The Assump!on of the Blessed Virgin Mary They are courageous, wise women who ground us, focus us, and inspire us. They are the good mothers who walk with us and light our way. They teach us life lessons and help us heal and navigate through challenges and difficul-"es. We need people to point the way. Some"mes, these wise ladies are not our biological mothers but women in our lives, who through their strong and faithful presence, anchor us and remind us that we are loved. We need these women. Human beings do their best when they have cheerleaders in their lives. They show us that even when facing despair there is always a brighter tomorrow. Jesus needed his mother. She had to be that faithful anchor, that guiding presence, in his life. Jesus needed to be affirmed and encouraged just like any other human being and Mary had to be there, right by his side, doing pre-cisely that. Even when her heart was pierced as he was nailed to a tree, she did not give up hope. Most certainly, she con"nued to wait, watch, hope, and love un"l he took his final breath. That’s what mothers do. Even when their heart breaks, they persevere. Today, our Blessed Mother is our cheerleader once again. Taken up to heaven in body and soul, she points to and directs us toward our final des"ny. Life eternal waits! Any disappointment, fear, or anxiety can be set aside as she gently reassures us of God’s love and promise. Always a mother filled with grace and hope, she calls us to reaffirm our faith in God and in the gi%s we have each been given. We can persevere and do what we need to do to live life well, with faith, hope, and love as our guiding lights. Knowing who we are and who we will one day become helps us to be&er chart the course and direc"on of our earthly lives. Looking to the example of our Blessed Moth-er, we receive the assurance we need. ©LPi

La Asunción de la San"sima Virgen María Toda la Liturgia de hoy está llena de un profundo sen"do de alegría. La an'fona de entrada es un ejemplo de ello: “Alegrémonos todos en el Señor y alabemos al Hijo de Dios junto con los ángeles, al celebrar hoy la Asun-ción al cielo de nuestra Madre la Virgen María”. A este ambiente de gozo se unen las tres lecturas. El Apocalipsis nos describe, a vivos colores, la misteriosa visión de la mujer y el dragón. La Primera carta a los Corin"os afirma la resurrección de los muertos y nuestra esperanza de resucitar. El Evangelio de San Lucas nos llena de gozo al escuchar la apertura y confianza de María a los planes de Dios en ella. El Papa Francisco agrega estos puntos de reflexión con referencia a esta Solemnidad: “La Iglesia hoy nos invita a contemplar este misterio. Este nos muestra que Dios quiere salvar al hombre por completo, alma y cuerpo. --- La asunción de María, criatura humana, nos da la confirmación de nuestro des"no glorioso. --- Nuestro cuerpo, transfigurado, estará allí. Esto --- la resurrección de la carne --- es un elemento propio de la revelación cris"ana, una piedra angular de nuestra fe” (8/15/2018). Mientras llega este día de ver a Dios cara a cara, me uno a María y proclamo la grandeza del Todopoderoso: “Proclama mi alma la grandeza del Señor, y mi espíritu se alegra en Dios mi Salvador, porque se fijó en su humilde esclava, y desde ahora todas las generaciones me llamaran feliz” (Lucas 1:46-47). Pidamos a la Virgen María, en esta Eucaris'a, que interceda ante su Hijo por nosotros. ©LPi

Sacred Heart welcomes Fr. Michael J. Lamanna, S.J. He was born in Albany, New York, and claims all of Upstate New York as home. He attended Syracuse University and did two years of volunteer work before enter-ing the Society in 2011. He cherishes memo-ries of working with great women religious in Syracuse, New York, and Buffalo, New York, right before and right after joining the Socie-ty. As a novice, Fr. Michael did his long experiment at Nativity Miguel Middle School in Buffalo with Fr. Ed Durkin, SJ. Working with Ed was extremely formative, and it solidified Fr. Michael’s conviction that Jesuits bring something special to the world. After vows in 2013, Fr. Michael was missioned to Loyola University Chicago for philosophy studies. He went to Yap, Mi-cronesia, in 2016 for his regency, where he taught math, history and religion, along with running some extracurricular like volleyball, gardening and choir at Yap Catholic High School. Working with migrants and refugees has been a forma-tive part of Fr. Michael’s life. He worked in Refugee Resettlement in Syracuse before he entered the Socie-ty, and he has had a couple of opportunities to live and work near the Southwestern border as a Jesuit, includ-ing a summer working with the Kino Border Initiative. He most recently served as a deacon at St. Ignatius Parish in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, a welcome pas-toral outlet in a time when interpersonal ministry is quite scarce. He completed a Master of Divinity and Licentiate in Sacred Theology at the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. After ordination, Fr. Michael will do a pastoral year at Sacred Heart Parish in Richmond, Virginia.

La Parroquia del Sagrado Corazón le da la más cordial bienvenida al Padre Michael J. Lamanna, S.J. El Nació en Albany, Nueva York, y reclama todo el norte del estado de Nueva York como su hogar.
