Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Two weeks ago, a number of us attended the Diocesan Synod in San Angelo, Texas. There were three bishops from other dioceses that shared what they are doing regarding discipleship and church planting. All were fantastic teachers and leaders, and inspiring to listen to. Hey! Welcome back! We are continuing on from where we left off last time; choosing… …and so it was from the beginning. Let’s walk with Adam and Eve in their “Garden”. Before eating from the forbidden tree, the couple enjoyed eating fruit from the other trees God planted in the “Garden”. Genesis 2:8 records it like this, “The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed. And out of the ground the LORD God made every tree grow that is pleasant to the sight and good for food”. I imagine the Garden being more lush and beautiful than Hawaii, more pristine and majestic than the land Sweden rests on; everything in bloom with full array of color displaying the amazing creation. The grass was green, the rivers were full and teaming with life. Animals of every sort walking around freely, being under the watch-ful eye of God’s two caretakers. Adam and Eve themselves walked around naked and were not ashamed. There was no reason to be ashamed they lived in the perfect place; one with their Creator, just as God had created them to be. Until alas, there was in this amazing

landscaped life, a tree that was not to be eaten from and a crafty serpent with ill intent. Adam and Eve walked with God and heard His voice. They received from Him life. They heard His Word and knew it. Then suddenly another voice makes its way

to the ears of Eve, bringing only a suggestion of doubting God and His goodness. Ahhhggg! When we read this story aren’t we rooting for Eve? Even though we know the end, don’t we find ourselves saying, “Don’t believe him Eve, the serpent is lying to you!”? The serpent convinces Eve she and Adam were lacking and the only way to make up for it was to do the very thing God told them not to do, to eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The truth was, they were not lacking in anything. But they believed the lie and were influenced by the serpents’ deception and chose to act on it. Oh! and sadly this choice led them out of their perfect home and into the world to work the land. My choices had led me to the same place, out of perfect fel-lowship with God and exhausted from endless work. My gar-den, was filled with scary plants that I had to work tirelessly to get rid of only to find them growing back and more so! But all of that ended when I chose God above all else. Even fear had to leave when I chose Him. Another declaration says, “Jesus’ blood paid for everything”. This unthinkable event in all time, gives us the invitation to choose God. Once we say yes to Jesus, we are born again, a new creature, walking in new life. Wow! We no longer have a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind. In fact, we have the mind of Christ. Jesus says He is the way, the truth

and the life…it’s like we’re going back into the garden. “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galations 2:20 Such good news! And, we are not left alone with our old self to face the endless decisions we must make. “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of every-thing I have said to you.” John 14:26 Making good choices takes practice. Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Spending time in God’s word will help you recognize His voice. Praising and worshipping God will help you keep your eyes, devotion and focus on Him. Seeking Him and develop-ing a conversation with Him, asking Him questions and for understanding and for wisdom will lead you straight to Jesus’ lap. This is where we found Mary. And even though her sister Martha com-plained about her to Jesus, for not helping, Jesus answers, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 Children’s Ministry has a heart to empower children in mak-ing good choices by creating an environment that gives them lots of opportunity to make them. We want our children to grow into people who know who they are and Who’s they are and Who’s voice to listen to. If you are interested in learning more about this subject, I highly recommend diving into the book by Danny Silk, “Loving Our Kids On Purpose”. This teaching of wisdom and insight was first introduced to us by Austin and Rachel Degenhart as they led classes on Sunday mornings. Contact me if you are interested in this and/or other resources and/or search in our church library, for books to check out. Rebecca GuerinChildren’s Ministry Director

OCTOBER 2017- THE ANCHOR-PAGE 4

Hello St. Clement! Our summer has officially ended and we are well into our new semester. This summer was incredible! We had awe-some encounters with the Lord and are excited to see what is coming this semester. Thank you so much for your continu-ous intercession for our group!! This semester we are trying to teach more about rela-tionships and living a life that is pleasing to the Lord. For the past few weeks, we have been talking about what reconcilia-tion and forgiveness looks like in a real life application context for our students. These teachings and topics are gearing us up for our annual Fall Retreat in October (13th-15th). During this retreat we will be discussing the Fruits of the Spirit and how these fruits come from right relationship with the Lord. Our Fall Retreat has always been an incredible time for us to bond and grow together as a group and for our students to encounter the Lord. As mentioned beforehand, this retreat will be the second weekend in October, the 13th-15th. It is opened to all Jr. + Sr. High students and is only $35. Money is NEVER a reason to not come to an event, so if you need a scholarship, let us know! We want to take care of you and get you to as many events as we can.

Coming up, we have the Onething conference we attend in December. This conference is in Kansas City, MO and is open only to 9th-12th graders as it is a huge conference. It will cost $60 plus money for lunch/dinner throughout the conference. More info on this event in the upcoming months! Lastly, the pictures that you are seeing on around our article, are from a night that we gutted and got inside of teddy bears and fought each other with foam noodles. It was a BLAST and we have an incredible time. For more fun times like the ones pictured please come to youth group Wednes-day nights 6-8 pm in the YAC (620 Yandell). We would love to get to know you guys and maybe hit you with foam noodles if you’re okay with that. Blessings, Kristina Cossel, Youth Director
