1 The ART Gallery Osoyoos GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR DISPLAY The Art Gallery Osoyoos strives to maintain a quality standard, and the integrity of both the Gallery and the individual artists. Should a purchaser or gallery viewer be able to substantiate a claim that an art article is not an original work of the artist; the claim would undermine the above objectives and the reputation of both the Gallery and the individual artist. Therefore, articles which are copies of the work of another artist, or those produced during a workshop, are not acceptable for display or sale at our Gallery. We rely largely on an honour system, but the Gallery Committee has the right to reject articles which can be verified as being in contravention of the above principles and/or copyright laws. In addition, appointed representatives of the gallery can reject items that do not meet the gallery guidelines below. PAINTINGS 1. Corners of frames must meet (no gaps) and they must not be scratched, gouged or chipped. 2. Frames must be properly prepared and sturdy enough to hang safely. 3. All paintings must be wired on the back for hanging, no matter what size and must not show above the top of the frame. To ensure proper and secure hanging of works on the Art Gallery hanging system, all hanging wire must be attached approximately 1/3 from the top of the frame and pulled taut across the painting so it will hang closer to the wall. A D-ring must be used to attach the wire. Please refer to the photo below for D-ring examples and appropriate mounting . 4. Do not secure backings onto the frames with any kind of tape. 5. Watercolours under glass in metal frames must have the backing secured within the frame with "spring bugs" or "frogs" so neither glass nor matting can shift. 6. All mats and back mats or boards must be acid free, of a neutral colour, clean and professionally cut. 7. Clip Frames - Frameless glass with clips or clip frames of any type will not be accepted. 8. Unframed paintings on gallery wrap canvas must have the staples on the back, not on the sides. Sides must be painted either as a continuation of the image or a neutral colour and must be a minimum of 1/2 inch in depth. POTTERY/SCULPTURE 1. Must be smooth on the bottom with no sharp edges. 2. Must not have any cracks. 3. Must Indicate on the Reference Sheet if the item is nonfunctional. All functional ware must be food safe. 4. Fountains must be in working order with typed and laminated operating instructions included. 5. Items must be sturdy and free standing. 6. Hanging items must be secure to hold weight. JEWELLERY 1 All findings and finishing must be professional looking. 2 Items must not have sharp edges that can catch on or prick customers fingers.

The ART Gallery Osoyoos GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR DISPLAY

The Art Gallery Osoyoos strives to maintain a quality standard, and the integrity of both the Gallery and the individual artists. PAINTINGS

of the frame. To ensure proper and secure hanging of works on the Art Gallery hanging system, all hanging wire must be attached approximately 1/3 from the top of the frame and pulled taut across the painting so it will hang closer to the wall. CARDS

1 Must be clean and presented in plastic envelopes. Do not use plastic wrap. 2 The plastic envelope must be sealed (prevents soiling from handling). 3 If the card has a "greeting" inside, show message on back. 4 Cards are the only exception to "original art work only." 5 Cards may be prints as well as originals.

PRINTS 1 Wall hung prints must be traditional print work only (e.g. wood cuts, lithographs, etchings, etc.) and must

be the original. 2 No laser copies or photocopies of paintings or print work will be accepted. 3 Giclée prints to be accepted at Gallery's discretion.

SUMMER/WINTER GALLERY MARKET GUIDELINES FOR DISPLAY

1 Paintings and all other wall art must maintain a minimum three-inch space between each item, where applicable.

2 Stalls must avoid infringing on the six-inch clearance established by the gallery between each stall at the time of laying out the stalls.

3 Do not overcrowd displays. 4 Participants are responsible for regularly maintaining their display. This includes: dusting, tidying and

refilling as items sell. MISCELLANEOUS

1 Shows may, at the Curator’s discretion, include matted, unframed paintings, prints and/or photographs. These must be original works of art conceived and made by the creator. They cannot be copies of any images by other makers or copies of images found on the internet or from print media. Prints must be made using printmaking techniques (e.g. wood cuts, lithographs, etchings, etc.) and cannot be a reproduction of a maker’s painting. Prints must be numbered if they are part of a series. All works must be sealed in cellophane sleeves. (Reproductions of original works may be accepted under certain circumstances at the discretion of the Curator.)

2 TAGO does not accept ‘commercial’ works prepared by a ‘company/business’ that charges to imprint images of an artist’s original work on such items as clothing, scarves, coffee mugs, handbags, jewelry, etc.

3 TAGO does accept ‘original’ works of art created in a variety of media including traditional paintings, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, fibre art, clothing, quilting, etc.

4 Under certain circumstances exceptions to these guidelines may be made at the discretion of the Curator. Update/revision August 2020
