Amos 1:1 The words of Amos, one of the shepherds of Tekoathe vision he saw concerning Israel two years before the earthquake, when Uzziah was king of Judah and Jeroboam son of Jehoash was king of Israel.

TekoaTekoa was the native place of Prophet Amos.Tekoa is a village 12 miles approx 16 km south from Jerusalem. Even today Tekoa Exist in Israel south of Jerusalem.

It is very interesting to note that even today there is a town called Tekoa just like in the BIBLE.What's even more interesting is that there is a street named after the prophet Amos called AMOS STREET

This is proof that there really lived a prophet called Amos in Israel and that the Bible is True.

Interesting FactsFrom this verse we can see a picture of the Prophet Amos.Amos was a Shepherd from Tekoa who sounded the Prophetic Trumpet about the coming destruction against the northern Kingdom.

Amos 1:2 He said:The Lord roars from Zion and thunders from Jerusalem;the pastures of the shepherds dry up, and the top of Carmel withers.

Amos 1:3 3 This is what the LORD says: For three sins of Damascus, even for four, I will not relent. Because she threshed Gilead with sledges having iron teeth, 4 I will send fire on the house of Hazael that will consume the fortresses of Ben-Hadad.

What are the Four Sins of Damascus?Damascus is the capital city of Syria.Hazael is king of Syria. (2Kings 13:3)The sins of Damascus are the wickedness that king Hazael did against Israel (2 Kings 8:12) Set fire to their fortified places.Kill their young men with the sword.Dash their little children to the ground.Rip open their pregnant women.

SYRIA and ISRAELIsrael also regarded Syria as an enemy state and generally prohibits its citizens from going there.There have not been diplomatic relations between the two countries since the creation of both countries in the mid-20th century.Efforts have been made from time to time to achieve peace between the two states, but without success.

Two young Jewish boys were killed on May 9 in the town of Tekoa, Israel, located about 12 miles south of Jerusalem. The boys were playing in a cave. Later they were found with their hands tied, stabbed and stoned to death . The killers had smeared their blood all over the cave.
