and ensuring that their actions comply with it.
For leaders and workplace managers they emphasise:
• consulting with Local and Regional AECGs and Aboriginal communities
• implementing the Policy
• incorporating actions within school planning that comply with the Policy
• monitoring the effectiveness of their plans
• reporting on achievements against outcomes and targets.

The Policy is to be implemented:
• within the planning and day to day work of each school, campus, college and workplace; and
• in partnership with the NSW AECG Inc., Aboriginal communities and organisations
