    DelayshamperlibraryplanningBy Jerry LaVauteSpecial Writer

At times, the public com-ments or non-agenda por-tion of a public meetingmay be the most interesting, informative and to-the-point part. A meeting lastmonth of the Belleville AreaDistrict Library Board wasone such example.

    The formal agenda items

were mostly boilerplate, butthe public comments por-tion focused on the issue:what is the status of theplans for the new library?

Area resident and attor-ney Barbra Miller posedthat question from amongthe audience of abouta dozen people to boardmembers, all of whom werepresent July 10. Libraryofficials confessed they werefrustrated by the delays.

Library Board chairwom-an MJ Dawson said that shehad spoken with representa-tives of the Belleville CityCouncil in February, andasked them whether the citywould give to the library theland on which the currentlibrary and the adjacentpublic parking lot is located,to better enable the library
