Food by the King William, including veggie options, plus a licensed bar, teas & coffees from 6:00 pm. SUNDAY 15TH MARCH - TUNLEY SUNDAY KITCHEN AND VILLAGE SPRING CLEAN. The Sunday kitchen will open as usual at 10:00 AM and run until mid-day. Could you spare an hour to help give Tunley a spring clean by joining TRC supporters in a litter picking session around the village, please arrive at the TRC by 9:00 AM – litter picking equipment will be provided, returning by 10:00 AM to enjoy a coffee and sausage bap at the Sunday Kitchen.
EASTER SATURDAY 11TH APRIL THE BIG EASTER EGG HUNT AND TUNLEY KITCHEN 10:00AM to MID - DAY The Sunday Kitchen next month will be on Easter Saturday combined with The Big Easter Egg Hunt for children, starting at 10:00 AM at the TRC, everyone welcome. NEED A VENUE – with free Wi-Fi. Are you looking for a venue for a children’s Birthday Party, Wedding Reception, Business Meeting, 21st Birthday Party or a hall where your local club or organisation can hold regular meetings? Whatever your needs the facilities at the Tunley Recreation Centre will meet your requirements. The community hall has a kitchen complete with cooker, hob and microwave and an extensive serving area. The premises are licensed for music & dancing and the sale of alcohol. Seating at round tables can accommodate up to 80 guests, and for talks and presentations we can accommodate up to 120 people. The hall is easily accessible to those with mobility problems, and has appropriate toilet facilities. Outside there is ample car parking, a children’s play area, a wildflower meadow and a football pitch, all included in the modest hourly hire charge. FLY TIPPING - BY THE FLEA
BRAINED
Another recent incident is pictured of fly-
tipping on Dunkerton Lane. A big shout out
is due to BANES for their speedy response
in clearing up this mess which was, clearly,
a load of domestic rather than commercial
rubbish.
I think there’s an academic chair in
psychology waiting in some university for
the person who can explain the mindset of
the morons that do this.
It’s the mindset that says, “Shall we drive 2
miles to the local recycling centre and get
rid of this stuff we don’t need? No, I know
what – instead we’ll drive 4 miles out into
the middle of nowhere and dump it on the
side of the road. Then the rubbish fairy will
come in the night and magic it away.

Please do join us for the SOUP LUNCH in aid of WELLOW RIDING FOR THE DISABLED on Sunday 15 March (DPH 12.30). Lunch will be FREE OF CHARGE and there will be a voluntary collection box for Wellow RDA. Sophy Bayntun-Coward, who is one of the Trustees, will be there to chat with people about its work. As she explains, volunteers are needed as well as money:
Wellow Riding for the Disabled offers disabled children and adults in and around Bath the chance to ride and be with horses. As well as fantastic physiotherapy and the chance for the less mobile to move autonomously, riding greatly benefits mental health, providing a chance to learn new skills and to spend time outside with our calm, friendly horses. The whole group is run entirely by volunteers but our overheads are still sizeable. Any support, financial or as a volunteer, will be gratefully received. If you are interested in volunteering please do get in touch with Ann Allen 07713 639125
This is an opportunity for people in the community to get together, enjoy some food and, if possible, give a little money to a deserving cause. Don’t worry if you don’t have any money (or volunteer time) to spare, come anyway - you will be very welcome!

SUNDAY SERVICES
From The Rectory
Dear Friends,
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace
as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with
hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
[Romans 15.13]
The season of Lent is the time of year when we
prepare ourselves to enter again into the Holy
Week-Easter cycle: the death of Jesus Christ on the
cross on Good Friday, and his glorious
breakthrough to new life on Easter morning. This
annual cycle is also precisely the pattern of each
and every Sunday when we come to church to
worship. In the early Church, each Sunday was
known as the feast of “little Easter”. To those first
Christians, every Sunday was a summons to the
joy and optimism of the resurrection as they broke
bread together in remembrance of Jesus.
All of this is summed up in the words we declare at
the Eucharist: “Christ has died! Christ is risen!
Christ will come again! These are words that speak
of the past, the present and the future. These are
words that also speak of our past, our present and
our future. These are words that breed in us a
confidence that leads us to love as He loved, and to
live as he lived: without condition, and without
end.
Someone wrote, “A person is always a Christian in
order to become one.” The cross and resurrection
of Jesus empower us with hope. The hope is that
we can always be more than we are at this
particular moment.
I’d like to end this month’s letter with a prayer
written by a man named Charles de Foucauld. He
lived most of his adult life as a hermit in the
Sahara, in surrender to the Lord:
Father, I abandon myself into your hands; do with
me what you will. Whatever you may do, I thank
you: I am ready for all, I accept all. Let only your
will be done in me, and in all your creatures. I
wish no more than this, O Lord .Into your hands I
commend my soul; I offer it to you with all the love
of my heart, for I love you, Lord, and so need to
give myself, to surrender myself into your hands,
without reserve, and with boundless confidence,
for you are my Father.

Report on the Parish Council Meeting 9 January 2020 DPH
HIGHWAYS AND RELATED MATTERS Overgrown Vegetation on the B3115 Near Manor House Bend Following a request from a parishioner this will reported to BANES Council via “Fix My Street”. Withyditch Road Markings We were advised by our Ward Councillor that the slow markings would be repainted in the spring. Withyditch Traffic Calming Request Following a request from parishioners, the parish council requested BANES consider installing traffic
calming measures at Withyditch. BANES traffic management team’s response is that they have limited resources to develop and introduce highway improvement schemes across the authority, including those that are aimed at reducing vehicle speeds or modifying driver behaviour. It is essential, therefore, that these limited resources are directed towards those locations where the need is greatest and, at the present time, this invariably means only on roads or junctions where there is a significant and proven road safety problem. Overhanging Vegetation Brooklands Vegetation clearance to clear the street light would be completed on the north side of the lane by Curo before the end of March. The owner on the south side had made an attempt to cut back the ash tree but had been unable to get high enough to tackle the boughs necessary. He is considering further options. Visibility & Traffic Speed when Exiting Crossways Park onto the A367 In response to the parish council’s request that the speed limits on the A367 between the Odd Down and PSJ roundabouts be regularised, BANES traffic management team has said that the speed limit changes have been placed on their future schemes register for future prioritisation and possible funding. Visibility Palmers Lane/B3115 Junction BANES highways has reported to the parish council that, following a discussion with their senior traffic engineer, a request was made for the local police beat officer to visit the area and engage with residents who park in this area and highlight the concerns in terms of potential impact on visibility. RURAL TRANSPORT There will be a publicity campaign to increase the awareness of the community transport options available via the BANES website, and to encourage communities to set up lift sharing schemes.

The parish council unanimously supported this application. While the larger shed is not deemed to be completely in character with the rural setting and the green belt due to its white UPVC windows and doors, sufficient neighbouring properties and buildings use similar materials resulting in the larger shed complying with the core strategy and
placemkaing plan policies D2 and GB1. Similarly by it siting adjacent to the Tunley Recreation Centre and behind a tree the larger shed does not restrict the openness of the Green Belt and is therefore compliant with policy CP8. As the outbuildings would be permitted development if they were sited away from the boundary and they replace a previous derelict outbuilding the parish council doesn’t believe the sheds are a disproportionate addition to the original building despite the various extensions already made to the property. Therefore the development is compliant with policy GB3. TREE PLANTING The free Woodland Trust trees of 30 saplings are being delivered soon. SERVICES – NOW’S YOUR CHANCE! From David Orme Here’s an update regarding the future of rural bus services through the parish. The provision of future bus services will depend to a large degree on the support rural areas receive from the new West of England Combined Authority (WECA). BANES is a member of WECA. This news has recently arrived from our Ward Councillor, Neil Butters who, coincidentally, is BANES lead Councillor on rural transport issues! “I wanted to let you know that local people are being encouraged to give their views on new plans to substantially improve walking and cycling in the West of England. The West of England Combined Authority (WECA) is running consultations on a regional Bus Strategy and a Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) between 3 February and 15 March 2020. WECA, together with Bristol City Council, Bath and North East Somerset Council, North Somerset Council and South Gloucestershire Council, is consulting on its Bus Strategy which outlines how the West of England authorities intend to double bus patronage by 2036. Both consultations can be accessed via travelwest.info/transportconsultations https://travelwest.info/transportconsultations “ (or Google WECA Bus Strategy!) If, as many local residents clearly were, you are really tee-ed off with what happened to the 179 last year and would wish to avoid further similar unpleasant surprises in future then do take a bit of time to have a look at WECA’s bus strategy and respond to the short on-line questionnaire about it before the 15th March. If through this consultation WECA don’t get to hear from residents how important rural bus services are to them then, inevitably, in the future scarce funding will first go into the big city areas and the rural areas will be left with the crumbs.
Dunkerton WI The Dunkerton WI met on a blustery evening on 11th February. Our speaker was Richard Raynsford from Pilton who talked about life with the Glastonbury Festival on his doorstep. He was able to illustrate, with the help of slides, all aspects of the Festival from mud baths to glamping ! Tea followed his talk and the meeting was concluded with a busy agenda.

Details were given out of a Mental Health Awareness Day held in January and arranged by Camdyke WI Group in conjunction with Rethink Mental Illness. Members were reminded of an upcoming trip to Burns the Bread in Glastonbury and a fun skittles evening arranged for all members on 3rd March. A coach trip to Windsor Castle and the Savill Gardens is being co-ordinated to take place in May. Some members were interested in a Craft Group Project knitting baby clothes for Syria. Notices of a Quiz night arranged by Tunley Recreation for 15th February and a Gala week being organised by Camerton Community Hall from 10th -15th August were given. The next meeting of our group is on Tuesday 10th March - the speaker is Karen Mathis from Hospice S.W.

CROQUET SOCIAL STARTS
THE YEAR
Croquet is a sport that is played throughout the
year at Camerton and Peasedown Croquet Club,
but that did not stop members celebrating the start
of the 2020 season with a Social Get Together and
lunch
Home made casseroles (chicken, fish and
vegetarian options), plus the trimmings – not
forgetting the puddings – all made the day and
afterwards a series of devious quizzes tested the
grey cells
The club has excellent facilities – 4 full sized
lawns and a club pavilion – some of the best in the
area. Membership continues to grow – Croquet is
becoming more popular.
The Club also has social side including quizzes and
club lunches, not forgetting club competitions to
suit all skill levels
So, now we are into a new year, why not think of
experiencing croquet for yourself. Croquet is a
sport for everyone – all ages, women play on equal
terms to men, all skill levels, all abilities – it’s
gentle exercise and is good for your health and
well being
