MARCH FOR LIFE
Rosary & Prayer Vigil January 25: 12:00 am
midnight until till 8:00 a.m.
St. Hugh Worship Site
Since there will not be a bus going to the March for Life
this year from our parish, you can do your part by participat-
ing in the Rosary and Prayer Vigil for Life.
In communion with the National March for Life in
Washington, D.C., we will be praying the Rosary and the
Divine Mercy every hour on the hour beginning at mid-
night until 8:00 am (Jan 25). A group will be spending the
night at the church. Anyone wishing to spend the night is
welcome. If you cannot spend the night, you may visit the
church at any hour throughout the night. The Rosary will
begin on each hour throughout the night, followed by the
Divine Mercy and lasting about 30 minutes. What a beauti-
ful sacrifice and act of reparation to offer to the Immaculate
Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus for LIFE! Any
questions, please call, 724-322-4570.
SPECIAL COLLECTION TODAY — January 18-19
The Diocese of Pittsburgh is home to two nationally rec-
ognized educational programs for children with special
needs: St. Anthony School Programs and DePaul School
for Hearing and Speech (formerly known as The DePaul
Institute).
A Special collection to benefit these two organizations
will take place the weekend of January 18-19 at all Masses
at each parish. Please use the envelope in your envelope
packet. Your support is critical. And your generosity will
help these organizations forever improve the lives of their
students and families.
MASS OF HEALING AND ANOINTING The next Mass of Healing and Anointing will be
held on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at St. Ignatius,
Bobtown. Anyone may attend. Please mark your
calendars.
PRISON MINISTRY AT GREENE SCI Interested in participating in prison ministry at Greene
SCI? If so, Please call Patti Deschamps at 724-316-0466 to
find out about the Good Shepherd Prison Ministry. We do a
three-day retreat in the spring every year and Bible Study
meetings in the evenings on the second and fourth Wednes-
days of every month at Greene SCI.
Wednesday of this week is the anniversary of the Su-
preme Court decision of Roe vs Wade which legalized abor-
tion in our country. This decision was certainly a major step
away from Christian moral principles and advanced the all
around attack on human life. We need to do all in our pow-
er to reverse the trend by our prayers and by demonstrating
respect for all persons from conception to natural death by
all we say and do.
To this end, the annual March for Life will be held in
Washington D.C. While we do not have a bus going this
year, we can be involved by praying for the success of the
March and by our own fasting and sacrifices that day. May
our Lord hear such sincere prayers and effect a conversion
of all hearts in our country so that we all return to loving the
Christian principles taught by our Lord, Jesus Christ.
GOSPEL MEDITATION
ENCOURAGE A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE
On the cusp of fame, power, or influence, would you turn it
down? Today’s Gospel again features John the Baptist. Contro-
versial but popular, John has gathered quite a group of follow-
ers. He has disciples. People come from near and far to be bap-
tized by him. Pharisees and government leaders are drawn to
his preaching. If John was another man, a lesser man, he would
have claimed his own greatness. Instead, John the Baptist is a
witness to humility.
“The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him and said,
‘Behold the Lamb of God … he is the one of whom I said, “A man is coming after me who ranks ahead of me.”… the reason
why I came baptizing with water was that he might be made known.’” Rather than point to himself, John points to Christ.
John could have grasped at what he had accumulated. He could
have seen Jesus as a Messianic competitor. Instead, John
knows who he is. He knows his place as forerunner. Because
John knows who Jesus is. “I have seen and testified that he is the Son of God.”
A life of humility, a life for others, can be challenging to
live. So much of our culture is built around achievement and
individualism. We can justify it, too, in pursuit of “greater
goods” and higher ideals. In the process, however, we might
miss our own participation in the kingdom of God. John, for all
of his humility, was not an afterthought. In another Gospel pas-
sage, Jesus calls him “the greatest prophet,” even the greatest of men. Why? Because he fulfills the mission given to him by
God: to announce the coming of the Messiah. We too are
prophets and forerunners. Our witness to the Gospel is meant
to point people to Jesus. Consider your own mission this week.
To whom are you called to announce the good news of the Son
of God?

Life can be overwhelming. Too many worries, too many places to be, too many items on the to-do list. Do you ever wish for some way—any way—to slow down and really consider what it’s all about? Where do you currently find your meaning? Where do you want to find meaning? Is it possible to be fulfilled? These are questions worth asking. Discovering Christ is for anyone who is curious. Enjoy a delicious dinner and listen to a thought-provoking talk that is designed to explore the meaning and purpose of your life. After the talk, you can share your thoughts in a small group (and talk as much or as little as you wish). It’s all done in a warm, friendly, and judgement-free environment. Discovering Christ is fun, relaxed, and free.

Second Sunday in Ordinary Time 7
Every Sunday at Mass, Catholics around the world hear 3 or 4 passages from the Bible. We end up listening to hun-dreds of passages from Scripture. Join us weekly as Dr. Brant Pitre takes us for an in-depth Bible study on the Gospel readings, connecting them with the Old Testament reading and Responsorial Psalm for each Sunday Mass. You will learn the meaning of passages, why the various readings were chosen and put together, and how the Old Testament reading points forward to the New Testament and how the New Testament fulfills the Old. Understand the Biblical roots of the Catholic faith and how the readings that are given to us each week are meant to be applied to our daily lives, walking with Christ as Disciples of the Lord.
St. Ann Social Hall
Wednesdays at 7:00 pm
No RSVP, you can just show up
PRESENTED BY: DR. EDWARD SRI (AM & PM SESSIONS)
Being Catholic takes more than simply believing in God or doing what
he asks of us. Jesus wants you to be more than just a believer—He wants
you to be his disciple and friend. Follow Me invites you to experience the
joy of a renewed friendship with Christ. You will learn what it takes to
follow Him. You will experience the joy of divine friendship, and you will
see how God— and only God—can satisfy the deepest desires of your
heart.
Each of the EIGHT sessions will have a 30-minute DVD presentation followed by a 30-minute group discussion on the
session’s questions. Dr. Edward Sri will guide you through the Gospel of John. Dr. Sri will explain how Christ’s en-
counters with others in the Gospel are examples of how He lovingly and persistently calls each of us to a more intimate
and life-changing relationship with Him.
Both sessions will be at St. Hugh Worship Site: Tuesdays, beginning February 11 through March 31, 2020

Lord, You invite all who are burdened to
come to you. Allow Your healing
Hand to heal me.
Touch my soul with Your compas-
sion for others; touch my heart with
Your courage and infinite Love for
all; touch my mind with Your Wis-
dom, and may my mouth always
proclaim Your praise.
Teach me to reach out to You in all
my needs, and help me to lead others
to You by my example.
Most loving Heart of Jesus, bring me
health in body and spirit that I may
serve You with all my strength.
Touch gently this life which you
have created, now and forever.
