Conclusions § Our outdoor air pollution has changed in the second half of the 20th

century but it still exerts a very large health burden in the UK.

§ Outdoors we have yet to achieve EU (and UK) limits for NO2 that were set in 1999 to be met by 2010.

§ Although we meet EU (and UK) limits for PM this exerts a health burden equivalent to 29,000 premature deaths per year in the UK (COMEAP 2010) including 3,500 in London (Walters et al 2015). This could be as high as 40,000 deaths (RcP, 2016) per year if we include NO2, 9,500 in London.

§ Although our buildings offer some protection from outdoor air pollution, but the outdoor air comes in, and what we do each day affects our exposure.
