Just in time for Valentine’s...Cherry Enchiladas
3/4 cup and 2 teaspoons water 3/4 cup and 2 teaspoons butter 3/4 cup and 2 teaspoons white sugar 8 (10 inch) flour tortillas 1-1/2 (21 ounce) cans cherry pie filling 3 tablespoons and 1/2 teaspoon white sugar 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 tablespoon and 1-3/4 teaspoons crushed sliced almonds
Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Combine the water, butter and 3/4 cup + 2 tsp of sugar in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Place a few spoonfuls of cherry pie filling just slightly off center of each tor-tilla. Roll up and place seam side down in the baking dish. Pour the hot liquid over the 'enchiladas' making sure to coat the tops com-pletely. The mixture will be watery. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Combine the 3 tablespoons & 1/2 tsp sugar, cinnamon and almonds in a small bowl or cup; sprinkle over the top of the enchiladas. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes in the preheated oven, or until outside edges of the tortillas are golden brown. Let cool slightly before
serving. Serves 8.
God's Valentine Gift
God's Valentine gift of love to us Was not a bunch of flowers; It wasn't candy, or a book To while away the hours.
His gift was to become a man,
So He could freely give His sacrificial love for us, So you and I could live.
He gave us sweet salvation, and
Instruction, good and true-- To love our friends and enemies
And love our Savior, too.
So as we give our Valentines, Let's thank our Lord and King;
The reason we have love to give Is that He gave everything.

Growing while remaining rooted
“ 6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in
him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were
taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6-7 (NIV)
“Growing” is a word that we use a great deal in our church vocabulary.
We might be asked, “Are you ‘growing’ in your walk?” Or how about this
one, have you been asked, “Are you ‘growing’ in your knowledge of the
Lord?” Or maybe you have made this statement, “I’m ‘growing’ daily in
the Lord.” We make these statements, and at times we find ourselves proud
of being able to make such statements. However, I wonder if any of us have
ever asked ourselves this question, “Am I rooted in my growth?”
Paul prayed that the Colossians would not only strengthen their faith
(grow) but that they would specifically strengthen their faith in Christ
Jesus…just as they had received him. Paul wanted those believers to
remain ROOTED in Christ. In other words, he wanted them to be
entrenched or engrained in the very Lord that they had learned about and
loved in the past. He wanted them to never depart from their one true love.
With that engrained in their lives, THEN, they could grow, be built up, and
strengthen their faith. In fact, with this being rooted in their lives, they
would be able to demonstrate overflowing thankfulness. They could do this
because they were holding to the basic truth of Jesus Christ. They would
not add onto this truth.
I was reminded of this truth when working on my sermon last week.
Hebrew is definitely not a strong suite for me, but I needed to look up the
meaning for a few words. In doing this, I had to find the root of the word.
The suffixes and prefixes modify the word, but the root is how one looks up
the Hebrew word in the lexicon. You look up the words by the most basic
part of the word. If you want to know the real meaning of the word, you
have to get at its root.
If we want to know the real meaning of the Gospel, then we have to get at its root…Jesus Christ. I would challenge each and every one of us (me too)
to ask ourselves if we are rooted in our growth. Ask ourselves if what we
are doing is rooted in the faith of Christ. Ask ourselves if what we are
saying is rooted in the love of Christ. Ask ourselves if what we are thinking
is rooted in the hope of Christ. No matter how much we grow in numbers, it
will not matter if we are not rooted in what matters!
