Each person has hobbies and one of mine is to create presentations :)

So, Having more free time on my hands than usual during my summer vacations, I set out to create a presentation about my favorite subject...

Page 5: The art of Powerpoint

Coming to think of it, it's very easy to create a presentation.

Page 6: The art of Powerpoint

However it's really difficult to create a presentation that will keep your audience engaged,

without making it yawn their jaws off till the slides run out.

SO, LET’S SEE

1Plan your presentationbeforehand

Think about what point you want to make before starting to dump information into a powerpoint file. It's better to create a word file with what you want to say, divide your presentation in sections and then get started. This will certainly keep things to the point while simultaneously saving you a bit of effort later on.

2Kill bullet points

2Try to create slides with small amounts of text, as listeners are generally not inclined to follow a massive presentation and learn it by heart. However, they will easily remember quotes or short sentences.

33 Use photos

3No photos from Google though. Either buy stock photos or use freely provided ones in good quality. A nice picture always gives a bit of extra flair to any presentation. However, do not forget that in case that you do use free photos you have to give credit to their creator. As the saying goes, a picture = 1000 words!

4Differentiation is everything

Page 16: The art of Powerpoint

4You surely have seen lots of presentations adorned with amazing pictures. Nonetheless, this doesn't necessarily mean that all of them are good, or that they can keep the audience engaged. This is mainly because each presentation must come with a story and the proper structure.

Think about jokes for example. Each joke has a very specific structure that helps expand the storyline.

Differentiation is everything

5Keep your audience at the edge of their seats

5Try to structure your presentation in a way that will keep your audience engaged from the beginning till the end. Start by presenting the subject of your presentation, analyse it and expand it gradually and keep some of the best bits for the end.

6 Rehearse it

6No matter how well you think you know your presentation, rehearsing it will help you put things in the right order and get confident. It's almost imperative that you learn at least the main points by heart. Try not to leave it last minute if you want to make the impression you intended to from the beginning.

REHEARSE IT

7Use examples and show some stats

Page 22: The art of Powerpoint

7Always try to use examples. It's much easier for your audience to understand what you want to say through a well placed example and properly presented statistical data, than through tons of theory. In case you present case studies from previous projects, try to pick the ones you know you can explain and analyse best.

8Look into the eyes of your audience

8Visit the venue earlier than the time of your presentation to feel more comfortable with the space. In case of conference, attend all previous presentations so as to understand the type of the audience and how it reacts.
