SPOTLIGHT ON OUR JUDGE

Mr Dan Ericsson [Sweden]

I cannot remember a time in my life when my main interest was not dogs. Althoughmy familywasnon-doggy, I persuadedmyparents tohaveaScottish Terrier when I was a young schoolboy and this was my start in theworldofdogs.Mylove-affairwithScottiescontinuesaftermorethan40 years and is still as important as ever, but Labradors are now also includedandboththesebreedsarebredundermyprefix,Raglan.Ihavebred 175 champions and Raglan champions have been made up in many countries worldwide including the UK. Pride of place must go to Ch Raglan Rory, Sweden’s Top Dog All Breeds in 2001 and his daughter Ch Raglan Rose Maiden at Brio, Reserve BIS at Crufts in 2003.

I started judging at Open Show level in 1976 and am now approved to judge All Breeds, Groups and BIS in the FCI countries, and also many breeds in various groups plus all Groups and BIS in the UK.

Judging has taken me to all continents and I have had the pleasure of judgingsomeof thefinestshows in theworld includingCrufts,SydneyRoyal, Santa Barbara, several FCI world shows and the Eukanuba show in California.

Over the years I have enjoyed judging Basenjis worldwide, and I have alwaysfoundthebreedmostinterestingandapleasuretojudge.Myfirstacquaintance with the breed is through a Swedish friend, Kris Sandberg of Beldamfame, whoinfactimportedandbredoneofSweden’sfirstlittersof Basenjis from St Erme stock, so I have followed the breed closely for a long time.

I feel honoured to have been asked to judge at The Basenji Club of Great Britain Championship Show. While I was unable to undertake my original appointment with you in 2011, I am much looking forward to judging your breed this coming Summer.
