PRINCIPAL’S REPORT We would like to take this opportunity to thank Baker’s Delight for their provision of a free lunch last Friday. Mrs MacGregor and the office staff did a magnificent job of sorting lunches so that they were delivered well before lunch time.

We would also like to recognise the families who provided food items for this year’s ‘Winter Warmers’ drive and mufti day event. This was an initiative of our school’s Student Representative Council.

Tennis Thanks to our receiving a Sporting Schools grant for Term 3, all students will be able to participate in tennis lessons for 20 minutes per week on either a Wednesday or Thursday free of charge starting in Week 3. All lessons will abide by the appropriate requirements around sports in schools during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Assemblies As we try to return our school to more normal activities, a few changes will be required. Assemblies will be adjusted to reduce the numbers of students attending at any one time. We are trialling alternating between K-2 and Year 3-6 students each fortnight, with a whole school assembly at the end of the term.

An increased number of certificates will be presented at each assembly to accommodate the reduced number of assemblies attended by students. We will also be introducing the presentation of a special certificate that recognises students who excel with honour throughout the term at the end of term assembly.

We need to remain flexible and follow COVID-19 recommendations. Unfortunately, parents and other visitors are not able to attend assemblies. We will be publishing the names of students receiving merit certificates each fortnight along with those receiving the Work of the Fortnight award. Where possible, we intend publishing a photo of award recipients.

Recognising good attendance As part of a revised positive reward system, our school will be recognising student attendance at the end of each term. This term, we will be looking at attendance of students from the start of next week until the end of Week 9. Students with 100% attendance and those having justified absences for five or fewer days during the COVID-19 period. Partial absences will be counted. The first draw will be for those with 100% attendance. The next four draws will be from all tickets. Once the COVID-19 period has passed, we will be limiting the tickets to justified absences of two or less days per term.

Education Week Next week we will be recognising Education Week in our school. The theme for 2021 is Learning Together. During the remote learning phase, we certainly did a lot of learning together.

This year there will be changes to our normal presentations. Unfortunately, we will not be able to hold our full annual special assembly, although we will still recognise staff, students and parents of Armidale City Public School.

WORK OF THE FORTNIGHT

MERIT AWARD

SRC REPRESENTATIVES

1/2JS CLASS NEWS We were excited to have our beautiful children in 1/2JS return to school after the Home Learning Phase. Everyone settled back into school routines smoothly. The semester ahead is looking to be another busy one and we are already well and truly into our learning. Everyone has come back to school freshly rested and keen to work hard and independently with our new seating plan. We have been reading and listening to recounts of the many and varied holiday activities.

In English with Mrs Cook, the children are looking at the amusing farmyard tale called “Click Clack Moo Cows that Type”. They will be using this text to progress onto some Persuasive writing. Mrs Cordingley is starting with” The Jolly Postman” and this will lead into Imaginative writing. As we started our History Unit ‘The Past in the Present,“ the children were intrigued to discover some of the differences in living standards between the olden days and now.

Everyone enjoyed the free lunch and Pyjama Day last Friday.

1/2L CLASS NEWS 1/2L have settled back into our new normal school routine after the home learning phase and are bursting with enthusiasm to dive back into learning!

This term we are looking forward to exploring our History unit ‘The Past and the Present’ and investigating how many things have changed over time. Did you know houses in the olden days were made out of wet cow poo?! In English we are reading ‘The Jolly Postman’ and will be studying this book and its many wonderful features.

The students have been working hard on setting individual learning goals and are keen to challenge themselves and work hard to achieve these.

All students are encouraged to take care of their belongings and ensure these are clearly labelled. We have a number of items being left in the bag room most afternoons. Please remember to collect all your belongings at the end of the day.

We are looking forward to our new learning adventures throughout Term 3 and are very proud of our achievements and resilience displayed during the year so far.
