Former Student News

Angel Goble, former student at the Angmering School has started a 14 week apprenticeship at The British Racing School. At the end of the apprenticeship she will be attached to one of the many reputable racing yards in the UK. Well done Angel for this placement and thank you to Mr Bowles, our Careers Manager, for his advice and guidance helping Angel with her application and for arranging work experience at weekends with local racehorse trainer, William Knight.

Jessie Brown’s 10 Mile Charity Swim

Jessie Brown 11LN swims for Sussex and has decided to embark on a 10 mile swim at Littlehampton Swimming Centre on Saturday 28th November to raise vital funds for The Sussex Snowdrop Trust. That's 644 lengths! It will take up to six hours to complete. The Snowdrop Trust is a Sussex-based charity that supports children aged between 0-18 who have life threatening or terminal illnesses. It helps to provide home-based care for the children through Snowdrop nurses. The Trust also provides financial support to families who use their services to help with suitable equipment, travel costs and fun days out. Her goal is to raise £400 and she has set up a Justgiving page (details below) to help her reach her target. All donations welcome. FOR MORE INFO: facebook page: Jess’ charity swim www.thesussexsnowdroptrust.com justgiving page: http://www.justgiving.com/Jessica-Brown25

Alivia Burford 7MB is going to swim 5 miles (roughly 330 lengths) to raise money for children in need. Well done and good luck Alivia. If you would like to donate to support Alivia her justgiving page is https://www.justgiving.com/Emma-Burford2/

RAINBOW THEATRE

The Year 7s enjoyed welcoming the Rainbow Theatre into school. Chloe Devlin 7WD said “I think this was good because it reflected on all the Greek myths and everyone took part. There was a great range of different myths and the way they performed was utterly outstanding! They used good expressions and they put feelings into it as well. The performance was very eccentric and I think school would love to have another performance from them. They put a lot of effort into it. They were all very enthusiastic.”

A wonderful experience for the students.

THE HIDDEN LEGACY

A reminder our school timetabler, Graham Minett, had his debut novel, The Hidden Legacy, published as an eBook yesterday (November 5th).

If you would like to discover more, Graham can be followed on Twitter (@grahamminett511) and Facebook (grahamminettauthor) and you can learn more about the book on Amazon.

Artwork of the Week # 3

Artwork of the Week #3 – The art teachers at Angmering are always sharing inspirational artwork made all over the world that we see online and in the news. We thought it would be a great idea to share these images with you and would love it if you could discuss them during START. Let your art teacher know if you see something amazing that you would like to share and we’ll pop it in the bulletin.

This week the Art department has selected a series of photographs by Tom Hussey. Each im-age shows an elderly person looking at a reflection of their younger self. Hussey was in-spired by a WW2 veteran who said, “I can’t believe I’m going to be 80”. I feel like I just came back from the war. I look in the mirror and see this old guy.” Are there any old photo-graphs that you could take a look at with family or friends?

Sport Update

Successful few weeks for the Y8 Football team

The last 2 weeks have seen us play Worthing High and Chatsmore in the league and Priory

School in the County Cup.

First up was Worthing High. A battle from start to finish with the boys coming away with a

well deserved draw following a late goal from Ben Bradford.

Next up were Chatsmore who looked like they were going to struggle with the intensity the

boys showed from the start. Eventually, with a fantastic performance from Bili Heasman,

Angmering came away victorious with an 8 – 0 win.

Finally on a wet and windy afternoon in Lewes the team came up against the Priory School in

the second round of the county cup. A strong performance from all players helped us to

come away with a 6 – 1 victory. Holy Trinity or Uckfield await in the next round.

Well done boys

Team: Luke Cooper, Alfie Kavallares, Jack Knight,

Charlie Robinson, Jack McCarthy, Noah Davies, Will Wray, Monrouw Hector, Juliano Fushini,

Will Breden, Bili Heasman, Harry Rickman Open, Ben Bradford, Owen Zarins, Taylor Adams,

Ashley Cottom and Dan Welton

On Thursday 22nd October the U12 girls made their debut for the school in the cup and

unfortunately they lost 11-0, however the girls had good fun and enjoyed their first

game. We are proud of the girls who tried their best and put everything into the game.

Exciting times and projects are coming in the near future for the team so keep an eye on

our social media for updates.

Angmering Year 7 football had mixed fortunes this week as

they battled hard. They came away with a 3-1 loss away from

home at Worthing High but demonstrated some fantastic

bounce back ability as they saw off Goring based Chatsmore

with a convincing 6-0 win at home two days later.

In a game played on an oversized pitch Angmering dominat-

ed throughout periods of the game with some neat football,

however it was a frustrating day at the office despite a goal

from Anthony Stacey as Angmering returned home empty

handed.

The pendulum swung two days later, as Angmering produced

some of their best counter attacking football as 3 double

braces from the influential Anthony Stacey, debutant Alfie

Young and centre back Danny Howick meant that Angmering

took all the points and will now look to progress. Angmering

started the better of the sides and broke the deadlock early

on after some creative play from Captain Joe Alman, at the interval Angmering led 1-0 as the visi-

tors worked hard to keep the scoreline down.

In the second half Angmering put on a 5 STAR stellar performance as Anthony Stacey started the

party to make it 2-0 early on and a thunderbolt from Danny Howick put the home time 3-0 up only

for the goals to start coming in thick and fast as Alfie Young doubled his tally for the game,

Howick then demonstrated his heading abilities with a great header from a Joe Alman corner and

Anthony Stacey closed the game out with a neat finish. Overall a good day after a frustrating game

against Worthing no more than 48 hours before, Angmering played well throughout the game and

demonstrated some fantastic intricate passing as they cut through the Chatsmore defence. MOM

was awarded to Jakob Walsh for a fantastic performance in goal in which Angmering kept their

first clean sheet of the campaign and debutant Alfie Young for his never say die attitude and hard

work up top.

TEAM: Walsh, Harris, Howick, Rossin, Cartwithen, Nelsenat, Alman, Stacey, Thomas, Pritchard,

Young, Rye.

In a game which started slow however denying their opponents a basket in the opening quarter,

Angmering Year 11 were able to comfortably win 97-30 against East Grinstead based school

Sackville.

Led by Captain Louis Simon (32 points) and ably supported by Luke Elder (27) & Harrison Sims

(24) Angmering demonstrated some fantastic team basketball, limiting their opponents to 10 first

half points as they lead 36 – 10 at the interval however it was the second half performance in

which Angmering raised their game and turned on the style as they won the 2nd

half 61-20 to

finish worthy winners.

In the a fast paced game all 6 of Angmering players contributed to the scoring as Angmering

finished off the game with 6 successful 3 pointers, in which a high scoring 41 points in the 4th

quarter meant Angmering finished 97-30 winners.

The LNC Duke of Edinburgh's Award group in Year 12 as part of their Volunteering/fundraising

section took part in the Countryfile's Ramble on October 10th and 11th.

As a group, the students planned a number of walks (encouraged staff to get involved sharing the

details with staff) and walked a total of 20 miles. Through sponsorship the group raised £100 for

Children in Need. Congratulations to the students and thanks to the parents who supported the

students' efforts. Well done Grace, Alice, Joshua, Emma, Connor and Ben.

The nearly new uniform shop is open this Saturday 7 November at the school from 10 – 11am. Lost property will be available to view at this time.

CAN YOU HELP WSCC WITH THEIR TRAVEL SURVEY?

West Sussex County Council would like young people to take part in an online survey to help them shape young people’s travel in future years. Survey topics include: 3in1 cards, bus journeys, bus fares and other transport initia-tives. Parents and carers you can complete the survey on behalf of your child, and can com-plete a separate survey for more than one child if you wish. The survey is open to everyone – young people do not need to have a 3in1 card to take part. Participants can also enter a prize draw and win a £50 Argos voucher once they have completed the survey. The closing date for the survey is Friday, November 20. The more people who take part, the greater under-standing we will have about travel behaviour and need. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YLV3BTZ

Gold Stars Of The Week

Congratulations to this week’s Gold Stars of the Week: Gold Stars of the week is a reward system where teachers nominate students for working consistently at Gold standard which is above and beyond expectations. Students then have the opportunity to meet with the Headship team to discuss

their achievements and work.

The students are rewarded with 25 credits and a well done certificate to take home to share their success with parents/guardians. We feel this is an excellent reward system for the students to share their success with the Headship team.

Congratulations to our

Last weeks solution:

A Drink of Water

ruddy

adjective (of a person's face) having a healthy red colour. "a cheerful pipe-smoking man of ruddy complexion" BRITISHinformal used as a euphemism for ‘bloody’ "young people today, they're a ruddy shower" Etymology: In Old English, there were two related words meaning "red": rēad and rudu. Rēad evolved into our present-day red. Rudu evolved into rud (a word now encountered only in dialect or archaic usage) and ruddy. Most often, ruddy is applied to the face when it has the red glow of good health or is red from a suffusion of blood from exercise or excitement. It is also used in the names of some birds, such as the American ruddy duck. In British English, ruddy is also used as a colourful euphemism for the sometimes vulgar intensive bloody, as English writer Sir Kingsley Amis illustrates in The Riverside Villas Murder: "Ruddy marvellous, the way these coppers' minds work.... I take a swing at Chris Inman in public means I probably done him in."

Can you solve this week’s problem ?

Wedding Morning

On the morning of the 9th of November 2015, Sam told Pat "I

am getting married today, aged 30."

From this information, can Pat

correctly deduce which year Sam was born in?

A bottle contains 750ml of mineral

water. Rachel drinks 50 more than

Ross, and the two friends finish the

bottle between them. How much does Rachel drink?

Foreign translations: French: rouge German: rot Spanish: rubicundo Russian: румяный

If Rachel drinks 50 more than Ross, then she

drinks 32 times as much. Therefore, 52 times the

amount Ross drinks is the whole bottle. This means

Ross drinks 25 of the bottle.

This means Rachel drinks 35 of the 750ml, which is 35×750ml=450ml

Did you know that Ofsted have a website, “Parent View” which gives parents the chance to tell them what you think about your child’s school. It will ask you for your opinion on 12 aspects of your child’s school, from the quality of teaching, to dealing with bullying and poor behaviour. Ofsted will use the information you provide when making decisions about which schools to inspect, and when. We would really appreciate you taking the time to look at this website and complete the survey. http://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/
