decomposition by-products potentially reducing degassing
times, offering significant productivity to cable producers.
Lowers CostsDue to the higher efficiency of LOWINOX® FAST XL, cable
producers can optimize their formulation costs by lowering their
peroxide and antioxidant dosage by 6-8%, without compromising
the mechanical and electrical performance of the cable.
eXtremely ReliableUnlike the traditional liquid antioxidant, LOWINOX® FAST XL
provides a robust technical solution which overcomes dosage
inaccuracy effects during production. This enables a much broader
processing window and reduces off-grade production by 2%.
Less DowntimeThe use of traditional liquid antioxidants results in the build-up
of discolored material on the extrusion equipment at the screen-
pack. After XLPE cable production, using LOWINOX® FAST XL, no
discolored material build-up was observed either on the equipment
or screen-pack which resulted in a reduced downtime for cleaning the
extrusion equipment.

LOWINOX® FAST XL gives a 40% increase in maximum torque1 at equivalent antioxidant and peroxide content compared to today’s state of the art liquid antioxidant. Increased torque indicates a greater degree of crosslinking of the XLPE insulation which improves the mechanical properties of the insulation. 1measured by Moving Die Rheometer at 180oC
To check quality consistency 30 km of industrial cable was produced and samples were taken from different points along the production run. The tensile properties before and after ageing at 135oC for 7 days are consistent throughout the 30 km length. LOWINOX® FAST XL provides excellent quality and performance consistency in industrial cable production.
LOWINOX® FAST XL meets or exceeds all performance parameters critical for a cable producer compared to the current industrial benchmark.
Laboratory data2 indicates that by using LOWINOX® FAST XL, cable producers should be able to run their CV lines at least 5% faster without compromising technical performance, compared to the current industrial benchmark. 2measured by Moving Die Rheometer at 180oC
Excellent stability with peroxide allows premixing long in advance; providing cable producers with greater production flexibility and manpower reduction. Furthermore, LOWINOX® FAST XL remains pourable down to minus 40oC ensuring easier handling and lower energy costs.
During cable production, peroxide and antioxidant dosing inaccuracies can affect the thermal ageing properties of the final cable. This data shows that at specific antioxidant/peroxide ratios, XLPE compounds produced with the current state of the art industrial liquid antioxidant fail the thermal aging test3. LOWINOX® FAST XL overcomes this problem ensuring more consistent cable quality and aging performance.

W&C MARKET TRENDS & INDUSTRY CHALLENGES
The world is demanding significantly more electricity delivered via enhanced sustainable solutions. From 2010 to 2040, the global demand for electricity is projected to grow by 85%. By 2040 a quarter of this demand will be from China alone. To meet this demand, significant investment in infrastructure will be required: North America will spend $750 billion on transmission and distribution in the next 15 years. The drive to curb greenhouse emissions, will increase electricity generation from renewable sources. In the EU electricity generation from renewable energy sources is expected to reach 28% by 2030. As a consequence windfarms will be built in remote land locations or further offshore, increasing transmission distances and therefore the need for longer and more reliable power cables.
Power failure rates are increasing in frequency as are power outage costs, accelerating the need to increase cable reliability. In the US between 1999 and 2012 power outages increased at a CAGR of approximately 7%, costing $150 billion annually. With longer transmission distances and especially undergrounding, it is critical that cables perform reliably for over 50 years. Cable companies require the perfect quality and highest reliability of raw materials to enable their next generation cables to meet the new standards. At the same time, cable producers are looking for higher productivity and faster throughput to optimize their operations to be competitive and to meet customer demands for lower life-cycle costs.
THE SOLUTION FOR CABLE PRODUCERS: LOWINOX® FAST XL
Increased Productivity for Cross-linked Polyethylene Insulated Power Cables
LOWINOX® FAST XL requires less time to cross-link the polyethylene insulation compounds compared to existing commercial liquid antioxidants, enabling faster cable production line speeds.
Improved Cable Reliability and Performance Consistency LOWINOX® FAST XL is less sensitive to variations in peroxide dosage levels than alternative liquid antioxidants ensuring greater consistency in the final cross-linked polyethylene insulation properties throughout long cable production lengths. More consistent properties ensure improved cable reliability.
Cleaner Cross-linked Insulation Compounds LOWINOX® FAST XL is a liquid antioxidant solution that enables filtration prior to dosing, which reduces the risks of particulate contaminants in the insulation which can lead to premature cable failures.
