A DATE FOR THE DIARYDon’t miss the inaugural Europe vs USA track & fi eld match, The Match, to be staged in Minsk, Belarus, on 9-10 of September.

The high-tech 22,000-seat Dinamo Stadium will be the ideal setting for the four-a-side team competition, pitting the strongest athletics continent and the strongest athletics nation in a fi erce battle for bragging rights that is sure to capture the imagination of fans around the world.

The Match is the brainchild of Svein Arne Hansen, President of European Athletics and former Director of Oslo’s Bislett Games. It will help revive athletics’ tradition of head-to-head team events and establish a Europe-USA rivalry similar to those in golf’s Ryder and Solheim Cups.

“Team competition brings out the best in athletes and fans love to see stars fi ghting to lift the cup,” says Hansen. “I am sure The Match will give the 2019 season an extra dimension and become a regular feature on the international calendar.”

Several Olympic, World & European champions have already committed to participating. Sponsorship has been secured and a TV rights agreement signed with the European Broadcasting Union, which will beam the event around the world.

Ticket pre sales are going well with strong interest from the public in Minsk, which will host the European Games earlier in the summer.

The Important Details76 female and 76 male athletes. 25 team o� cials (team leaders, coaches, physios, etc.) for Team Europe and Team USA.

Selection process Team Europe: individual winners of the European Athletics Team Championships Super League 2019 + 3 top from the season list.

Selection process Team USA: fi rst 4 from the Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships.

Teams to be announced by 19 August, 2019.

THE MATCH EUROPE v USA 2019

Scoring4 athletes from each team to participate in each individual event.

2 relay teams from each team to participate in each relay event.

Men and Women will score together for each team.

Winner of individual and relay events – 9 points;

2nd place – 7 points; 3rd place – 6 points; 4th place – 5 points etc.

Athletes or relay teams that do not fi nish, or disqualifi ed or with no valid performance – 0 points.
