“Mr. Holmes” Wednesday, August 5, 2015

Depart 1:30 pm Tickets: $7.75

Runtime: 1 hr. 44 min. Rating: PG

Genre: Drama

Director Bill Condon puts a spin on Arthur

Donan Coyle's most celebrated character with

Mr. Holmes, which stars Ian McKellen as the

famous detective. The set-up is that a now-retired

Holmes, his steel-trap mind starting to fade with old age,

lives out his golden years in the late 1940s. He returns

from a trip to Japan searching for a plant that could slow

the aging process and help him regain the faculties he

knows he's lost. While there, he witnessed first-hand the

result of America's bombing of Hiroshima, which has put

him in a contemplative state. He lives with his devoted

housekeeper Mrs. Murno (Laura Linney), and her son

Roger (Milo Parker), who turns out to be of great help

when the detective reopens his investigation into the case

that led to his retirement.

“Lunch & Learn” with Kathy Weidner

Cypress Registered Dietitian Monday, August 24, 2015

11:45 am - 1:00 pm in the Garden Room Topic: “Gluten Free Diets – the Facts and the FAD!”

Many Americans have jumped on the gluten free

bandwagon. (Gluten is the protein found in wheat, barley, and

rye.) Some folks have given up gluten to try to lose weight. Some

folks because they “just don’t feel good,” and a concerned friend told them to

try going “gluten free.” Some people must follow a gluten free diet because

they have been diagnosed with Celiac disease, an auto immune disease that

attacks the small hairs in the intestinal wall called “villa” responsible for the

absorption of our nutrients from our foods. Symptoms are varied, but many

folks with Celiac disease have bloating, skin rashes, achy joints, vitamin

deficiencies and weight loss. Children who have Celiac do not grow properly.

There is a new group of folks that doctors have observed with different

symptoms, but not diagnosed Celiac disease, that may have a “gluten

sensitivity,” They just feel better when they follow a gluten free diet. Come

hear the facts of going “gluten free.” Of course a “gluten free” lunch will be

served!

Please call, Kathy Weidner, Cypress Dietitian at 704-714-5551 to reserve

your place at the table!
