The British Healthcare Trades AwardsThe British Healthcare Trades Awards recognises the companies that are making a difference.

There are five awards categories:• Best New Business • Best Product • Best Service • Most Effective Marketing Campaign • Best Contribution to the Community

Independent Living Design AwardsNow in their 21st year, the Independent Living Design awards are recognised by professionals and members of the trade as the flagship award when it comes to highlighting the very best innovative developments in the industry. Manufacturers, designers and retailers are invited to nominate the product(s) they believe have significantly enhanced independent living.

BHTA Lifetime Achievement AwardAs well as the BHTAs and ILDAs, a special award is presented each year to someone who has made what the BHTA believes to be an outstanding and inspirational contribution to the industry. If you know someone who fits the bill, then you can nominate them for the Lifetime Achievement Award. Please email [email protected] for a nomination form.

If so, then now’s the time to think about pulling together an entry for the British Healthcare Trades Awards that will be presented at a celebratory dinner at the end of the year. Our members – almost 500 companies employing over 17,000 people – make or sell healthcare and assistive technology products that help people live more independently.

There are two sets of awards for companies to enter; the British Healthcare Trades Awards and the Independent Living Design Awards (ILDA).

The awards evening will also see the presentation of the BHTA Lifetime Achievement Award.

entering the awardsThe closing date for entries is 16th September 2016 and winners will be presented on 1st December 2016. The entry fee for submissions is £100.00+VAT (VAT invoices will be provided).

A form and an entry fee will be required for EAcH category entered, i.e. if you wish to enter your product for the Independent Living Design Awards and for Best Product and Best Service Awards, please complete separate forms and pay the relevant entry fees.

Once we have received your completed entry form and payment, we will send you a Dropbox link, to which you will need to upload electronic copies of:· This completed entry form;· Your written statement, setting out how you/your nominee

meets the Awards criteria for your category; feel free to include images and company logo in with your statement. Please save your statement using a filename that starts with your company name, e.g. “ABC Mobility statement.doc”;

· Details of appropriate referees who would be willing to be contacted during judging, at the judges’ discretion; and

· Any ESSENTIAL supporting information (this should be kept to an absolute minimum and only included if it is critical to enable the judges to evaluate the product/service).

No paper copies of any entry documents are required; all entries should be made electronically, by uploading them to the Dropbox link provided after an entry form has been submitted.

Awards criteria and rules

British Healthcare Trades AwardsFor each category there will be one award winner and, if appropriate, any number of Highly Commended. Your entry must set out, in no more than 1,000 words, how you/your nominee satisfies these criteria:

Best New Business AwardFor companies (including partnerships/sole traders) that have been trading for no more than four years – the judges will be more focused on entrants’ approach and future potential and be able to demonstrate turnover and profit growth for three years.

Aimed at businesses who can demonstrate commercial success (evidence of the business’s growth and commercial success, or how it’s had an impact on the assistive technology market), planning and approach (how you’ve planned the development of the business and your future aspirations for it – you can if you wish provide your business plan as supporting material), professional and/or supplier confidence and customer satisfaction (quantitative or qualitative evidence of consistent high levels satisfaction of customer satisfaction and no/very few verifiable complaints).

BHTA member companies should also demonstrate evidence of active promotion of the CTSI Code of Practice to customers.

Best Product AwardFor products brought to market in the last three years. This category seeks to highlight organisations that have identified new products and successfully brought them to market or adapted an existing product for a new market. Entrants must be able to clearly demonstrate that there was a demand for the innovation and that the innovation has proved successful in line with the objectives set.

Best Service AwardFor services brought to market in the last three years. This category seeks to highlight organisations that have identified new services and successfully brought them to market or adapted an existing service for a new market. Entrants must be able to clearly demonstrate that there was a demand for the innovation and that the innovation has proved successful in line with the objectives set.

Most Effective Marketing campaign AwardAimed at those who have developed and implemented a marketing campaign that has delivered measurable business benefits such as increased profit, sales, usage or awareness. Marketing activity could relate to the business as a whole or a specific product or service.

Best contribution to the community AwardEntrants should be able to demonstrate their involvement and support of a Charitable or Community organisation or events. This support should be evidenced by written acknowledgement from the ‘Good Cause’ and possibly testimonials from the recipients of the support and any local press coverage or the companies own internal and external communications that also raises the profile of industry. The contribution could be in many different forms but will be proportional to the size and normal trading area of the entrant. Small companies, partnerships or sole traders will have equal standing with larger national companies contributing on a larger scale at a national level. Contributions do not need to be financial, as help and support from owners, managers and their staff to assist the community or community organisation in any form will be considered for this award.

Independent Living Design AwardsYour entry must set out how the product/service satisfies these criteria:

Award criteria DefinitionEnables/assists Independent living involves someone, whatever independent living their level of disability, leading a more

independent life because the product/service results in them needing less care and/or support from other people or agencies.

Improves quality In addition to enabling independent living, the of life product/service must give significant benefits

to the user which improve the quality of life in other ways (eg reduced pain, ease of mobility, improved communication, ability to learn, personal hygiene, caring for others, personal relationships, sexual health, sports, leisure, dignity, self-esteem, etc).

Innovative The commercial application of a new idea, technology or process which delivers a benefit to users. The entry need NOT be new to market (eg a product could have been on the market for many years but when introduced it was innovative and it continues to provide benefits to users in ways which are distinctive, different and competitive).

Accessible The price/cost of the product/service does not make it inaccessible to users.

Ease of use The users for whom the product/service is designed do not find it challenging to understand, to learn, to use and to continue to use the product/service.

Has aesthetic appeal Visual manifestations of the product/service are attractive and appropriate to the user.

By submitting this form, you agree to abide by the following rules for the British Healthcare Awards and the Independent Living Design Awards:i. The decisions of the Judging Panel

are final and there is no right of appeal.

ii. BHTA will not make any contribution to the costs of making an entry nor for attending interviews.

iii. BHTA and the Judging Panel are not obliged to make an award.

iv. The organisation submitting the entry must be a UK organisation (e.g. if a company/LLP must be registered in the UK, including the Isle of Man and Channel Islands). All types of organisation are eligible to submit entries eg businesses, charities, public bodies, sole traders, partnerships etc.

v. Entry is open to organisations which are not members of the BHTA. Membership of the BHTA will not be a criterion for the evaluation of entries.

vi. The product/service must be on the market in the UK and available for purchase.

vii. The ownership of the intellectual property must not be the subject of any dispute.

viii. Entries received after the closing date, 16th September 2016, will not be accepted.

ix. Awards will be announced at The British Healthcare Awards dinner hosted by BHTA on 1st December 2016.

x. BHTA retains the right to publicise all awards including winner, runner up and commended entries and all photographs taken on the evening to promote the award winners in whatsoever media it deem fit for the purpose of publicising the event, its entrants and winners.
