Jesus Is our role Model

On this day, we commemorate another mystery of our faith: our Risen Lord goes back to Heaven where he waits for each one of us. Jesus is our role model in everything. We should look up to Him to learn how to live our lives.

We live in a society (and this includes the way many think even inside the Church) where we "ascend" by being successful, powerful, wealthy, strong, and independent, when we learn to "step over others’ heads". Nevertheless, no one ever ascended higher, nor to a better place, than Our Lord Jesus Christ. What did He do to ascend? He first humbled himself; he became our servant and offered His life for us. Instead of claiming his status of true God, King, and Creator, he became one like us, but without sin.

In the history of mankind, we have seen how the worldly way to be "on the top of the world" is by pride, status, or fame. Authorities (politicians, pastors, law enforcement, etc.) impose their "authority" which makes them feel like their authority makes them better than others. Jesus says that all authority has been given to Him, and if any human has any kind of authority, it is a participation in His, and it is to be used to serve Him and others. We are not to be "decision makers" but servants for the good of all. The Lord taught us to take not the best, but the least place at table, to wash others' feet, to be close to those who suffer most.

If we truly want to be glorified with Him, we first have to follow Him in being truly humble (not only in appearance like the Pharisees). Let the Lord be glorified in us in the way he wishes. Blessings.

Fr. Estanislao Mikalonis, Parochial Vicar

InstItute For leadershIP In MInIstry (IlM)The Institute for Leadership in Ministry is a 3-year course of study for lay persons. The ILM provides training and faith formation for lay leaders in the Church. The theological base for this program is found in the documents of the Second Vatican Council. Responding to their baptismal call, graduates return to their parish to serve in various leadership roles in Liturgy, Catechetics, Social Justice, Pastoral Care, as well as many others. We plan to continue sending lay persons to the Institute for Leadership in Ministry. If you feel called to explore this possibility, we are looking for a few qualified candidates for the new ILM academic year which begins in the fall. Please contact Fr. Matt ([email protected]) for more information.
