Residents, officials celebrate grand reopening

Customers of the Belleville McDonalds weretreated to a whole new look for the restaurant atthe May 17 grand reopening.
The remodel included sleeker tables andbooths, recessed lighting and faux-wood col-umns in front of the registers.
Following a couple months of remodeling,the new face of the restaurant was unveiled andthe celebration included McDonalds executives,community members and city officials, includ-ing Van Buren Township Supervisor LindaCombs and Belleville Mayor Kereen Conley.
We dont invest in restaurants we invest inpeople, said Joseph Kowal, McDonalds directorof operations, during the ribbon-cutting. Were
taking a look at where we can re-brand ourrestaurants. We took a look at (the location) andsaid, how do we make it look better and betterreflect our community?
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony,McDonalds officials said locations acrossthe country will undergo similar changes.

Belleville man accused of abducting womanwaives court hearing; case heading to trialBy Ben BairdHeritage Media
The case against Raymond James March, whois accused of abducting a 25-year-old Ypsilantiwoman who was forced into a car on March 6,has been sent to the Washtenaw County circuitcourt for trial.
Farrah Cook was able to get away from herkidnappers later the same day she was taken.Police are still looking for another suspect, iden-tified as Cooks ex-boyfriend Jeremy Abston.
March, a 21-year-old Belleville resident,appeared Tuesday in 14A District Court fora preliminary examination of the evidenceagainst him before Judge Joseph Burke.
The defendant chose to waive his right to thehearing, in which the county prosecutors officewould have been required to present evidenceshowing probable cause that a crime was com-mitted and that he committed it. He pleaded notguilty to the charges against him.
According to the court docket, March facestwo felony charges of unlawful imprisonment,each punishable by up to 15 years in prison anda fine of up to $20,000. He is also charged withinterfering with reporting a crime and aggra-vated assault.
A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.June 13 before Judge Archie Brown.
March is still being held in the WashtenawCounty Jail on bond, which was reportedly setat $250,000 when he was arraigned on chargesMay 13.
He was arrested May 10 after Ypsilanti detec-tives received information that he was at aresidence in Inkster, according to police. TheMichigan State Police second district fugi-tive team assisted by locating him inside theresidence and took him into custody withoutincident.

VAN BUREN TWP. A request by ScottJones, a representative of the BellevilleYacht Club, was unanimously approved bythe Board of Trustees on May 7 to permit the
club to move into the old Moose Lodge and toretain its liquor license.The process for a preliminary application
was skipped and the filed application wasreviewed and approved by the townshipsPlanning and Economic Development andPublic Safety departments.
When asked by Trustee Regina Miller,Jones said the operating hours for the sitehave not yet been determined. The resolutionwill be forwarded to the Michigan LiquorControl Commission for final approval.
In other business, officials unanimouslyapproved the selection of Wieses Lawn Care
to cut grass and weeds at non-township ownedproperties.Residents who fail to comply with township
grass-cutting ordinances are given 72 hours tocomply.
