The Rosetta Stone• In 1799 Napoleons army
found a stone that had three forms of writing on it, Greek, Demotic, and Hieroglyphic.
• In the beginning of the nineteenth century Jean-Francois Champollion was able to translate the stone.
• This stone is now called “The Rosetta Stone” named after the place in which it was found.
• The Rosetta Stone helped historians finally decipher hieroglyphics. They are now able to read what is written on tombs, and inside the Pyramids and temples.
