PACE


Students Need…

• A Mentor and an Advocate.

• A “business approach” to their career and academic efforts.

• Training on how to make good choices for their life.

• To be shown what is possible.


Program Constraints

• A viable PACE program must recognize that students are neither static nor are they “cookie cutter”.

• A viable PACE program must recognize and teach to the differences between grades, age, and specialty.

• All PACE teaching must be meaningful to both the teacher and the student.


Freshman Topics

• Character: Citizenship, Honesty, Respect, Self-Discipline

• General Life: PACE Folder, Time Management

• Life Skills: Peer Pressure, Test Taking Strategies.

• Core Competencies: Communication, Problem Solving

• Teachable Moments: What is needed given the student circumstances at the time. Flexibility is a must!


Sophomore Topics

• Character: Empathy, Imagination, Peacefulness.

• General Life: Overcoming Procrastination

• Leadership: Image, Making Choices

• Life Skills: Decision Making Through Research.

• Core Competencies: Employability Skills, Information Management.


Junior Topics

• Character: Endurance, Integrity, Responsibility.

• General Life: Goal Setting, Stress Management.

• Leadership: Taking the Lead, Personal Responsibility, Vision.

• Core Competencies: Technology, Problem Solving.


Senior Topics

• Character: Courage, Health, Loyalty

• General Life: Lifestyles of the Rich and Struggling.

• Leadership: Taking the Lead in the “Real World”, Teamwork, Values.

• Life Skills: Life after High School, Getting a Job.

• Senior Life: Finding money, Portfolios, Senior Year, Workplace Ethics.


PACE Teaches Core Competencies

• Business leaders have told us that there are 5 Core Competencies that mark good employees. They are:– Communication Skills– Problem Solving Skills– Information Management Skills– Technology Skills– Employability Skills


In Conclusion…

• PACE can become the conduit to bridging the gap between the academics all students must learn, and the skills necessary to deal with “real world” issues students will face in their life.
