According to various media reports atremor hit some parts of Gauteng atapproximately 21:19 Pm on Monday2 Decenber. The tremor triggered car and house

alarms after shaking ground for anestimated five seconds.Concerned Waterbergers left these

reports on Earthquake-Report.com:Bela Bela – “Lasted for about 5

seconds, was strong enough totrigger some car/house alarms.”Modimolle – “Strong shaking with

thunder-like noise — very scary! Mywhole bed shook.”Bela-Bela – “Never felt an earth

quake before in South Africa.”Mokopane – “I was sitting on the

couch and the roof creaked as if thewind was blowing very strong outside. But then it groaned loudly outside formore than 3 seconds. No damage asfar as I know. Felt very weird as it isthe first time this happened in mytown.” No injuries have been reportedand there is a possibility of moreearthquakes and tremors about tostrike Gauteng. Earthquakes ortremors are the result of a stressbuild-up in the earth’s crust. Whenthe stress becomes too great, it isthen released in the form of a quake, usually on a geological fault line.

Hailstorm pours in destruction

Justin Steyn and TK Mashaba

A massive hailstorm wreaked havoc inBela-Bela on Thursday 28 November.Homes and businesses in the areasuffered significant damages as a resultmainly due to damaged ceilings.Local businesses in Bela-Bela such as

Tekkie-Town, Nedbank and MetroHyperland were among those that werehard hit.Tekkie town’s celling fell down making

away for rain water to get in.The management said they were busy

doing stock taking to determine thedamage of the stock in their store.“This is one hail storm that no one

expected as it came with all of us athome,” said the manager one worker. They even employed a couple of people

to help them move the stock to the otheroffice while busy with the renovations.Metro Hyperland employers were seen

sweeping water out of their liquor outlet.

There was heavy water that entered thestores and the only way to resume workwas to sweep the water out of the store.Nedbank had to close down the following

day due to flooding. The BEAT was toldthat the bank’s computer system had beenaffected which made all banking servicesunavailable to the public. Displeasedcustomers queued outside of the bank buta notice was placed at the bank’s entrancenotifying their customers of the bank’sclosure. Free roaming animals such asbirds and rats had also been killed in thestorm. Kretchmar Avenue had reportedlybeen littered with dead doves that hadbeen killed during the storm. The hailstorm has also caused a rumour

to circulate around town concerning thestructural condition of the Bela-Belaprovincial hospital. The rumour suggeststhat certain areas of the hospital had beensignificantly damaged due to the stormand that patients in certain wards had to berelocated to hospitals in Modimolle.

Spokesperson for the hospital, deniedthese claims and said that only certainareas of the X-ray ward had beendamaged.“The day after the hailstorm people had

come to the hospital and wanted to know ifany of the wards had been damaged or ifpatients had to be moved. They wereassured that nothing like that hashappened and that the patients are safe,”he said. The Limpopo department ofhealth assessed the situation at thehospital and confirmed that the hospitalhad not suffered any major damage. However, the department confirmed that

the X-ray ward’s roof had been damaged.“For now, the X-ray Section is affected andpatients are being taken to the F.HOdendaal Hospital for X-rays, until furthernotice,” said the department’sspokesperson Macks Lesufi.Lesufi said that the situation at the

hospital is being assessed and that repairswill be underway shortly.

When it’s time to saygoodbye From believe to

concrete faith Bishop Silas Tlou

Our attitude shapes our future.Remember what an attitude actuallyis: a reflection of what we believe. Therefore, what we allow into ourbelief system is fundamentallyimportant to our success in life. Wecannot allow unbelief to drive usaway from the Lord. Instead, wemust focus on His unfailing charac-ter, taking Hebrews 11:6 toheart:“Without faith it is impossibleto please Him, for he who comes toGod must believe that He is andthat He is a rewarder of those whoseek Him.” When we do so, we canmove through the stages of faith, which are: 1. Little or restless faith. The

person with little faith says, “I thinkthe Lord can do as He says, but I’mnot certain He will.” He or shestruggles to believe in God’spromises. The disciples displayedthis weak confidence in the Lord inMatthew 8:23-27. Jesus slept whilea great storm arose on the Sea ofGalilee. Overcome with fear becauseof the thrashing winds and the wavespouring over the side of the boat, thedisciples woke Him saying, “Saveus, Lord; we are perishing!” (v. 25).He responded, “Why are you afraid, you men of little faith?” (v. 26).Their focus was on what they were

seeing and feeling instead of the factthat the Son of God was with them. The same can happen to us. If wecenter our attention on our difficultiesrather than the Lord, it doesn’t takemuch to sink us. The only way forus to have peace in life is to focuson the Father.2. Great or maturing faith. The

person with great faith trusts theWord of God and relies on theunfailing character of the Lord. He orshe says, “Not only do I know theFather can help me, I am sure Hewill.”David showed this deep relianceupon the Lord when he foughtGoliath (1 Sam. 17). So did thewoman who touched the hem ofJesus’ garment and was healed(Matt. 9:20-22). They had great faithand could trust God’s timing andprovision, regardless of how theircircumstances appeared. This was also the testimony of the

centurion who asked Jesus to healhis servant (Matt. 8:5-10). Herecognized the authtority Jesus hadas the Son of God and said, “Justsay the word, and my servant will behealed” (v. 8). Jesus replied, “Truly Isay to you, I have not found suchgreat faith with anyone in Israel” (v.10).3. Perfect or resting faith.

People with perfect faith say, “Godhas promised me, so I trust what Hehas said is already accomplished.”They no longer ask the Lord for thedesires of their hearts. Instead, theythank Him that His perfect provisionis already fulfilled—whether theypresently see it or not.
