The Beginning of Our Leadership Journey

Participants Plano is synonymous with excellence and our leadership has
reflected this fact. Through Leadership Plano, the Plano
Chamber of Commerce is committed to continuing the strong
tradition of involved, dedicated community leadership that has
served the city so well.
Leadership Plano participants are given the opportunity to
explore the inner workings of Plano’s government, educational systems, private and non-profit
organizations, justice system, and economic development. The insight they gain is meant to serve
as the foundation for their long-term involvement in the Plano community, ideally in a variety of
leadership roles. The individuals profiled in this book were selected because they want to be an
integral part of Plano’s future. Each has excelled in a chosen field of interest and each has given
time to serve the community.
History & Purpose Leadership Plano began in 1983 as a community leadership
development program of the Plano Chamber of Commerce. Each
year, up to 36 candidates are selected to participate in the
program. Leadership Plano is dedicated to educating,
developing, and empowering current and future leaders for the
community and motivating them to serve civic, charitable, and
business organizations.
We are a community of servant leaders
Program Leadership Plano participants undertake a nine-month program
designed to increase their individual and community leadership
skills. The program begins with a two-day orientation retreat in
September focusing on individual leadership styles and
techniques. The class then spends one day a month from
October through May examining specific topics and aspects of
the community. Extensive leadership development curriculum is
offered throughout the program.
Bob Kehr Leadership Plano 2021-22 Board Chair
Dear Leadership Plano Class 38,
Congratulations on being selected to Leadership Plano. I welcome you to this extraordinary community. You are embarking on a nine-month journey that has the potential to propel you forward across all aspects of your life. This will be one of the most rewarding programs you will go through. By the end of the first weekend, you will know the name of everyone in your class and will have become a team of 36. By the end of the program, you will have much more information and a much wider circle. After that, what you accomplish as a class and as individuals is up to you. Truly, I am confident that you will accomplish a lot.
This is a prestigious program, and for 37 years it has had a positive effect on individuals, the community, and businesses. You will recognize the names of many of the graduates, and you likely have benefited from their efforts in our community.
I am very thankful for the ongoing support from the Plano Chamber of Commerce. Without them, it is hard to say what would have happened in 2020. Because of the support of the Chamber, the efforts of the board of directors, and the 1200 or so Leadership Plano alumni, this program is as strong as ever.
Class 38, your time is now. Make the most of it. Come with an open mind, and high expectations.
EXPECT to become a community advocate because you have learned about your community.
EXPECT that your efforts will be amplified because you will have built strong relationships and friendships with other dynamic leaders.
EXPECT to expand your influence because you have become a more effective leader.
You have a great class, and I am excited to make this trip with you. Your journey begins at the retreat, and your ultimate destination is the BEST CLASS EVER.
