Right and WrongWho decides what is right and what is wrong? For some the colour of my attire would be right

For some my dressing sense is wrongFor some my skin would be dark

For some character stainedWhat is in between “Right and Wrong”?

That is neither right nor wrongAnd if it is not right then why is it so?

And if it is wrong then why does it feel so right?Who decides what is right and what is wrong?

Is it right of thinking someone? If your heart constantly pines for the forbidden

oneThen it would be wrong if it is impossible to un-

seen them if they suddenly appeared? And if it is so then why have they arrived?

Is it wrong to even glance just once? And if it then what is right?

Who even decides what is right and what iswrong?

If there is a punishment then there should beone to hurt too-

If there are courts to break homesThen there should be something to mend

homesIf filling up pockets with black money is wrong

Then is it right to worship humansAs if they are Gods!

Is it right to fight wars in the name of politics? Then why is it wrong to call out the one who use

it in their favour? And if its right to divide on the name of reli-

gionthen why is it wrong to call it out in proces-

sions? If it is right to love one person with all your

heart then why does it feel wrong? When the one he loves is not me?

And if he is right, then why am I wrong? Is there even something in between

these said “Right and Wrong”?

I’ve a thousand words to verbalise. But they yell, “You’re a woman, you must

realise.”My heavy breaths and sleepless nights.

A caged world and hollow fightsThe society paints my face,

The ownership of man is what my bodyawaits.

The insanity of self-possession rips meapart,

Oh hush! Nurturing opinions utterlybarred.

Mother lathers pastes of turmeric to lightenmy skin,

But who cares about my swollen scarswithin?

I stained my clothes on the very firstmenstrual day,

The memory of mockeries still haunts mytoday.

The woeful plight exists till date,“Spring never comes for women” is what

they say.

Coffee and YouA steamy cup of tempting brew is all you need to ruminate, to have aperspective of the drama around. In a vintage cafe, seated by a foggedwindow, as you whip off the cream you acquire a panorama of life. Younotice a kid as he holds on to his momma’s palm and jumps into thepuddles. The busy commuters gasping for breath, as they hurry back totheir homes and the florist piling up with his day’s business. He offers apink tulip to a little girl. Perhaps, he reminisces about his child, who livesin the countryside. You weave stories, frame imaginations. You observe ateenage couple, as they laugh, giggle and run along the pavement withclasped palms, enjoying the downpour. You get back the tickling aesthesisof your first love. Don’t you? You stare at a bunch of maidens as they crossthe streets with their shopping bags and an old lady as she lays her headon her beloved’s shoulder, under a blue umbrella. You perceive their Loveto be ageless, something that didn’t tarnish in the cruel hands of time. Youseem to engage with the lives of the populace, you ascertain pieces ofyourself treasured in everyone. That’s how spending time alone in the cafehelps; that’s how coffee works.

.- Sankalita Biwas

RetrospectHow can I ever forget those years? Those three years that seemed like aneternity, filled with excitement yet pain, happiness yet sorrow and the partwhere everything seemed beautiful with you yet seemed scary to me. Thejourney came to a halt for the first time and it made me realize howimportant you are to me and things got entwined even more. So much sothat I was ready to lose all of me for every bit of you. Every day the thoughtof you leaving, scared me and I started losing myself to make you happy. You screamed and you shouted but I stood still.I wish I had known that you would leave me anyway. Wasn’t I, even, worthof a simple explanation or was it just a mere waste of time? You chosesomeone else, you had your new favourite source of happiness. Tears rolleddown my cheeks as I lay on my bed, with puffy eyes, the same question,‘why’, nagging inside my head, again and again. But, were you worth it? Were you the ‘right person’? This thought came tome soon aster. Tears stopped. Finally, my inner self caught hold of me andI grew stronger. I hope, one day, you will think of me when everything willnot go the right way and you won’t get the love you need. You will thinkabout the love, I had offered you once and it will shatter you. But even then,I would not be able to see you broken; what seemed to you as a disparity, became my reality.

- Debotri Ghosh.

Through the Hurt and PainThrough the hurt and pain,

The grief and shame,The only thing you need to remember

is that tomorrow is not today. They say, “Never give up”.

They teach you not to give inLet the battle continue

So that the demon doesn’t win.Keep faith in your hopes and dreams,

For dismay is less than you think. So to all you girls, tiptoeing to shun

the light from your unfulfilled desiresTo all those who feel they are losing

the fight,And to those who think there isn’t any

happiness,Take a minute to look up at the sky

And remember that there existssomething greater than You and I.

Just like todayThe sun will burn your shackles

The sun will shine through the cloudsand rain

the fire. Let it remainAnd someday the darkness will dwindleaway.

So hold your head highHigher than those men and women

who didn’t let you try.And feel the warmth of your own

handsHug yourself a little tighter.

It will remind youThat the ‘cannot’s’ and the ‘dont’s’ are

no more.Wipe the moist eyes

And then the velvet sky will remind you That youcould defy the mountains from the moment you

know your own worth,The moment you tried
