Angel Falls (Spanish: Salto Ángel; Pemonlanguage: Kerepakupai Vená, meaning"waterfall of the deepest place", orParakupá Vená, meaning "the fall from thehighest point", is a waterfall in Venezuela.

It is the world's highest waterfall, with aheight of 979 m (3,212 ft) and a plunge of807 m (2,648 ft). The waterfall drops overthe edge of the Auyantepui mountain inthe Canaima National Park(Spanish:Parque Nacional Canaima), a UNESCOWorld Heritage site in the Gran Sabanaregion of Bolívar State. The height figure979 m (3,212 ft) mostly consists of themain fall but also includes about 400 m(0.25 mi) of sloped cascades and rapidsbelow the drop and a 30-meter (98 ft) highfall downstream of the talus rapids.



Angel Falls is locatedin the Guayanahighlands, and it is

just one of the five

great adventureregions in Venezuela.

The water comes in afree fall of 979 meters

from the Churum riverhovering of the edgeof the "Auyantepuy"Table mountain, thisthe largest Tepuy

(table mountain) inCanaima Venezuela.This height makes itthe highest waterfallin the world.



Angel Falls is 15 times higher than Niagara Falls with its total of 56meters.

This fall is named for Jimmy Angel,an adventurous pilot from Missouri,United States, who flew to the aircircus Lindberg. James CrawfordAngel (Jimmy Angel) is a modernlegend. He saw the waterfall for thefirst time in 1933 with his partnerwhile searching for thelegendary McCracken River of Gold,or the Golden City.

James returned again in 1937with his wife and his friendGustavo Henry Gardener where

they had an emergency landingon top of the Auyantepuy. Theaircraft was able to reach safelyto the top of the Tepuy andstayed there for 33 years until it

was taken down by a helicopter



Jimmy Angel and his three companions managed to descend from

Tepuy and return to the civilization walking through the jungle for 11days.

Angel's plane is currently in the Aviation Museum in Maracay, and todayon top of the Auyantepuy you will find a replica of Jimmys airplane.

Canaima National Park is located in the south west of Venezuela,

south of the Orinoco River in the municipality Gran Sabana of BolivarState, was declared a national park on 12 June 1962 by the NationalExecutive, in order to protect its attractions and conserve virgin forthe rest of the world.

The park has 3 million hectares, making it the second largestrotected area Venezuela and sixth in the world.



The park is divided into twoparts: West and East.

The western part is simplycalled Canaima and it can bereached by flights fromCaracas, Margarita, PuertoOrdaz, Ciudad Bolivar and

Santa Elena.
