Milchen, 85, for- merly of Amherst and Nashua, NH and Lexington, MA, died on July 27, 2009 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Mr. Milchen was born on June 15, 1924 in Boston, MA. He was the son of Harry and Frances Milchen. He graduated from the Boston Latin School, University of Pennsylvania, and the Wharton School of Busi- ness. He was a 1st Lt. during World War II and a navigator on B17’s. He was National Accounts Manager for Sharp Industries and later an In- dependent Rep for the Food Service Industry. Al enjoyed tennis, music and woodworking. Family mem- bers include his wife, Jane (Steele) Gallagher Milchen of Amherst, NH; a son, Jeffrey Milchen and his wife, Jennifer of Bozeman, Mon- tana; a stepson, Stephen Gal- lagher and his wife, Sarah of Fairfax, VA; a stepdaughter, Laurie Gallagh- er Holder and her husband, Rick Holder of Amherst, NH; seven grand- children, Bai- ley Hutchinson and her hus- band, Jeremy of Greenfield, NH, Chris, McKin- ley and JoJo Curro, all of Amherst, NH, Charles, Carrie and Douglass Gallagher, all of VA; two great grandchildren, Logan and Avery Hutchinson of Green- field, NH. Campers were encouraged to bring in and use recycled products to design robots for the weekly camp competition. e teen groups also created a recy- cled percussion band and performed for the whole camp at the end of the week. Teen campers brainstormed ideas at camp and used recycled items such as milk cartons, card- board boxes, and trash bins to put together a “green” performance. “It’s good to recycle and you can make cool things like robots and music,” stated second-grader Emily Garib. “You don’t have to just make music with instruments; you can make it with cans and other recy- clables.” “I learned that even though it isn’t Earth Day or any kind of special clean-up day, we can still pick up trash,” stated Nicole Barrett, a sec- ond-grade camper. “Don’t pass it up, pick it up!” MANCHESTER — Creativity will flow in different forms at the Cur- rier Museum of Art as poetry joins with art. On ursday, September 3, from 5:30 to 7:30pm, the Currier is hosting an Open Mic Night featur- ing New Hampshire’s Poetry Slam team fresh off their participation in the National Poetry Slam. A poetry slam combines poetry and perfor- mance and on this evening the NH Poetry Slam Team will share their creative expression of language and performance with museum visitors. Visitors are invited to join in on the slam and share their own poem. is special First ursday event features a social hour from 5:30- 6:30pm; a 15-minute Talk ‘Poet- ry and Art’ at 6pm; the NH Poetry Slam team from 6:30-7pm; and an Open Mic period from 7-7:30pm. is evening is free with museum admission: $10 for adult non-mem- bers, $9 for seniors (65 and older), $8 for students (with student ID), free for children 17 and under, and free for members. MILFORD – e youth members of the Boys & Girls Club of Souhe- gan Valley raised over $400 for the SHARE Organization through a “Kiss A Python” fundraiser. e Boys & Girls Club of Souhegan Val- ley partnered with the Wadleigh Memorial Library to support the Li- brary’s Read to Feed summer read- ing programs. e fundraiser al- lowed campers to place money in camp counselors’ jars, and the coun- selor who raised the most money had to kiss a python on stage on July 15th. e teen group that donated the most money was able to visit and tour the SHARE site in Milford to understand the operation of the organization and how their dona- tion helped. “We got to take a tour and learn about the people who use SHARE and how everything works there,” stated sixth grader Jared Blanc who donated $55 of his own money to the fundraiser. “I think SHARE is a great program because it helps peo- ple who need it the most.” Obituaries
