Stocks of everything listed will be dug this year; but to avoid disappointments please place your orders early. We have in addition 339 other varieties planted down for 2 years, these will re-appear in our 1954 list. If interested in varieties not listed we will gladly quote and dig, or obtain from a reliable source if order is received before 31 August. All these 1281 varieties can be seen growing in our plantings here at Glouces- ter, Virginia. We have approximately 21 miles of daffodils as measured by the row. Unlike everything else the price of daffodil bulbs continues a downward trend; especially the pinks and high priced novelties. We hope our friends plus old and new customers, will realize that if our prices are out of line on some items offered by Dutch and English competitors or those who handle foreign grown bulbs, that we grow our own from imported stocks and pay AMERICAN WAGES to our help and are thus able to guarantee all our bulbs to be true to name. In our Daffodils on Parade, printed in July, we give full descriptions and other valuable information on all new importations (which will have bloomed in the spring) and many of the most popular older types. All bulbs undergo a very thorough field inspection each spring, and again in the fall while in storage by the highly efficient State Inspectors and are certified as free from disease before any shipments are made. The grower of these fine varieties has had many years experience raising daffodils, in- cluding 20 years as farm manager for one of the largest Dutch firms; who at the peak of their activity in this country had over 200 acres planted in daffodils. PRICES Prices as listed are per bulb, and are for top sized doublenose. Do not be led astray by cheap offers which are usually for small inferior bulbs. On quantity purchases we allow the following discounts: 12 bulbs of a variety for the price of 10 — 50 bulbs for the price of 40 — 100 bulbs for the price of 70. Write for quotations on larger quantities. On orders under $5.00 please include 50 cents additional to cover handling and postage and $1:00 on all orders to points west of the Mississippi. A 5% discount in bulbs (our selec- tion) is given on all orders received before 31 July. We start shipping as soon as fall inspection is completed, usually about 15 September. PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR DAFFODILS

The main requirement for success is a well drained soil. They are not happy in a wet spot where water will stand. Any good garden soil is ideal. Cow manure mixed in the soil at, or preferably before planting time, is ideal and will pro-duce blooms and bulbs of unbelievable size. Bone meal is the only safe substitute to use at planting time. A top dres-sing of stable manure is always helpful during the winter months, serving also as a mulch. In the Middle Atlantic states plant bulbs deep enough so the neck of the bulb is covered with 3 or 4 inches of earth after the ground has settled. In the more Northern states 4 or 5 inches is de-sirable, while in the Southern states 2 or 3 inches is suf-ficient. Early planting is advisable so that the root system can develop before cold weather sets in. All questions per-taining to daffodils cheerfully answered.

FALL BLOOMING BULBS

Shipped by us in June ONLY and should be planted immediately. Usually available in Seed Stores during Octo-ber. Planted that late their chance of survival, especially in the north, is slim. Large plantings are to be seen at Colonial Williamsburg.

STERNBERGIA LUFEA — Large bright yellow crocus like flowers on 6 to 8 inch stems appear in mid September. $3.00 per dozen.

LYCORIS RADIATA (Red Spider Lily) — Large cir-cular clusters of bright red flowers on 2 foot spikes appear almost over night in mid September. A long lasting beautiful cut flower for the house, or a stunning item in the garden. The foliage appears in October and is a welcome spot of deep green in the garden all winter, disappearing in the spring. $3.50 per dozen.

Both these items resent transplanting, especially If done at the wrong time, but will increase rapidly if left undisturbed. Radiata is especially touchy and care must be taken when digging not to break the thick fleshy roots which are never dormant, and take a year to replace if broken.

Allow 50 cents for postage unless order amounts to $5.00 or over.

BUSHEL BARGAINS

If not on our mailing list write for DAFFODILS ON PARADE in July, a descriptive list of over 400 varieties, also comments on the 1952 blooming season; we will then have completed digging and know what we can offer in quantity by the bushel, as well as our SPECIAL NAME COLLECTIONS.

LABELS FOR DAFFODIL PLANTINGS. We have what we consider the IDEAL label. The 31/2 by 1 inch zinc name plate has 4 holes through which the two 12 inch aluminum wire legs are inserted. The name plate can never come loose. If names are written on with weatherproof pencil they remain legible for at least 2 years.

Price per doz. postpaid $1.50
