At the beginning.......
– This is a journey through time and space with the speed of thoughts !– We shall move 120 km (75 miles) north of Oslo to the city of Hamar,– to a place with a heritage spanning back 500 to 2000 years filled with– power, strenght, myths and glory –– The mightiest site in Norway 1200 years ago.
– Here, outside the city, we have a wonderful resort area – almost a park,– the ruins of a medieval church, a bishop`s recidence and the remains of– a monastry, - heritage museum, bathingplaces, railwaymuseum, open– stage, resturant – and so on --- so on. And here, at it`s entrance, we find– our object – a sleeping beauty slumbering at the sound of lazy waves– against the shore.........................You are all welcome ! ...........................

§ 229: ” If a constructor has
built a house and thehouse collapses
– killing the owner –then the constructorshall be executed”

Supporting theroofBefore anything else could be done we had to reinforce the building, although it had been standing for a hundred years.
It was also obvious that it was a wonder it hadn’t collapsed.
The walls had actually almost noability to take horizontal ormomental forces.

The ballerina in action! It was marvellous to look at – and see how the pilot danced with the brute !I`m sure he could have picked a match in a second and then do a sommer-sault just for fun !!
The pillars alongthe walls and thenew foundationare now at siteto support theroof and relief thewalls.
Now it is time tolower the floor andmake openings forthe new windows.
The openings at the leftare already partlyextended.

Sills of graniteThe sills are of tremendous size and weight (granite) and have an ungainly shaped underside.
We had to chop of the underside to give space to the upper and lower window.

New window openings IIIThe foundation for the big heavy granite sill is reinforced by steel beams.

It was reconstructed and the wall filled in with bricks from under the original windows.

The roofIt has been a landmark and icon for bypassers for three generations.
So:It was very important that the image and profile of the building still had it’s original identity.

Remember:
There are two concepts to a building; the useand the beauty.
The use belongs to the owner, the beauty – thewhole world.
