What Is Color Photography? Color photography is photography that
uses media capable of representing colors, which are traditionally produced chemically during the photographic processing phase. By contrast, black-and-white (monochrome) photography records only a single channel of luminance (brightness) and uses media capable only of showing shades of gray.
Life In Black, White, And Sepia Before 1840 when the first results of
color photography were made, photos were mainly in black and white, then sepia later on.
These types of photos were MONOCHROME , or in one color.
The Early Experiments In the 1840’s, the attempts to create
photography in color. The "Hillotype" process, which was a
direct color process, was invented by American Daguerreotypist Levi Hill around 1850.
This was not exactly successful but it helped pave the way to success.
More Attempts In 1861, James Clerk Maxwell made a
colored ribbon by the three color additive process. (red, yellow, cyan/blue)
The first color photograph made according to Maxwell's prescription, a set of three monochrome "color separations", was taken by Thomas Sutton in 1861

After The Struggle… In 1935, American Kodak introduced the first
modern "integral tripack" color film named Kodachrome
In 1936, the German Agfa followed with their version of the integral tripack film, named Agfacolor Neu
In 1964, Instant color film was introduced by Polaroid. Exposures were now faster
around 1995-2005, color film was sold in markets by inexpensive multi-megapixel digital cameras
