(photos by Chris Miller) by Michael Hixon The red carpet was rolled out Saturday in Hermosa Beach for the “Night of Fashion by the Sea Benefit Concert,” a benefit concert for children suffering from HIV/AIDS and pediatric research. Jazz icons including Lena Horne, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Nancy Wilson and Della Reese were honored for lifetime achievement in entertainment and a fashion show, “Runway Fads of Fashion: Jazz … Rewind the Journey” also took place as part of the fund-raiser. Hosted by the nonprofit Hush Foundation, the event’s proceeds will support Camp Heartland programs and services, and research at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Center for Pediatric and Adolescent AIDS. Reese started her career in the late 1950s as a jazz singer but is known recently for her years on the TV show “Touched by an Angel.” She is now an ordained A Night’s Good Cause Benefit concert and fashion show in Hermosa Beach helped children and their families cope with HIV/AIDS (Please turn to Page 56)
