Hello all,

It seems it’s that time again! I would like to thank everyone for their participation and support of the Post. Without your participation there would be no Post.

I would like to remind everyone that on Veteran’s Day we will be having white barbeque chicken and sides that you bring (that’s my way of asking you to bring a dish) after the ceremony at the Bowie Veteran’s Park.

Over the past few weeks we’ve had some very successful events with dinners, the Halloween parties, the “Meet the Candidates” night, and the things I forgot. With that being said, I’m going to keep this short and once again thank everyone for their support and patronage of the Post. Please keep up the support!

Sons of the American Legion,

Here we are into November already; this year is flying by so fast.

First of all, as I have expressed in the past we are off to a good start with the S.A.L. membership, but we still have a lot of unpaid membership and Veterans Day is the cutoff to receive a free dinner, and yes that would be the Early Bird dinner. Dues are $20.00.

If your dues are not paid by December 31, 2019: NO CARD, NO SERVICE, NO EXCEPTIONS

I would like to thank all the workers for the contributing their time for our Car Show and Crab Feast. We had a bigger Car Show this year and sold out the Crab Feast at (100 tickets). A special thank you to James Clark for all his efforts with the Car Show and a special Thanks to Joe and Debbie Clark and the gang for stuffing us with one of best Crab Feasts I’ve ever been too. I would also like to thank everyone that came out to support these 2 functions.

OUR NEXT S.A.L. MEETING IS ON VETERANS DAY, NOVEMBER 11th.

We are back to serving dinners already so check the calendar and our next (Baked Chicken, Salmon) will be on Fri-day 11/15. So keep your eye out for all of the dinners at Post 66 and come out and see us soon.

Well it’s hard to believe that it is November already! Lots behind us and lots ahead. Let’s get started.

The Commanders Dinner was more successful than we could have ever dreamed; we had over 20 past commanders attend. Commander Ed Maenner from the 1960’s was in attendance and we enjoyed his stories of Post 66 over the years. Come back soon Commander. Some commanders brought back their yearbooks from their terms, it was cer-tainly fun to see all the pictures of people and the Post as it went through the years. Thank you Cindy and Cliff Morvant for the loan of your yearbooks so that we could put them in our slideshow. Thanks Patty Hathaway for putting together a terrific slideshow presentation of the many years of Post 66.

The Children’s Halloween Party was a huge success. Our best count was about 45 children. Apple bobbing, games, hayrides, all this takes a lot of work, thanks to all who helped with this venture. A special shout out to Rose and Dell Billings who are always there to decorate, and Dell, thanks for climbing the ladder to put up all the lights for us. Marie Scott won the best decorated trunk for our Trunk or Treat contest. There was no shortage of scary trunks or candy, including a trip through the Legion to collect candy from all inside the Post.

Flags are going back on the fence for Veterans Day November 11. If you would like to have a flag placed on the fence in honor of your veteran, please let me know by emailing me at [email protected] or see me at the post. The flags cost $5 and will be used over and over on the fence for veteran holidays. If you purchased a flag last Memorial Day, your flag will be placed again on the fence this Veterans Day. Let’s see if we can cover the fence end to end. Veteran’s Day Ceremony will be at the Bowie Veterans Park on Monday November 11

th at 11am.

Coming up next on the agenda is the Wreaths Across America Dinner and Raffle on Saturday, November 9th at 5pm. Dinner will be fried shrimp and the raffle will start soon after dinner. We have some amazing items in our raffle this year: a handmade afghan, a bushel of oysters, a Potomac river dinner cruise, new appliances, a gift card tree, bas-kets of all kinds and much more. I’m sure there is something for everyone. Music will be provided after dinner by Kevin McMeans. Come on out, it will be a grand evening! All funds raised will go to providing wreaths for our departed veter-ans at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery. If you can’t make it out to the cemetery and have someone you would like to receive a wreath, let me know, I will make sure they are located and will receive a wreath from you.

Wreaths Across America Day is December 14, 2019. We will be taking part in the ceremony and placing wreaths at 12 pm. Our location is Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, in Crownsville, Md.

The Children’s Holiday Party is on Sunday December 15th. The party is from 2 to 4pm. We will have holiday crafts,

gingerbread cookie decorating, and a special visit from Santa Claus, arriving on a firetruck. Bring your kids and grand-kids, they will have a blast.

As of October, Auxiliary Unit# 66 membership is 2/3 of the way to 100%! Please get your dues in by December 31 so we can make 100% in January and make our Department President even more proud of her home unit.

Just a special note, The Bowie Blade Readers Poll voted the Disney-Bell American Legion Auxiliary Unit 66, the BEST Non-Profit in Bowie!!! Thank You to all who work so hard to earn us the community recognition. It is so rewarding to know that we not only affect the lives of veterans and their families but also have an impact on the city where we live. Go Auxiliary!!!!

Membership has been coming in great! We have 156 members paid for 2020 - only about 90 to go to make goal. Our dues are still $30 per Senior Member and $10 per Junior Member (under 18). Please send your check or money order, payable to Disney-Bell Unit #66, to the Post at 9605 Old Laurel Bowie Road; Bowie, MD 20720-3255 to my attention soon, and your card will be sent shortly thereafter. You can also drop off your dues at the Post to the Bartender who will give you a receipt and forward them to me - come on down and enjoy a chilled favorite beverage! Of course, you can still pay online at alaforveterans.org, and a card will be sent directly from Na-tional. You will need your Membership Number (this is located on your membership card). In ad-dition to renewing your dues online, you can read the valuable information about our programs, benefits, and request any information you may have an interest in pursuing once you have estab-lished a "Member Sign-in". Don't forget, pay your dues by Veterans Day and be an Early Bird for 2020 -- the Early Bird dinner (on November 16th) is FREE to members who pay by November 11th! Remember, if your dues are not paid by December 31, 2019 you are delinquent and will not be served your favorite bever-age and your name will be purged from the daily and weekly drawings.
