The goal of alchemy is to transform base metals or elements into gold. At the Alchemist Canoe Co., we realize that creating a canoe is very much a black art as well. We take raw materi-als and produce the gold standard in the canoe industry and a golden experience for paddlers. The founders of the Alchemist Canoe Co. are paddlers and have worked as wilderness guides, instructors, master boat builders and carpenters, paddle sport retailers, rental / outfitter operators, and canoe and kayak shop owners. They came together because they felt dissatisfied with an industry focused on production and not on the end user. Alchemist Canoe Co. has one goal, to create the ultimate line of canoes in both function and form. Their company slogan says it all - “not all things are created equal!”

This traditionally shaped canoe was created for those who are more excited with the “journey” than the final destination. Inspired by the second best selling hull shape in the history of the canoe, the Chestnut “Bob Special”. With it’s flat bottom, keeled profile and slight rocker, the Journey 15’ gives paddlers a very predictable and stable ride. If you are looking for a small tandem day tripper that can be easily paddled solo, then look no further. Alchemist Canoe Company has created a cottager’s / sportsman’s dream canoe. The Journey series is only available in an infused fiberglass lay-up but be reassured that they are built with the same attention to detail as the performance hulls at 1/2 the price. Teal II deep dish yoke, curved ash seats and ergo-grab handles come as standard features.

With all the same features as the Journey 15 but stretched out and deepened to increase volume and hull speed, this 16’2” canoe has very high initial stability. This makes it the perfect pick for beginner to intermediate paddlers needing a solid predictable feel. Great for fishing, photography, kids and or dogs, yet versatile enough to head out on a back country canoe trip. The Journey 16 is only available in an infused fiberglass lay-up that is built extremely tough and will last a lifetime. SymmetricalLegendWhen the waterways of this country were first explored a seaworthy, efficient and manoeuvrable canoe was developed that could carry everything plus the kitchen sink. Used primarily by fur traders and prospectors (hence the name used by many builders), these canoes became the workhorse of Canadian lakes and rivers. While retaining the characteristics that made these canoes popular amongst back country trippers and day paddlers alike, the Legend 15.7 has been modified from the original Classic Prospector to a smaller volume canoe more suited for long-weekend trips, day paddling or soloing around the lake. The Legend is also a cottage country favorite.

After many requests from Alchemist fans to produce a larger version of their best selling canoe the “Legend 16.7”, the Alchemist Canoe Company is proud to introduce the “Legend 17.7”. It shares all the same characteristics as the “Legend 16.7” but has a higher capacity. An extra foot of interior space will make the 17.7 perfect for families with young kids and/or pets. I guess size sometimes does matter!

That’s right an infused fiberglass lay-up at an unbeatable price. Although a little heavier than kevlar or carbon / kevlar this tough lay-up is designed to last a lifetime. Alchemist Canoe Company also made sure that the interior parts are top notch.

Infused Expedition Kevlar (47 to 51 lbs)Alchemist canoes’ most popular lay-up for back country trippers. Expedition kevlar is tough and yet light. This lay-up also has full abrasion protection with a UV barrier of gelcoat interior and exterior. The innovative interior com-ponents are hand crafted from Canadian black cherry wood.

Infused Carbon / Kevlar (42 to 47 lbs)This lay-up is an industry first! A skeleton cored ultralight lay-up that is built just as tough as the expedition kevlar lay-up and is 5-6 pounds lighter. Weight is saved by using stiff, light weight carbon fiber in the side walls yet the entire bottom of these canoes is kevlar for greater impact

resistance. Weight is also saved by using a thinner interior clear coat layer. In order to help protect the kevlar bottom and give extra abrasion protection, customers get to choose the colour of the exterior gel coat that is put on the bottom of their canoes. Practical, unique, yet stunning!
