  • Download the application

    First thing to do is to download and install the application.

    Download the latest version of TheBestSpinner

    In your welcome email you are given a download link. If you've already downloaded from that link youcan skip the next step.

    At any time in the future, you can download an updated version of the spinner fromhttp://thebestspinner.com/?action=getlatestversion and then click on the links that says Click This Link

    Please note that downloading a copy of the application is not the same as installing it. You have todownload it first, to your own computer, and then you get to install it, as shown in the next few steps.

  • You'll be asked whether to save, or run the file. I usually save it in case I need it later.

  • The standard Windows file save dialog box should open and you can choose where to save the file.Most people save to their desktop.

    Whatever you do, remember where you save it!

  • After downloading, navigate to the folder where you saved the setup file. You may have to open yourWindows file manager explorer if you didn't save the file on your desktop.

    Then, right-click on the setup filename and a menu will appear (see the following steps, if you're usingVista or Windows 7)

  • In some cases, such as for Vista and Windows 7, you may need to click on Run as administrator toinstall the application.

  • The dialog box that appears next normally requires no changes, but if you prefer not to have a shortcuton the Start Menu you can uncheck the option.

    Click on Next when you're ready to continue.

    The destination folder can be left as it is, or you can change it, if you prefer, to a folder of your ownchoice. For most people just accepting the default setting will be best.

  • If you don't know why you'd want to do change the folder, just leave it as it is and the application willwork fine. Click on Install to continue.

    After literally a couple of seconds, the application is installed and this is what you'll see.

    This bit confuses a lot of people because it happens so fast you think nothing has happened - The BestSpinner installs in literally seconds.

    When you see this, there's nothing left to do. Just click on Close.

    How to launch the application

    On your Start Menu, click on All Programs

  • You'll see a list of programs and folders (usually). Find the folder called TheBestSpinner and click on it.

    If you have a lot of entries in your Start Menu you may have to do some scrolling around to find thefolder.

    Click on the pencil icon entry to start The Best Spinner application.

  • Logging in

    This is the login screen that appears after you've launched The Best Spinner.

    You have to login every time you use The Best Spinner, so that the application can get the latestthesaurus data.

    Your login details are normally your primary Paypal email address and the password we sent you inyour welcome email. If you can't remember your password, or the welcome email got trapped by yourspam filters, you can click on the Forgot Your Password link and the password will be emailed to you- make sure you set up your email to accept email from thebestspinner.com, or it might go into yourspam filter.

    Check the Save My login information if you want the system to remember your details for you. Click onLogin when you've entered your login details.

  • This shows the application immediately after it's opened.

    The big empty window in the middle is the article window, where you will put your original article andthen put it into 'spin format'.

    The quickest way to get going is to open an existing plain text article.

    Click on the open folder icon on the far left of the toolbar, to load your article from a file on your disk.

  • IMPORTANT: You can't open Word documents. The Best Spinner is designed to work on plain textfiles - Word documents are not plain text files.

    A superfast way to spin your article is to click on the 9th icon from the left - Replace everyone'sfavorites. This is where the power of The Best Spinner starts to really shine through.

    You'll have chance to customize the way the application spins your article, before The Best Spinnerdoes its magic.

    Quick tip: make sure you have the correct language selected in the Language bar, at the bottom of theapplication window!

  • The quality level drop-down offers a number of levels with best giving you the best 'quality' spin, butfewer variations, and good being the lowest 'quality' spin, but many more variations. For your firstrun-through I recommend choosing Best.

    For now ignore the Advanced Settings.

    Click on Replace. The application will then analyze your text and will add multiple spin variations foryou, based on the user contributed thesaurus. It may take a minute or two, depending on the length ofyour article and the speed of your internet connection. On a fast machine with a good connection it'svery quick.

  • Click on the Spun Tab to see spun variations of the original article. From this tab you can post to yourblog, create a new spun version, or copy to clipboard so you can take the article into Word, Notepad,Open Office, or wherever you want to use it.

    Every time you click on the New Spin button The Best Spinner will work through the spin options in youroriginal article (remember all that blue text I showed you earlier?) and create a new version for you.You can do that as many times as you want.

    When you're ready to transfer a spun version of your article, click on the Copy To Clipboard button.

  • The Best Spinner confirms that the spun article has been copied. The clipboard is not something youcan see, or directly access, so don't panic! I'll show you how to use it in the next few steps.

    I'm using Notepad2, but you can use Notepad, Word or whatever you like, including online submissionsforms like at EzineArticles.

    If you right click where you want the text to appear, you'll see a menu appear with a Paste option. Clickon Paste. If you prefer to use the menu options of the text editor, or word processor you're using, thenext step shows you how.

  • Click on the Edit menu (there's usually an Edit menu in every text editor or word processor) and adrop-down menu should appear. Click on Paste.

    Your spun text will appear and you can then go on to do whatever you need to do, such as saving,printing and so on.

    After you've done the initial Replace everyone's favorites, you may want to go through the text and tidyit up a little. If there are phrases, or words that do not quite make sense for your article, you may wantto take them out or replace them.

    When you select already spun format text, a drop down synonym box appears, as shown above. Byclicking on the various synonyms offered, you can build up your spin format text easily.

    If you click on an existing spin word (shown with blue highlighting), that deselects the word from yourarticle. That's very useful for automatically replaced words that don't quite make sense.

  • It works on individual words, as well as entire sentences or phrases. The more of your article that youspin, the better, in most cases, so a few minutes spent working on your article will pay dividends laterwhen you publish your content.

    Working on articles you already have.

    Opening an existing article

    To open an existing article into TheBestSpinner, click on the first icon on the toolbar.

    Remember that you can only work with plain text files, so don't try to open a Word document or it willcrash TheBestSpinner.

    The problem with Word files is that they usually contain extended characters - most particularly 'smartquotes'. These characters can cause TheBestSpinner to crash.

    Make sure you use only plain text files. Surprisingly, copying your work from Word into Notepad is notalways enough to get rid of all the extended characters.

    You should also steer clear of bullet points and other text decoration elements. If possible, it's easierand safer to originate your articles directly in Notepad, or other similar text editor, in the first place.

  • The file manager opens and you can select the text file you want to work on.

    You'll probably have to navigate in the normal way to the directory where you store your articles. Youcan double click on the article name to load it.

    Or you can click on it once and then perform the next step. If you have trouble double-clicking at theright speed (a lot of people do), this is an easy way to achieve the same thing.

    You can also load an article into TheBestSpinner by copying and pasting, say from an open Notepadfile, as shown in the next step.

    Identify synonyms

    At the bottom of the TheBestSpinner application window is a button to Identify Synonyms. You mustalways use this before you start working on the article.

    Note that if you use the Replace Favorites option (discussed later), you don't need to use IdentifySynonyms first.

    You can also choose which synonyms are identified. The button on the left, All Synonyms, has a rangeof options if you click on it.

    The options give you the following:

    All Synonyms: Every possible synonym is recognized, which leads to more variety, but it can also leadto more work editing and cleaning up the article.

  • Good Synonyms: This gives you fewer synonyms, but they're more likely to be acceptable, so you'llsave editing time. You won't get quite as much uniqueness though.

    Best Synonyms: This does what you'd expect. It gives you the best quality of word replacement sothere's much less editing to do, but it doesn't give you as many replacements as All Synonyms, forexample.

    Q. How do I choose which one to use?

    A. You'll need to experiment to see what suits your way of working, but generally you should start withGood or Best, until you're used to TheBestSpinner.

  • Phrases that have been recognized are underlined. If a word is in italics, like this, that means there wasno synonym found in our database. As you can see in this sample article there are only a few words initalics - that means that the database recognized nearly all the words in the article.

  • Changing synonyms

    As you work on the article you can spin by choosing from all the synonyms which have been identifiedfor the words and phrases in your article.

    The buttons labeled 1 allow you to step forward or backward through the article, automatically pickingup identified synonyms and giving you a window to choose them from.

    For people who prefer the keyboard you can use Tab to move forward through your article instead ofusing the button.

    Please note that TheBestSpinner is not really designed for you to do the spinning manually in the articlewindow. You'll get the most efficient use of TheBestSpinner by using the Tab key, or the arrow keysshown at label 1 in the picture

    A common support question is what to do if your synonyms disappear, as shown in this image.

    The synonym window is in fact just a normal window. That means it can be resized using your mouse,so if you ever get this problem just select the edge of the synonym window and drag it out to the sizeyou want.

  • When you're dragging the window to size it, you'll see your mouse cursor change to the double-headedarrow crosshair, as marked on this image.

    Hold down your mouse button until you get the size you want and then let go.

  • As you work through the article you can add extra spin text to a word or phrase just by clicking onsuitable words in the synonym window.

    When you've selected a word it will turn blue and be added into your article.

    You see here that we currently have only the word Raw in the title. Let's add some other words.

  • I've added several words just by clicking on them in the synonym window. Notice that they turned blueand that the word Raw has now been spin formatted with all the word options I chose.

    The whole essence of spinning is to go through all the words and phrases in your article and, generallyspeaking, add as many spin variations as you can think of. The spin text has to make sense in thecontext of the overall sentence, so you need to check as you go. The more you can add spin variationto your article (as long as it makes sense), the better.

  • You can manually spin your article some more even if you used the quick-start method mentionedelsewhere.

    The options at the bottom of the synonym window are explored later.

    Settings and Options

    There are a number of options on this page.

    Here, I've enabled Sentence Selection Mode by checking the check box. As it says, it will no longerwork word-by-word. Instead, it will select entire sentences so you can create alternatives. Whether youshould use sentence selection mode depends on how you like to work. You can also work in sentenceselection mode first and then uncheck that option so you're working in word/phrase mode - taking twopasses at it like that can give you very well-spun text quite easily.

    For sentences the synonym window appears a little different than before, but it works the same way.

    Probably in most cases there won't be any synonyms for sentences, but you could, for example, set uppersonal favorites for medical disclaimer sentences.

    The alternative sentence just added has now been spin formatted in the article. You can repeat theprocess as many times as you like to add several alternatives to your original sentence. Remember thatthe more you spin, the better, generally.

    If you click on the Spun Article tab you'll see a single version of your article, after TheBestSpinner hasspun it.

    The version you see is just a single version - TheBestSpinner can produce lots of different versions foryou after a it's spun your article.

    To generate a new spun version, just click on New Spin. Within a few seconds (depending on the sizeof your article), TheBestSpinner spins a new version for you.

    Every time you do that, you'll get a randomly spun, new version.

    There's a little trick for checking your spin format. If you click on New Spin a few times you can usuallyimmediately see whether your spin format text is working well.

    If you find that parts of the article don't make sense, or don't read well, it's almost always because ofspin text that needs a little attention. By looking through a few different spun versions you can get anoverall feel for how well you've spun your article.

    Example: Too and as well are synonyms, but you can't always use as well instead of too.John came too. John came as well.They both make sense.

    If you find things like that on the Spun Article tab you should go back to the Article tab and do a littlemore editing of the spin format article.

    Flat spin

    A flat spin is also a 1 level spin. It's the most basic form of spin.

    If you're working with other systems, websites or applications that accept spin format text, you can usethe output from TheBestSpinner. But if those systems can only work with a flat spin (1 level spin) youhave to either:

    1) Make sure you only create flat spins on your articlesor

    2) Convert your multi-level spin into a flat spin using this tab.

  • What does a flat spin mean? Well, it means that no nested brackets are used. Nested brackets can getcomplicated very fast. TheBestSpinner works with them just fine, but many other systems find it hard tocope with them. So we offer you the ability to take something like this:

    and output something like this:

    {There is an|An} {easy example|indication}

    For most people there will be no need to use flat spin, since you'll be working with the output text filesthat you get from TheBestSpinner. But if you need a simple spin format for other systems, you can getit using this tab.

    Here's what an article looks like after you've finished adding synonyms. You'll see it's color coded toshow you the different levels of spinning. Everyone has different needs so there is no way to give aformula for how much spinning is needed, but if in doubt, do some more spinning! You can definitelyhave too little spinning, but it's hard to have too much.

    Q. What are different 'levels'?

    A. You can nest your spins to make an article that is more unique by spinning words within somethingthat is already spun. So for example:

  • 2 levels of spinning: {This is a {simple|pretty easy} sentence|This is not complex}

    3 levels of spinning: {This is a {simple|pretty {easy|obvious}} sentence|This is not complex}

    You can go as many levels as you need. The more levels the more likely you'll be able to produce tonsof pretty unique articles. However, you can produce good articles even with just basic 1 level spinning.

    If you're new to spinning, just stick with 1 level stuff to begin with until you get used to it.

  • Using the spun articles

    What can you do with the articles you create using TheBestSpinner?

    It's important to understand that TheBestSpinner helps you to produce variations of the article you startwith.

    It does not force you into using them a particular way and it is entirely up to you how you use them. Formost people, the obvious choice will be to add them to article directories.

    You can output a single spun version of your article, or you can output hundreds of different versionsfor use in lots of directories.

    The following steps show you how to save your original article and how to output your spun articles.

    Generate spun articles

    After you've finished spinning your article (choosing synonyms), you can output up to 250 differentversions of the original article.

    How different each version will be depends on how much spinning you've done. The more spinningyou've done the more each article will differ from the others.

  • To output multiple versions of the article, click on the X near the top right of the application toolbar, asshown in this image.

    You'll see a dialog box with a number of settings.

    The first setting is how many versions of the article you want to generate. You can choose up to 250,but in this example you can see that I've chosen 35.

    The article filename prefix is used so you can keep track of all your different articles. When you get tothe point that you have thousands of spun articles you'll be glad you can add a prefix, so that you canhave articles named like this:

    and so on. The articles will be saved into a directory of your choosing, using the filename prefix youspecify, so be sure to make it a clear prefix that tells you what the article is about.

    In some cases you may want all the articles to be saved to a single, large text file. Some bloggingsystems, or other software, may need the articles all in one file. If that's the case, check the box toGenerate A Single Text File.

    The article separator text is used so that your software knows where one article ends and the nextbegins. If you don't use that kind of software, don't worry about this option. If you do use it then youshould know what separator text is required.

    The final option tries to give you the most unique versions possible of the article.

    Select N-th synonym, if checked, works its way through your articles taking the first synonym from eachspin block for your first article, then taking the second synonym from each spin block for your secondarticle and so on.

    If you have a spin block with fewer synonyms than the number of files you're generating, the N-thsynonym option has to revert to random selection. In other words, if you have no more than 3 spinoptions in any of the spin blocks, don't try to generate 200 articles using the N-th synonym option!

    The N-th synonym option is really more for serious power spinners who create substantial spin blocks.

  • Choose the folder you wish to save your articles in.

    Choose a filename - it needs to make sense to you, but TheBestSpinner doesn't really care what youcall it.

    For weight loss articles it would make sense to have something like weightlosseasytips.zip orsomething like that, but if you want to call it file_136-wlet.zip you can (but you'll have to rememberwhat it means!)

    Click on save and TheBestSpinner will generate the articles files, zip them into a zip file for you and

  • You should not that the articles are all in a zip file. In most cases you will need to unzip them beforeusing them on the web, on your blogs, or wherever.

  • When I check inside the demo zip file I made for this manual, I see that there are 35 files, exactly as Irequested in the Generate Articles setting dialor. The filename prefix is test, again exactly as I specified.

    When I check inside the files I can see how much difference there is between each article and theothers.

    I'm using a special file manage utility here, but you can check the articles in Notepad quite easily.They're just normal text files, so they open up in the usual way.

    Using an article

    How you use an individual article depends on the website, system or application that you're adding it to.

    For most people, most of the time, you'll probably need to copy and paste the article text into some kindof online form, as shown over the next few steps.

    If you are using a system that requires some other way of inputting the article you'll need to check thehelp files that come with that system. In most cases it's likely that you'll just select one of the text filesand the system/application will do the rest for you.

    You can't see the clipboard - it's a part of the computer memory, but it will save your article there readyfor pasting somewhere else.

  • Here, I'm pasting the article (which is still on my clipboard), into a new post in a WordPress blog.

    There are several ways to paste in your article and you should choose the one that's most convenientfor you. I list the different ways below.

    Click anywhere in the post body area and RIGHT CLICK. You'll get a menu with an option to PASTE.Click on PASTE and your text will appear.

    Or you can click directly into the post body area and just use the key combination CTRL+V, which alsoPASTES the article in for you.

  • If you want to submit an article to Ezinearticles, or any other directory, you use exactly the sametechnique. The steps are as follows:

    1) Open the article you want to use, in Notepad or another text editor

    2) Select the entire article. You can use the context menu by clicking your right mouse button, or theSelect All option on the EDIT MENU. You can also use the key combination CTRL+A

    3) Copy the article to the clipboard. Use CTRL+C, or use the Copy option on the EDIT MENU. Or youcan right click and select COPY from the context menu.

    4) Go to where you want to submit the article and open up their submission form. Paste in the articleusing the right mouse context men, Edit Menu or key combination CTRL+V, as shown in the previoussteps.

    Whether you're posting to your blog or an article directory, the steps for copying and pasting the articleare the same each time.

    Q. How do I open up a submission form?

    A. You need to do whatever you would normally do when submitting articles. You need to know how todo that whether you're writing your articles by hand, or using TheBestSpinner and it's not something wecan help you with.

    Q. If I'm not sure how to submit an article to a site can I open a support ticket with you and ask you?

    A. If you're not sure how to submit your articles to a directory or article distribution service you shouldask their help/support desk, not us. They will be best qualified to tell you how to use their service.

    If you have a Copyscape account and you've added your login credentials to TheBestSpinner (see Settings and Options), you can easily check how unique your spun article is from withinTheBestSpinner.

    There are multiple settings and options in TheBestSpinner. This section explains what they are andhow to use them.

    Most of the settings can be left alone for most users. We'll cover the most important ones and showyou how they work.

  • When you spin an article, you can choose whether to work with individual words, or to work on wholesentences at a time. Which you do depends on the kind of spinning you want to do, but if you'rewanting a fairly quick way to work in big chunks, Sentence Selection mode is a good way to do it.

    You check the checkbox and TheBestSpinner will select entire sentences for you to provide synonymsfor. Technically, they're not synonyms, they're alternative sentences, but we'll stick with the synonymterminology for these instructions.

  • Using the marked arrow keys on the application, or the Tab key on your keyboard, you can work yourway through the various sentences in your article.

  • Replace Favorites inside spin-formatted text

    If your article is already in spin format - you might have bought it that way, or created a spin articleearlier that you want to do some more work on, you can check the Replace Favorites insidespin-formatted text checkbox.

    If you check this box, you can work on words which are already within some kind of spin. That allowsyou to add even more spin to your article.

    If you uncheck the box, your already spin format parts of your article are "protected" from further spinformatting. You might want to do that if you've already spin formatted the article the way you like andare just making some small changes to it.

    This checkbox only affects the operation of the Replace Everyone's Favorites and Replace MyFavorites. You can always manually add a synonym to a word, phrase or sentence, even withinalready spin format text.

  • Spin level colors

    1) TheBestSpinner allows you to "nest" your spinning, or spin to multiple levels. To make it easier tokeep track of the levels you have, you can use the color-coding to make each level of spin stand outfrom the others.

    It's personal taste as to which colors you use, but for most of us there's no need ever to mess with thispart. Unless you have a particular preference for certain colors, the default color scheme should makethe levels stand out just fine.

    2) You can also, optionally, color words which are not in the thesaurus. Such words show up in italicsanyway, so you may not need to bother with color, but if you want an extra visual aid to locate them youcan use this setting. Words without synonyms won't get changed when you spin, so some users like totake a little time to find alternative words for them, to increase the overall level of spin.

    3) Within a spin, you can make the first term stand out, if you wish. Again, most people won't use this,

    Copyscape credentials

    If you have a Copyscape account and some credit, you can use TheBestSpinner to check your spunarticles against the Copyscape database, to see whether your article will be classed as unique.

We recommendthat you spend a few minutes checking through the article and cleaning up any synonyms that don't fitwhat you're trying to achieve with the article. A little effort at this stage always pays dividends.

    How is this different from Replace Everyone's Favorites?

    Replace Everyone's Favorites does pretty much the same thing, but it takes the synonyms from theuser contributed favorites - it does not take the synonyms from the raw database of the thesaurus.

    In some cases Replace Everyone's Favorites might give you a better result, but you'd have to try it bothways to see which result you prefer.

    How do I use the spun article?

    Spun articles created by using the Auto-Select Synonyms function can be used in the same way as anyother articles you create using TheBestSpinner. You can use them as blog content, submit them toarticle directories, use them in the creation of reports, make web pages from them - whatever youwould normally do with articles that you had written entirely by hand.

    If you're using the final articles on your owns sites and blogs, you can put as many links as you wish,but it may not always be a good idea to put too many. That could make an article look very spammy. If

    There are 2 parts to a link. There is the link itself - the website or web page you want the reader to goto when they click on the link - and the anchor text. The anchor text is sometimes called the keywords.

    Here's an example:

    The text in green is the actual link. That's where your readers will go when they click on the link. In thiscase it would take them to the home page of MSN.com

    The red text is the anchor text, or the keywords. That's the words that will be underlined and clickableon the web page.

    You can spin the link itself, or the anchor text, or even both if you want to.

    Please note: it's outside the scope of the help we can offer to teach you about the concept of datamerge. We can only show you how to perform it using TheBestSpinner. For everything else you'll needto do your own learning.

    It's also fair to say that data merge is probably not for beginners.

    Put it this way: if you don't know why you might want to use data merge, there's a very good chanceyou don't need to use it, at least not right now.

    Data merge is just a way of creating a batch of articles that have certain pieces of text, or information,taken from a file - the datafile. If you only ever needed to change a couple of things you might be betterdoing a search and replace, but if you're writing general articles for hundreds of different towns, forexample, it might well be worth getting used to the data merge facilities.

    Here's an example. Let's say you're promoting a learning initiative that has new drop-in learning centersfor adults in 121 cities. The basic article you'd write is going to be the same for each center. Butspecifics, such as city name and center address would all vary. That's where you could save a ton oftime using the data merge.

    Now you could create 121 spun articles and then go through each one, adding in the details for eachcity one by one. Or you could create a file that looks like the example in the image. It's a plain text fileand I've called it sampledata.csv

    A real data merge file might have hundreds of entries, but the 2 we have will serve as an example.

    This is a very short example article. You'll see the highlighted data merge 'placeholders', marked in red.

    When this article is data merged with the file I created earlier, it will produce an article for each line inmy data file. I only have 2 records in my example file, but the process is the same even if you havehundreds.

    You can have a list of hundreds of different merge records and you can have as many merge fields asyou wish. A merge field is a piece of information that gets replaced, such as the center name, or thecenter manager name in the example merge I've shown here.

    This is limited only by your own imagination. You can use it to write hundreds of articles customized tolocal cities, or states, to promote dental offices, car dealerships, coffee shops, ski centers, musicvenues.. the list goes on.

    This was just a simple example. In reality you would probably also spin the rest of the article, so thatyou get unique articles that are also customized with the merge information.

    Want another idea for using data merge? How about producing a whole series of articles that eachpromote only 1 URL, but with different anchor text (keywords)?

    If you have a number of pages on several websites that all could target certain keywords you can datamerge the keywords and pages into a series of articles. Publish those to the directories and you start toget multiple keyword links to multiple web pages. Here's an example of how the data file might look:
