Dear participants and co-workers at the annual conference 2014The annual conference for anthroposophic medicine in 2014 is devoted to the dignity of the human body and is aimed at physicians, nurses, therapists, special needs teach-ers, social workers, early childhood educators as well as teachers working therpeutically.

“God created man in his own image,” it says in Genesis. What does that mean with regard to the way we deal with the human body in diagnosis and therapy? How does it help us to obtain a deeper understanding of matter, of material, the chemi-cal elements, of “substance” – for which the Greeks still had the world “OUSIA” which not only means substance but also essence?

Because the great hall of the Goetheanum is closed due to conversion and renova-tion work, we will probably hire a tent for the morning and evening reflections in the plenary sessions. The lectures, forums and working groups will be replaced by 30 parallel conferences in which the conference theme will be worked on from various aspects. This means that every conference participant can choose one of these parallel conferences for which the rooms in the Goetheanum and adjacent buildings will be available.

The languages spoken in each parallel conference as well as notes about preparation and follow-up can be found in the short descriptions in this brochure which will be updated and supplemented online at http://leib-als-tempel-der-gottheit.org. Anyone who wants translation into their language other than the languages shown is kindly requested to bring a translator with them from their country. We are happy to offer this “translation participant” a complimentary ticket.

Together with the members of the International Coordination of Anthroposophic Medicine / IKAM, responsibility for the annual conference rests with the co-workers of the International Conference of Executive Councils of Anthroposophical Medical Associations who also also formulated the conference theme.

We very much look forward to seeing all of you!

Parallel conferences of the 2014 annual conference

1. Biography work for physicians: the physical basis for the healthy develop-ment of soul and spirit. On the difference between constitutional, soul-biogra-phical and spirit therapy. Diagnosis from a medical understanding of the human being is based on a knowledge of the physical, physiological and endocrinological maturation processes in the first septenniums. Only on the basis of such a archetyp-ally healthy development can the metamorphosed growth forces be freed for the soul and spiritual entity in the human being. The extent to which the first septenni-ums can really form the basis for later spiritual and soul development depends on the karmically inherited, karmically individual and, increasingly, on the epigenetic influences in the small child’s environment. We will consider both these aspects.Literature: Rudolf Steiner, GA 303, lecture 7: The threefold maturation of the small child; Rudolf Steiner, GA 313, lecture 4: The activity of the I in the metabolism; A. Dekkers, Psychotherapie der menschlichen Würde. Ad Dekkers, psychologist, psychotherapist, Bilthoven, NL; Leonardo Marchiori, psychiatrists, Trento, IT; (German, English, Dutch)

2. Asian medical systems and anthroposophic medicine. How can we combine Taoism as the basis of Asian medicine and the anthroposophical image of the human being and integrate them in anthroposophic medicine? The subject for 2014 is the Taoist and anthroposophical organology. Subjects can be repeated as required, such as for example the comparison between the Chinese and Aristoteli-an theory of elements.Literature: Please request texts to support the concepts prior to the conference from the International Working Group for Anthroposophy and Acupuncture: [email protected]. med. Eef Jansen, International Free University-IFU Maastricht, physician in charge, Maastricht, NL; Theresa Trouwee-Wolters, Isis Acupunctuur Leiden, acupuncturist, physiotherapist, Leiden, NL; Doris Lamers, Acupunctuur Amstelveen, acupuncturist, physiotherapist, Amstelveen, NL; (German, English, Dutch)

3. Single-case documentation in accordance with Cognition-based Medicine (CbM). Case reports are a central element of knowledge transfer, for medical discove-ries, developments and notification of important observations. Concepts and methods of case reporting as well as CARE guidelines will be presented. Participants should bring a case report from their own practice which they wish to improve in the course.Literature: H. 5. BREATHING-SPACE for the HEART. A team from the Hamburg and Havelhöhe-Berlin heart schools will structure the course through the interaction of medical and psychological discussion, eurythmy therapy, art therapy and a diet for a healthy heart. Through the corresponding exercises, discussions and catering we want to create an experience of the salutogenic/interdisciplinary approach in the work of the heart schools.Literature: D. Ornish, Revolution in der Herztherapie; F. Bopp, Friedenstab. Die Ha-velhöher Herzschule; A. Bopp, C. Handt, R. Leiß, N. 6. Interdisciplinary cases with reference to the four main organs – with phenomenology of and treatment approach for the four organ systems. The phenomenology of and therapeutic starting points for the four organ systems are introduced and deepened. In a second step they are presented in relation to some medical histories and therapeutic experience. Contributions on therapeutic creative speech, rhythmical massage therapy, psychotherapy and special needs education are presented in relation to the four organ systems.

7. The interprofessional case review. Why-how-what for. The aim is to expand skills with regard to interprofessional consideration of the patient history. How can we learn to understand a person on the basis of a scientifically sound under-standing of the human being? How do we create a joint picture in order to reflect on it in our own consciousness and that of the community and on that basis plan our therapies in reciprocal coordination? We will present, reflect on and extend methodological approaches through research. We will ask a patient to tell us their “history” to train our joint perception.Dr. med. Bernd Himstedt-Kämpfer, physician, Arlesheim, CH; Kirstin Kaiser, thera-peutic creative speech practitioner, Basel, CH; Cäcilia Weiligmann, biographical counsellor, Arlesheim, CH; therapists’ team of the Lukas Clinic, Arlesheim, CH; (German, English)

8. Diagnosing the components of the human being on the basis of the lecture “The invisible person in us” by Rudolf Steiner. Introduction to the basics of a spiritual physiology, experiencing the body as an organ of touch and the diagnosis of the components of the human being; always with regard to the action of the invisib-le person in us. Alternating with preparatory perception exercises and, finally, practi-cing a diagnosis of the component elements of participants (voluntary, of course).Literature: Rudolf Steiner, lecture of 11.02.1923; K. 9. Contributing to a medicine of the four human component elements. Practi-cal introduction to an initial independent perception of etheric processes in the human being. This parallel conference aims to introduce a methodology for the perception of the etheric in the human being. The emphasis is on practical practicing with one another which is led and supported by several lecturers. The practice units

10. Nature and action of the seven planetary metals and their therapeutic indications. Starting from a phenomenology of metals (with demonstrations), we will work together on the nature of the individual planetary metals and, derived from that, their use in anthroposophical therapy. With an exchange of experiences regarding therapy.Literature: Rudolf Steiner, Mysteriengestaltungen, GA 232, Mystery Knowledge and Mystery Centres, Rudolf Steiner Press London, ISBN 1 85584 061 8; Rudolf Steiner, Das Initiatenbewusstsein, GA 243.Albert Joseph Schmidli, pharmacist, Pleigne, CH; Dr. med. Paul Krauer, specialist for internal medicine, Lucerne, CH; (German, English)

11. On the question of brain function. “The so-called motor nerve” as central impediment in an anthroposophical spiritual scientific anthropology. In the context of the threefold nature of the human being, Rudolf Steiner pointed out that from a spiritual scientific point of view the nervous system was “monistic” and also that the so-called motor nerve served the perception of movement. This con-ception is a key prerequisite for a spiritual understanding of the human being.Literature: Rudolf Steiner, Riddles of the Soul, GA 21; W. Schad (ed.), Die Menschli-che Nervenorganisation und die soziale Frage, Vol. I and Vol. II, Verlag Freies Geistes-leben, 1992.Prof. Dr. med. 12. Training for trainers. The intention of this working group is to plan modules II and III of the international teach-the-teacher conferences in 2015 and 2016 on the basis of the experience gained in module I. Trainers from all professional groups can attend who are willing to commit themselves to helping to organise the forthcoming conferences. Please register in advance with the leader of the working group. For trainers from all professional groups.Dr. med. Jan Feldmann, physician, Berlin, DE; Georg Soldner, physician, Munich, DE; (German)

13. The understanding of matter in modern physics as reflected in spiritual science. Ideas about matter have changed in the twentieth century in comparison with “classic materialism”. What perspectives can we obtain from quantum phy-sics for an understanding of matter? Basic statements of quantum physics will be looked at in relation to Aristotelian concepts and references by Rudolf Steiner.Literature: Jos Verhulst, Der Glanz von Kopenhagen, Stuttgart 1994.Johannes Kühl, physicist, head of the Natural Science Section at the Goetheanum, Dornach, CH; (German, English) 14. Asian working group on inner path questions. Representing various Asian countries, we will journey together to identify and confront the shadows and de-mons that emerged out of our individual nation-continent biographies. Gathering the kernel of our heritage through spiritual science we define our I, consciously participating in rebuilding our nations and continent towards a new humanity. For Asian participants. Rosalinda Maglana, Davao, PH (Englisch)

15. On meditative practice and an introduction to the path of the School of Spiritual Science. Self-development supports medical, therapeutic, nursing and other professional work. What is meditating? Concentrating on meaningful content with the thinking. How is that done? Anthroposophy provides many exercises in preparation for meditation to strengthen reverence, persistence and inner flexibility, also eurythmy exercises and exercises for professional practice. We will undertake exercises and meditations, each of us for ourselves, and then discuss them in conversation. Feel free to bring eurythmy shoes.Literature: J. Smit, Meditation; A. Zajonc, Meditation.Dr. med. Madeleen Winkler, general practitioner, Gouda, NL; Hilda Boersma, euryth-my therapist, Driebergen, NL; (German, English)

16. Organ and organisational development – the development of the body at the level of social organisations and communities. Social imagination and social techniques – we need both to survive. Content: the seven levels of an organisation; developmental phases of organisational development; understanding one’s role as a manager and the four management skills; dialogue-based management and col-laboration; tools and instruments for social development. For persons in positions of responsibility with management tasks.Literature: K.-M. Dietz, Dialog - Die Kunst der Zusammenarbeit; F Glasl, Professionel-le Prozessberatung; O. Scharmer, Theorie U; Rudolf Steiner, lecture of 29.10.1921 – Life stages as planetary stages, and the so-called “bridge lecture” of 19.12.1920.Uwe Urbschat, Head of Corporate Culture & Identity, Weleda Group, Weleda AG, Schwäbisch Gmünd, DE; Dr. med. Jürgen Schürholz, physician, Filderstadt, DE; (German)

18. The foundations of ageing in the anthroposophical understanding of the human being. There are biological, biographical and social aspects to ageing. Beyond that, an anthroposophical gerontology extends life after death as well as reincarnation and karma into an “excarnation science”. We will study the archetypal image of individual ageing and its crises. The starting point is references by Rudolf Steiner with regard to ageing and the personal and professional experiences of the participants.Literature: Rudolf Steiner, Vom Alt-Werden, Studienmaterial aus dem Gesamtwerk, Gisela Gaumnitz (ed.), Verlag die Pforte.Rolf Heine, International Forum for Anthroposophical Nursing and Nurses, Filder-stadt, DE; Norbert Zimmering, social education worker (Dipl.) (FH), certified media-tor (RUB), Fröndenberg, DE; (German)

19. How can we use warmth to help to develop the I? “We live and weave in warmth”, Rudolf Steiner. Warmth is present everywhere in the world in which we live and permeates the spheres of our existence in a differentiated way; thus it also pulses through the human life processes in the temperature of the blood. Using

the example of various therapeutic forms to pre-empt and counter the diseases of our time, we will study how the inner warmth and light process in humans stimula-tes activity when invoked, thus making its metamorphosis into the soul life easier.Dipl. Ing. M. Sc. cand. Ute Hild, non-medical practitioner, social therapist, Winter-bach, DE; (German)

20. Bringing up and supporting the health of the developing human being. As a result of the increase in extra-familial care of children, sometimes starting not long after birth, the question arises more urgently as to the aspects that need to be considered in terms of our understanding of the human being, demanding the development of a pedagogical and medical network to support the healthy deve-lopment and dignity of the child. The AKK (Small Child Working Group) will present its basic findings for a care concept, developed in the past year, and would like to test and discuss them against the background of the experiences of participants.Literature: Rudolf Steiner, The spiritual guidance of man and humanity, GA 15; J.
