From the Pastor’s Desk…

"For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me." Jesus insists that in ministering to others' physical needs, we are truly serving him. "Whatever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did for me," he tells us. And in a similar way, what we fail to do for them, we fail to do for Christ: "What you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me." This means that we have been given both a gift and a task. The gift is the chance to encounter Christ in our brothers and sisters. The task is to be sure we don't neglect the encounter.

The corporal works of mercy provide us with a kind of guide for how to live out this important mission from Christ. These works include feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked, sheltering the homeless, visiting the sick and the imprisoned, and burying the dead. Based on the words of Jesus in today's Gospel, it's an important part of the Christian life to look for ways to engage in these kinds of bodily ministries. Traditionally, these "corporal" works are complemented by a set of "spiritual" works. The spiritual works of mercy ensure that we don't minister to the body at the expense of the soul. They include admonishing the sinner, instructing the ignorant, counseling the doubtful, comforting the sorrowful, bearing wrongs patiently, forgiving all injuries, and praying for the living and the dead. By engaging in these diverse works of mercy, we serve others, love Jesus, and hope to "inherit the kingdom prepared for [us] from the foundation of the world."

Fr.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS NOTICIAS DEL CATECISMO The Lord's Peace be with you!

This Sunday marks the end of Ordinary Time in the Church’s Liturgical Calendar, and we are going out with a bang! We close out the year celebrating the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords. We are fortunate in being subjects of a Sovereign King who is also the Good Shepherd. As we await the birth of our Savior during the upcoming Season of Advent, we are also reminded to be prepared for Christ’s second coming. Nobody knows the day or the hour of the Lord’s return, but we do know that when it takes place we will all be judged. Therefore, it is to our benefit to always seek to do that which is pleasing to God the Father. We have been instructed by the Church as to what is God’s Will: that we follow the Commandments, take part in the sacramental life, live the beatitudes, and the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy. Every time we choose to do good and avoid evil we are living in communion with Christ and His Church. And when we do, we are one step closer to listening from our Lord those amazing words: “Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.” Long live Christ the King!!!

May God richly bless you!

Jose M. Morales, Coordinator of Religious Education

She is currently the president of our parish coun-cil and has been for more than four years. She has been for many years and still is a member of the Finance Council, a money counter and without hesitation has volunteered to count when others have not been able to. She is in the women's club, has worked with our fund-

raising committee, etc. Her professionalism and devotion to our parish is truly an inspiration to us and all who know her. She is a great ex-ample of a follower of Christ and his teachings.

Hector Carrion serves as a Money Counter and lector, is always availa-ble to donate his time for the Food Pantry and oth-er maintenance work as needed.

Josefa Carrion is a big part of the Spanish Pray-er Group, a member of Los Hijos de la Divina Providencia and Quinto Encuentro, participates as a Lector and is always available to help with food preparation for all

activities.

The Parish Giving Tree The holidays are the perfect time to thank God for the good things we have in life. One of the best ways of being thankful is to use our blessings to help those in need. As of Sunday, December 3rd St. Aloysius Parish will have a “Giving Tree” decorated with ornaments asking us to respond to the needs of many different groups: needs within our own Parish and the needs of the students attending St. Aloysius Gonzaga High School in Kenya. Parishioners will be able to take an ornament or two and purchase the items on the ornament. We want to take care of others first. Please make sure that the families and the children in Africa are helped. Please bring the ornament attached to the wrapped gift to the Church by December 20th. You can place your gift monetary/and or gift cards into the collection basket at Mass or you may drop it off at the Parish Office.
