These will help you and your family work through the book of Acts and discover more about Jesus’ mission as carried out by his people, by the power of the Holy Spirit. We realise that the book of Acts is a long book - 28 chapters in all. As such, there will be some parts of the book that will not be directly looked at in either the Kids’ talks or the ‘Digging Deeper’ Family Devotions. If you and your family wish to read through these extra sections, then please feel free to do so! THE BOOKOF ACTS

Acts Chapter 12

Over 10 weeks Quiz Worx Home Delivery is exploring the Book Of Acts.

Acts is the second volume of Jesus’ ministry, as recorded by the historian Luke.

Jesus’ earthly ministry is recorded in the gospel of Luke up until the time of Jesus‘ death and resurrection. The second volume, which we call “Acts”, continues to record the ministry of Jesus. Yet that ministry is now done through his people, by the power of the Holy Spirit (see Acts 1:1-8).

Acts 1:8 sets the focus of the book. Through the power of the Holy Spirit the apostles (and those who would follow their teaching) were to be witnesses of Jesus, starting in Jerusalem, but then moving beyond that to Judea, Samaria, and ultimately to the ends of the earth.

The teaching of the book of Acts is that through his death and resurrection, Jesus is the person whom God has appointed as king of his kingdom. Jesus is the Risen King! And he has a mission. Jesus’ mission is that people from all around the world would hear that Jesus is the king. And Jesus’ mission is that people from all around the world would accept Jesus as their king.

Through our weekly Kids’ Talk videos we will look at how Jesus’ mission began to spread despite the things and people who tried to stop it. Each Kids’ Talk video has accompanying discussion questions for you to work through with your children.

We have also provided some further ‘Digging Deeper’ Family devotions.

As we journey through Acts together, we are going to see again and again that the mission of the Risen King Jesus cannot be stopped.

Let’s pray that we can be part of Jesus’ unstoppable mission.

Acts Chapter 12

In this week’s Kids’ Talk video, we see a battle between two kings - King Herod and the Risen King Jesus. King Herod wanted to stop the mission of the Risen King Jesus. But Acts 12 helps us see that the mission of the Risen King Jesus cannot be stopped, because Jesus is the only REAL King!

1. How did King Herod try and stop Jesus’ mission?

2. Which king is more powerful - King Herod or King Jesus? How do you know?

3. How do people try and stop Jesus’ mission today? How should you respond to ......them?

PrayThank God that even though people try and stop his mission, Jesus’ mission cannot be stopped.

Thank God that we can be a part of Jesus’ mission by telling people about the Risen King Jesus.

Digging DeeperFamily Devotions

How to use ‘Digging Deeper’ for the Book of Acts. To help you in your journey through Acts, each week we will provide three devotions. We encourage you to read these passages with those in your household at a time that suits, and use the questions to guide you as you talk and reflect on Jesus’ unstoppable mission in the Book of Acts.

We looked at a number of different Bible translations when creating these questions. So feel free to use any version as you work through them with your family.

Memory Verse Challenge “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” That is the most important question anyone could ask! Sing and dance along with Chrissy and some Quiz Worx team members‘ kids as they share the amazing answer to this question in a fun, catchy and colourful memory verse song! You can find the Memory Verse Video in the Acts 12: Jesus is the REAL King folder on google drive, or you can watch it at https://youtu.be/W6HWC7yhDR8

Something to rememberAs we journey through the Book of Acts, we will continue to see that the mission of the Risen King Jesus cannot be stopped.

As you look at each passage, keep asking:a) What could stop Jesus’ mission?b) How do we see these obstacles overcome?

Devotion 1 - Acts 11:19-30Last week we saw in Acts 11:1-18 that all people are welcome to accept Jesus as their King. Acts 11:19-30 tells us that many people from all different backgrounds accepted Jesus as their King. Because Jesus’ mission is for everyone!

1. How did people in Antioch hear about Jesus?2. Why do you think Barnabas and Saul met with the church?3. How can we encourage one another to keep trusting Jesus with all our hearts?

PrayIf you have your map from Week 1, mark the places you have read about in this passage.

Thank God for those who accepted Jesus as their King in these places.Pray for Christians there today to keep trusting Jesus even when people try to stop them.

Devotion 2 - Acts 12:1-17 (if with younger kids, read verses 5-12)King Herod wanted to stop the mission of the Risen King Jesus, so he tried to stop the believers from speaking about Jesus. But Acts shows us that the Risen King Jesus is the only REAL King and he is always in control!

1. What did King Herod do to try and stop the believers speaking about Jesus?2. How did the other believers show that they were still trusting Jesus even when ......King Herod was trying to stop Jesus’ mission? (Hint: look at verses 5 and 12)3. How does it make you feel knowing that Jesus is still in control even when bad ......things happen to his followers?

PrayThank God that Jesus is the most powerful! Do you know anyone who is suffering because they follow Jesus? (If you don’t then Open Doors is a good site to look up). Pray that they will remember that Jesus is still in control and so they can and should trust him.

Devotion 3 - Acts 12:18-25King Herod expected everyone to do what he said. In fact, he wanted the people to treat him like the only real King! But the Risen King Jesus is the only REAL King and he deserves all praise.

1. What was Herod doing wrong?2. Did this stop Jesus’ mission spreading?3. Praising Jesus is celebrating who he is and what he has done. Write down all the ......things you can praise King Jesus for.

PraySpend time praising Jesus for who he is and what he has done!

Ask God to help you to show others that the Risen King Jesus is the REAL King who deserves all praise.
