NINTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
AUGUST 12, 2018
First Reading: I Kings 19:4-8 Queen Jezebel had vowed to kill Elijah, who went into the desert and prayed for death. Instead he went to sleep and was awakened by an angel, who told him to eat the food God had given him. He ate and went back to sleep,
but God’s angel again woke him and told him to eat. Strengthened by the food, he got up and walked forty days and nights to the mountain of God.
Second Reading: Ephesians 4:30-52 Paul appeals to the Ephesians to get rid of bitterness, anger, and malice. Instead they must be kind, compassionate, and forgiving just as God has been. We must be imitators of Christ, and love one another as he has loved us.
Gospel: John 6:41-51 The Jews were not convinced that Jesus was the bread that came down from heaven. But he again explains that he is the bread of life. He
tells them that anyone who believes and eats this bread shall live forever. He explains that the bread he will give is his flesh, for the life of the world.

FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY HOLYDAY OF OBLIGATION
Celebrated every year on August 15th,the Feast of the Assumption of Mary commemorates the death of Mary and her bodily assumption into Heaven, before her body could begin to decay – a foretaste of our own bodily resurrection at the end of time. Because it signifies the Blessed Virgin’s passing into eternal life, it is the most important of all Marina feasts and a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics. Our parish Mass schedule is as follows: Tuesday, Aug. 14th Vigil Mass at 5:30P.M. Wednesday, August 15th Masses at 9:00 A.M., 12:10 & 7:00 P.M. _____________________________________________ WEDDING BANNS

SHARING OUR GIFTS CAMPAIGN REVISTED
Dear Parishioner, Two years ago, we are launched our Sharing Our Gifts Campaign here at our beautiful parish of Saint Aedan. This was a campaign to increase our regular, ongoing, weekly offertory or collection. At that time I asked that every family to participate and give their most prayerful consideration to what increase their own financial means would allow them to afford and to maintain. I had hoped and prayed for an ongoing sacrificial commitment from everyone. Because of the generosity of so many of our parishioners, our campaign was and continues to be a big success. Because of the ongoing loyalty and perseverance of so many of our parishioners, we have seen that increased level of giving sustained over the past two years right up to the present. For this, I want to tell you how grateful I am and how proud you should all be. A number of you have found that it is desirable to make your offertory online. I highly encourage the use of the WeShare (formerly ParishPay) program. It is an easy way for you to make your contribution to our parish, even if you are unable to attend Mass because of vacations, illness or inclement weather. If you wish to enroll, please go to our web site and click on WeShare and you will be able to sign up for this on line payment program or you can call them at 1-800-950-9952. Finally, in the past three years, we have welcomed and registered over three hundred new families to St. Aedan’s. We respectfully invite them to join the ranks of those who have challenged themselves to increase their weekly offertory and do the best they can for our wonderful parish. Again, thank you and God bless you for all you do for Saint Aedan’s and for me, your pastor. Saint Aedan, pray for us.
Prayerfully Yours in Christ Monsignor Emmet Nevin

THE RACHEL MINISTRY Every 20 seconds an unborn child is aborted in the United States. In the 30 years since Roe vs. Wade,
the U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion on demand, the death toll has reached over 55 million. The Rachel ministry is a CONFIDENTIAL ministry for those scarred by abortion, miscarriage or stillbirth. Come and heal every third Monday of the month at the Marian Shrine in the Cafeteria Building in West Haverstraw, at 7:00pm. The next meeting is on July 16th.
