REPORTS ROUND UP. FEBRUARY 2018. RADIAN GLIDER COMPETITION. FEBRUARY 2018. It was a lovely day, with not too much wind, and a blue sky peeking through the clouds. Somehow, however, this did not translate into great flying weather. There would be a little wind from the west, and then from the north. Then there would be no wind, or it would blow in great gusts from the south. It was all over the place. At the end of the second round a willy-willy swept across the flight line and the aircraft in the air felt safer than those on the ground! Perhaps as a result of the wind, the thermals were elusive. We also saw some amazing sinks, with models just dropping out of the sky. Still, we had fun. If there had been more of us it would have been better, and flying split rounds meant that those in different halves of the round could be flying in very different conditions. There was some good, consistent flying in challenging conditions. Results: First Stuart Sinclair 1177 Second Roy Butterfield 1098 Third Brian Deason 1063 Report by John Newman (C.D.) Thanks to Margaret for the photos and helping with the scoring. Winners are grinners. Great work guys

REPORTSROUNDUP.FEBRUARY2018.

Results:

First Stuart Sinclair 1177 Second Roy Butterfield 1098 Third Brian Deason 1063

Report by John Newman (C.D.) Thanks to Margaret for the photos and helping with the scoring.

CLUBBUSINESS PRESIDENT’S REPORT – FEBRUARY 2018. It has been a dry and hot month and the sheep have enjoyed the shade of our shelter and pit area. We have cleaned this area up and put up some flags that may help keep the sheep out of our covered area. Thanks to Jack Andrew and Gary Schmedje for the mowing of the outer car park. I know that club members will be wishing Terry Passalaqua and Karin Davis a speedy recovery after both having surgery. Next month on March 24th we will have our Night Lights flying. Report by Les Davis. Which wing configuration is on your Aircraft? Why do we need so many different wing configurations, is it for flight stability or maybe it’s for unstable flight like highly manoeuvrable aircraft such as aerobatics or war birds. Ever thought it might be because the designer of high wing lived in the northern hemisphere and the designer of the low wing lived in the southern hemisphere and mid wing on the equator. No that's not right, but every designer would have had a good sound reason for designing it the way they did. Ordered the wrong size propeller or too larger engine size , maybe the under cart was too short or too long, could be for better vision as in high wing or maybe for wing flex were wings straighten out to some extent in flight. This is what makes our sport so interesting, there is always something to do or learn about. In the coming months I will try to find Wing Plans designs and we can look at all the different shapes that have been used over the years, stay tuned.

Bendigo circa 1915. Before World War 1.

That small building bottom left is the register office for soldiers going to WW1, it is also the same place where the Cenotaph is today. This is a part of our celebration of 100 years since the end of WW1, 1918 to 2018, let’s hope the weather will be fine on the celebration days so we can fly our Sopwith Pup and Camel, along with the SE5A and the Avro 504 and more if we can find them. Stay Tuned. Birthday Bash or “Life of Brian”. Whatever it was, its congratulations to our member Brian Deason on his 80th Birthday. Birthdays like this can sometimes last a week, Aeroplane club, Yacht club then the family party, it would be a big week for Brian, and all our club members wish you well. Alan Uren did a bit of research on our Brian which was very entertaining, and found out that Brian once held the speed record in a team’s racer, a control liner named "Shorty" which was designed and built by Brian, but now Brian fly’s electric Tomboy aircraft which are quite slow, in fact very slow. You can see Brian has come the full

circle, from high speed to very slow speed, following this little bit of "This is your life" or maybe it could also been called the "Life of Brian". Brian made a very bold statement, maybe I should get a computer so I can see what I did in my younger days, all those things I have forgotten, so breaking news we got it first, Brian is thinking of coming into the computer world, congratulations Brian!

Ballarat Display Day. 25th February. Is anybody interested in traveling over to Ballarat (Trawalla field approx. 45 Km west of Ballarat on Hwy A8), its usually a great day so take your best bird and have a good time flying. Remember the date it’s this Sunday the 25th of February.

Solar Film is closing its Doors. What a pity there is a lot of scale builders that use Solartex for that Scale finish, the original solar film covering was the covering with the most shrinking ability, but now it’s gone, so there’s no more light weight covering materials, once the stocks run out. Another model manufactory gone, most likely because of foam aircraft. It’s a pity but life goes on.

Hospital Call. Terry Passalaqua was seen leaving the hospital the other day on crutches, yes Terry has had a little op and is now well on the road to recovery. We hope you see you out the flying field soon, so the club sends its best wishes to you Terry for a speedy recovery. Night Fly. 24th March. Saturday Night Fly is on the 24th of March. Can you remember how much fun and laughter we had watching Gary’s Scanner doing low passes and lighting up the ground, or the time he light up the

trees as he

almost miss judged his position and almost parked it in the trees. Our Editor Mr Noel didn't get to fly in the dark because he bent it before the darkness set in which was a pity. Let’s hope he can get a night flight in this year, are you going to have a go this year?

I thpoght Damien’s plane looked magical in the air at night time, with the big loop of LED’s around his engine cowl. It’s not that hard at all, or will you chicken out and just come and watch. It’s worth the drive. Remember it’s on the 24th of March, a Saturday night at about 8 to 8-30pm or when it’s dark enough. Maybe you should chuck in a jumper and the Aerogard spray just in case.

It that’s time again.

Even though it is the last month of summer, the airfield is still very hot and dry. Whenever you go out to fly please make sure it is not a Total Fire Ban Day. I also recommend you take a

hat and a drink to stay hydrated. And please keep an eye out for Snakes. Please also remember our Number 1 rule at the BRCAC which is to Have Fun.

At the end of the day we want all your landings to be a good safe
