THE AZTEC EMPIRE

• The aztecs lived in highlands of Mexico, and were governed by a governor.

• Most of them were farmers who cultivated corn, tomatoes, beans, avocados, vanilla and cacao, with which they made chocolate.

• They were also experts artesans and potters.

• There was little long-distance trade, since they had not discovered the wheel yet.

• They did not use horses, since there were none in America.

The Aztecs worshipped many gods, including the Sun god, the god of war, and the god of rain. The built large temples in which they practiced human sacrifice.

• The Aztec empire may have had between 10 and 20 million inhabitants, since its soldiers coquered many other peoples.
