Special Olympics We’re gearing up for another “Pin Crushing” bowling season. In order to participate in the

bowling competition for Special Olympics, you must bowl a minimum of 15 games and have a

valid Special Olympic NJ Participation Form on file. Come join our Tuesday bowlers for an to

be apart of this special program! To learn more about Special Olympics, please contact Col-

Donations Needed Donations are always greatly appreciated, we benefit from donations of tickets to shows or

sporting events, board games, cook books, crafts, word search books, coloring books, crayons,

karaoke CDs, DVDs, playing cards, puzzles, kitchen items like aprons, bake wear, pots and

pans, and seasonal decorations.

Harvest Ball 2018

Harvest Ball 2018 will be held on Friday, October 26 from 5:30-8:30pm at it’s *new* loca-

tion, the Oasis Ballroom at The Hilton Garden Inn located at 304 Route 22 West in Springfield.

Registration is open from now through October 1, 2018. See page 6 to register and for more

details.

Other Available Programs The Family Support Department at The Arc of Union County doesn’t only provide Respite through Recreation

Programs. They also offer After Work Respite running Monday through Friday, Saturday Respite which runs

twice monthly, a Community Enrichment Program (Hotel Respite) and a Community Based Supports Pro-

In order to register for our respite services:

1. If you are new to respite programs or inquiring about After Work, Hotel Respite, or Saturday Respite at The Arc of

Union County, please call Colleen Palmela, Asst. Director of Family Support to set up an intake for registration. For all Arc of Union County Residential participants and those who have participated in these services before, please proceed

with registration.

2. Please fill out the registration form on pages 9-10.You need to make sure the form is filled out completely and each program

you wish to attend is marked off.(For those who are interested in bowling, please be sure to select the transportation op-

tion you need.) Be sure to circle which method of payment you will be using (self pay, Supports, Self Directed, RLC). With-

out the registration form on file, an individual will not be permitted to participate in any program. These forms must be sent in

each time a quarterly bulletin is released. If the Assistant Director-Family Support does not receive a registration form,

then an individual will NOT be signed up for any program, no exceptions.

You will not be registered for a program until payment is received for those individuals who are self-paying, or until an

ISP/SDR are received for those individuals who are coming through their Supports/RLC budgets.

3. If you intend on registering for a program, you may do so up to three days in advance for all programs except bowling. Those

who are interested in bowling MUST register no later than 2 weeks before the program start date.

Self-Pay Registration: Send back registration form with check or money order payable to The Arc of Union County. For those who live in and of the

Arc of Union County residences or those who wish to pay cash, you may do so at the Arc Family Center, please call Colleen Pal-

mela, Asst. Director of Family Support to make arrangements.

Supports Registration:

In order for you to register using your Supports budget, you must contact your Support Coordinator to have the services added to

your ISP. The units for each program are indicated in this bulletin and on the registration sheet. We encourage your Support Coor-

dinator to contact us with any questions they may have. We are glad to help them with the registration process. It is your responsi-

bility to make sure your Support Coordinator sends an ISP/SDR to register for your selected programs. As a reminder, registration

for an activity is not guaranteed, until the ISP/SDR has been received at The Arc of Union County, in addition to the registration

form.

RLC/Self-Directed

All activities must be approved through your ISP. You must contact your Support Coordinator to have the program added to your

ISP. The rate for these respite programs should be reflective of Medicaid rates ($19.12/hr). As a reminder, registration for an activ-

ity is not guaranteed, until the ISP has been received at The Arc of Union County, in addition to the registration form.

Cancellations If fewer than the minimum participants register for a program or there is inclement weather, an activity may be

cancelled.

For individuals who Self Pay, a credit slip will be issued to be used during the current calendar or for future cal-

endars, within the recreation calendar year. The Recreation calendar year runs from July-June.

For individuals who come through the Supports Program, Self-Directed, or RLC, you may only be able to re-

ceive credit for as long as the service authorization is active.

If you cannot attend any program, you must call Colleen within 48 hours of a scheduled program. If tickets

were purchased for an event, the cost will not be refunded.

Office Hours The Recreation Office hours are 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Hours may vary

depending on programs. If you’re planning on visiting the Family Support Office, please call before you come to

make sure someone is available to help you. The office phone number is 908-232-0037.

Change of Address or Phone If you have moved or changed your phone number, please let us know. It is important that the Recreation Office is

kept up-to-date in order to provide you with the best possible service.

Transportation Not all programs offer transportation. For those that do, seating is limited, and therefore cannot be guaranteed. It is

important to have your registration in on time, along with approved form of payment, you will not be registered for

a program until an approved form of payment has been issued.

No Shows/Lateness No shows at programs jeopardize your participation in future programs. No shows are not eligible for credit. Re-

peated no-shows will be suspended from future programs. Repeated lateness to and from program can also result

in suspension from future programs.

Important Reminders

Public Transportation

Due to the unpredictable pick up and drop off times of public transportations services like Access Link, we

strongly urge against using the services as a way to attend programs. Our program staff are only available the

hours of program and an early drop off/late pick up can result in insufficient coverage, in addition to missing

valuable program time.

Annual PIF Update Upon registering for a recreation program you will receive a PIF update form. Please make sure that it is filled

out in it’s entirety. This form helps us know our participants and support them in the event of an emergency. Upon registering for a recreation program you will receive a PIF update form. Please make sure that it is filled
