THEATRE / MOVIE REVIEW

Book Review : Wonder R.J. Palacio "My name is August. I won't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, It’s probably worse." While reading this book I was taken on an incredible emotional journey. The book is heartfelt and refreshing. The book is about a 10-year-old boy, August who like any young boy loves ice cream and riding his bike but despite 27 operations he will never look normal. August is unlucky to have a double dose of a mutant gene that prevents him from leading a normal life with his family. The book details the family’s decision to enrol August in a school which delves into complex emotions and complex relationship in simplistic language. The author not only dives into August’s story but also of his protective sister and has done full justice to the sim-ple story of a family faced with a tough decision. The author provides a realistic look at the brutality of the world but suffused with love and goodness which makes us appreciate the goodness of the world and pro-vides hope and inspirations. I really recommend this book if you are looking for a heart-warming and motivating book with simple lan-guage which can even attract non-readers. Hannah Mubarak XI G

Rock Sport THEATRE : A MULTITUDE OF TALENTS Theatre is a unique platform to express your creativity. The live performance of the artists leaves you awestruck. Recently, I went to watch a play titled ‘Mahabharat’ at Kamani Auditorium. It was depiction of Mahabharat from the perspective of Duryodhan. The role of Duryodhan was played by the famous actor Puneet Issar. He also directed the play. The mannerism of audience is quite different in theatre. The audience is suave and generous with appreciation yet gentle. The props, costumes, music and IT enabled back drops were the highlight of the play. The power packed performance left me spell bound. It was not only entertaining but also a great learning experi-ence. Delhi’s theatre scene is quite happening . Nandini Rastogii VI C

ENCHANTED FOREST - Aarav Yadav 2 A One day I woke up, I was in an enchanted forest. The enchanted forest was very shiny. The mountains were colourful,They were shining like pearl. The land and the grass was golden. Then I saw a colorful hyena, who was crying in pain. I was

very sad about him. Suddenly a medicine box came there, I applied some antisep-tic on his wound and he became fine. Then we were thirsty. We went to the river which was golden. We drank that potion and we grew tall and tall. When I was

hungry, I went to tree house and I ate a carrot it tasted like a mango! I was sur-prised. Then I saw that the sun changed its colour, it became pink and the sky became yellow. I was shocked, because when I said “rain” it started raining and when I said “cold”, it started snowing . Then my mother woke me up, it was morn-

ing and it was time to go to school. It was just a dream which was very real.

SPELL BEE QUIZ

English spelling system is not at all predictable. Some words are spelled according to phonic sounds some need to be memorized. To make word memorization fun and playful, Amity International school Mayur Vihar organized a nail biting inter house spell bee quiz. In the quiz different class groups had different rounds. All team members participated with great zeal and enthusiasm. It made memorizing spelling fun. At the end Mandakini house won the quiz competition and Coordina-tor Ms. Jasleena Kohli applauded their efforts and presence of mind.

ROCKSPORT ADVENTURE CAMP

‘Adventure sports for students are highly motivational and practical which are unlikely to be seen from the normal classroom environment.’ In order to inculcate different life skills, Amity Mayur Vihar organised an adventure Camp in the school campus, for the students of classes 1 to 5 on 19th and 20th November 2019 .

These activities aimed at maintaining fitness level and the physical mental bal-ance of a student. The students were divided into groups and each group was as-signed a group leader. The children gained new perspective as they got to face different obstacles in the form of activities like Burma Bridge, Commando Net, Tyre Maze, Zip lining, Wall Climbing, Zorbing, Tug of War etc. These activities aimed at building team spirit, friendship and trust amongst each other. It was a fun filled day and the students made memories to be cherished forever.

Children's Day in different countries

Did you know that Children's Day is not only cele-brated in India, but in other countries as well like USA, Australia, Mexico and many more.

While in our country it is celebrated on 14th No-vember, because of the birthday of Jawaharlal Neh-ru, in other countries it is celebrated because of different reasons.

The United States has selected first or second Sun-day of the month of June to celebrate the spirit of children who are the future of the nation. It also marks the whole week as the Family Week.

Australia has declared Children's Day on the first Sunday of July, while it cele-brates the last week of October as Children's week. It holds cultural activities on the occasion and collects funds for the disadvantaged kids by selling cards for the day. Before its unification, Germany had two days on which Children's day would be celebrated. Now most parents celebrate the day on June 1.|

However in Mexico, the occasion, which is known as "El Dia Del Nino"is marked on April 30. This day children go to school to attend a fiesta and are given gifts by the school authorities. They also participate in a special parade organised for them.

In Singapore, it's October 1 which is a holiday for kids and every school celebrates it in a different way by organising fairs, cultural programmes and parade.

AN OPEN LETTER TO CITIZENS My Fellow Citizens The biggest challenge that our country is facing in the present times is that of pollu-tion. The haze that defines the skyline of Delhi is keeping the health of citizens for ransom. The repercussions can not be felt in total-ity at the moment but the warning bells have been rung. The beautiful and pristine environment that was gifted to us by our ancestors has been brutally marred by human greed and carelessness. This heirloom was a legacy that was to be passed on to posterity has been plundered by the selfishness of humans. Enough has been said , the blame has been passed from one conscientious group to another, the repeated failures of the authorities to deal with the situation has led to helplessness. Solution to a problem will only come when the blame game will stop. It is not important to know, “Who had done it?” What is imperative is to look for the answer to, “ What should be done now?” My Fellow Citizens, we should not add to the woes of our country. We should look forward to bring a change in our life style and attitude. We should all become the Green Warriors and leave the greatest of all wealths- clean air for our future gener-ations. We must all invest in clean air by disinvesting our greed and indifference. Sparsh Rastogi XI G

MALEFICENT: MISTRESS

Genre: Action & Adventure, Science Fiction & Fantasy Directed By: Joachim Rønning Written By: Linda Woolverton, Micah Fitzerman-Blue, Noah Harpster Review :In Disney's "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil," a sequel to the 2014 global box office hit, Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora begin to question the complex family ties that bind them as they are pulled in different directions by impending

nuptials, unexpected allies and dark new forces at play. The years have been kind to Maleficent and Aurora. Their relationship, born of heartbreak, revenge and ultimate-ly love, has flourished. Yet the hatred between man and the fairies still exists. Auro-

ra's impending marriage to Prince Phillip is cause for celebration in the powerful new alliance, Maleficent and Aurora are pulled apart to opposing sides in a Great War, testing their loyalties and causing them to question whether they can truly be

family. It is a visually and emotionally exquisite tale that is simply beautiful.

I LOVE MY SCHOOL LIFE - Pehel sharma 7C

School life is your best moment, and full of enjoyment.

Running around the school and incomplete notebooks are not our only nooks.

Though getting up at 7am is not so fun,

but after reaching school, chasing each other under the bright sun,

isn’t that cool?

Going to carnival with friends and doing Columbus seven times, dancing on rock show instead of learning our play lines.

Laughing on others, but being with each other as brothers and sisters, is all that brings me happiness that can’t be sold.

Life just takes a second To turn up all those questions and problems That you have been avoiding lately The truth you never wanted to know because it tears you apart The "what will people say" phase The people who are not less than a snake The non-happy endings The unsaid goodbyes Are you scared of them too? “THE FOUR RULES OF LIFE” Believe in yourself Believe in others. Being aware of the limitations And limits for your curious feathers. Believe is a word that means trust Trust all your surroundings with care. Believe that the world is positive Believe and trust but be beware. Education is another rule This can make you rule the world. This is the strongest and the immortal tool For everyone including girls. You can gain it from everywhere From rich or from a poor. In this nothing is small, nothing is big Cause you The third rule is passion, Find yours and secure it. It can be cooking, dancing or fashion Move further but don’t ever quit. Make your passion your only goal The one that doesn’t let you sleep. Let it be an immortal fire on coal. And for you it should be your grand supreme. The fourth rule is dream Dream about what you want to achieve. Shout, fight, work and scream To get what you want to weave. Dream is not what you see in sleep, It is the one which doesn’t let you sleep. It is the one which brings you deep. CHAVI GAUTAM -VII-C

THE UNFINISHED DANCE I Danced Yesterday, and felt that maybe I was taking the wrong steps. I Danced Yesterday, and saw a great many eyes gawking at my every step. I Danced Yesterday, and thought ‘maybe I shouldn’t do this.’ I Dances Yesterday, and heard many a disgusted sounds ruining the music. I Didn’t Dance Today, and I think that was my greatest mistake. For I didn’t feel like myself, what I saw as I looked in the mirror was someone else. What I thought as I looked in the mirror was how despicable it felt, hearing my own voice coming from a mind so defeated that it could not possibly be mine. I Will Dance Tomorrow, but perhaps tomorrow might be too late. Yashaswini Sharma IX - B

CRAZE OF SOCIAL MEDIA Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter have become source of major distractions for students. Young boys and girls seem to have become inordinately addicted to these sites. They are thought-lessly and uselessly wasting their precious time on these sites. Wise people say time well utilized is time well spent, but the youth of today is only and only wasting time on chatting, messaging, uploading pho-tographs and modifying profiles. The smart phones and 4G connec-tions have made the situation worse. Accessing such sites has become so easy that young boys and girls are using these sites almost every-where and almost all the time. Similarly they wait for their favorite TV programs with intense longing. Many questions are for craze of social media like ‘where will this lead to? Are we heading towards only Facebook and Twitter perfection? Where are the objectives of attaining the status of an advanced country?’ There are so many challenges that we face as a nation such as popu-lation density, poverty, unemployment, corruption, pollution, mis-management of our natural resources, etc. It is a pathetic attitude of our youth to lose such objectives out of sight and instead waste their time and energy on such social networking sites .recklessly. Most of the students these days appear to be more worried about con-necting to their friends on Facebook than being concerned about studies. The other major disadvantage of the increasing use of such networking sites is the spread of indecency that is having a very nega-tive impact on the impressionable minds of our young children and leading them astray. The parents, teachers (mainly) and the government must look into the

problems being caused by these networking sites and must formulate

a strategy either to curb or completely stop its fast growing negative

influence on the minds of our youth. Our youth is the future of our

nation. We cannot allow this youth to waste their precious time on

the Facebook. The same time spent on social media must be spent on

studying, researching and developing leadership or other life-skills. It

is our moral duty as well as our responsibility to lead our youth on the

right path. Efforts should be made in making our youth, especially the

school students, aware of the disadvantages of such social networking

sites. The authorities should implement some strict regulatory checks

on the functioning of such networking sites in our country. Only with

concerted efforts of parents, teachers and the government, this prob-

lem of addiction of our youth to networking sites can be removed
