    July, 2009:

Times Of India published an article on the 21

    st

of July, 2009 abouthow our oil minister, Mr. Murli Deora gives an interview reacting to Anil Ambanisallegation that the oil ministry is favouring Mukesh Ambani in the dispute relatingto the Andhra Offshore, this happened even as the Petroleum Secretary Mr. R SPandey said that the Government has not let neither Mukeshs nor Anilscompany off the hook for striking a private deal over something which is aGovernment asset.

Mr.Deora told the Times of India I am personally appalled and disgusted at howtwo brothers are fighting over something that does not belong to them. Naturalgas belongs to the Government and is a public asset just like Uranium or coal oriron ore. As a minister of the union of India, my interest it to protect nationalinterest and not any private interests. The Petroleum Secretary also commented on the situation to the Times of Indiasaying, The governments SLP (Special Leave Petition) requesting the court todeclare the demerger gas-sharing MoU between RIL and RNRL as null and voidneither favors nor lets any entity off the hook. Thats why both entries have beenrespondents. Lets wait for the response see what they have to say on why theyentered into a private MoU for something that did not belong to them.

In fact on July 15 Anil sent a letter to the PM, Mr.Manmohan Singh, complainingabout the oil ministrys favouring RIL by intervening in a commercial disputebetween two entities. He said he was not asking for the ownership but hisentitlement for RILs share.

Some ministry officials have said that the SLP was filed as a last resort. TheAndhra offshore field can produce up to 100-120 mcmd while the MoU had stated80 mcmd. The 40 mcmd increase in the first phase is to be divided between RILand RNRL in the ratio of 60:40 as well as set their own price.

    Joseph Fritzl.Publication:Times of India: Mumbai

About five months have passed since the Times of India published the story of amentally unstable father in the small town of Sankt Poelten in Austria. 73 year oldJoseph Fritzl has been found guilty by a jury in his Austrian hometown ofenslaving his daughter in a dungeon for 24 years and having an incestrelationship with her during which he fathered 7 kids with her. Doctors whochecked Joseph said that he had to spend his life in a mental institute and thatMr. Fritzl knew that he had an evil side and also admitted that he born to rape. Mr.Fritzl at the start of the court proceedings had denied murder and enslavementbut changed his plea after sitting through 11 hours of video testimony of hisdaughter which was provided for the court. As the judge read out the sentencethe only reaction from Joseph was I accept the verdict.

Maybe this 73 year old man actually showed remorse or maybe he just said hisfinal words before the verdict was announced to gain sympathy from the jury,Im sorry from the bottom of my heart, unfortunately I cant change anythingnow.

The murder charge was about one of the 7 kids that Mr.Fritzl had fathered whomhe did not try helping despite knowing that the child was mortally ill.

Psychiatrist Adelheid Kastner let the court know that Mr.Fritzl was emotionallystunted and posed a danger and should be held in a mental facility. Thepsychiatrist also let the jurors know that Joseph was aware of his evil side whichhe had partly under control, But as soon as he loosens his group, everythingerupts out.

Joseph was always the man to rule his family with an iron fist and locked hisdaughter up first when she was 18 back in August 29, 1984 because he says thatshe had joined an obscure sect.

Of the six remaining children whom Joseph fathered with his daughter threecame to live with him and his wife, 69 year old Rosemarie, while the other threelived in the dungeon never getting to see any daylight.

This case broke in April 2008 after the eldest child 19 year old girl named Kerstinfell severely ill and which resulted in Elizabeth begging her father to take Kerstinto the hospital.

There are many reasons which make a person get stress. In cases of women, theyface a lot of internal conflict when they are working. They bear a guiltyconscience of keeping their homes on the backburner because of theirprofessional commitments.

The signs of stress are fatigue, recurrent minor ailments, insomnia, loss ofappetite, and so on. It disturbs a person to concentrate ones works, activities. That is why stress must be controlled. Proper time management to avoid last

minute confusions, sharing household chores with other members of the family, and avoiding carrying work home are few remedies for cold shouldering workstress.

Women should learn to curb their guilt factor. They should accept the fact thatthey are not super women. They also need to be more assertive and ask for helpfrom her spouse to manage home. Introspection is another significant way of de-stressing. Also, never relate happiness to the outcome of a task. Instead, focuson the effort.

Why are students committing suicide?Times of India, Mumbai

Jun 8, 2006: The article reflects the case of psychological trauma that the

students face at the time of declaration of the results because of unrealisticexpectations by their parents and the peer pressure of the society.

Unable to handle his failure in the HSC exams, Vaibhav Murbadkar ended his lifeby throwing himself in front of the railway tracks three days ago. Two other girlsin the city too attempted suicide after they realized they hadnt cleared the exams.Fortunately, they survived and are recuperating in hospital. In recent years, thenumber of students resorting to such extremities, unable to cope with theirfailure, has shot up. Its not just the case of an HSC or a post-graduation student, but there have been instances of school children, in their seventh and eightstandards, whove attempted to kill themselves.

Quite often, suicide is attempted on an impulse, experts say. Theres a suddenfeeling of total desperation, says psychologist Archana Samarth,Who has been counseling students. At that point the person feels there is no

way out of the situation. He feels I am alone. I have to face the world. How will I do that? Ive let my parents down. I dont want to face anybody. Andthats when he takes the extreme step.

The term failure has to be redefined in the minds of teenagers. Just because aperson has not passed an exam or secured lesser marks than expected does notmake him a failure. That apart, parents need to be careful while handling their

kids. There are times when they compare their kid with others, not realizing theyare further lowering their kids self-esteem. The parents think motivating them, but thats negative reinforcement. That should be avoided. Better communicationis the key," she says.

Wife bashing a reality even in the 21stcentury.

    Times of India, Mumbai

2nd Aug, 2009: The Times of India recently published an article on wife-beating itwas written by Vinita Dawra Nangla, it is a true story and it describes her closefriends sisters horror about being beaten by a drunken husband almost everynight.

The article throws light on the issue that wife bashing is a reality even in this 21stcentury. It also explains us that in India the women are so very much concernedabout the image of them as well as their families that in spite of being beaten somuch and being abused and harassed physically as well as mentally the womenis not ready to end the marriage. All she was looking for was a serious rap on her

husbands knuckles; someone who would drill some sense into his brain andmake him realize how he was jeopardizing their otherwise good life together.Vinita writes that there were two things that really bothered her about Sanyuktasattitude, one was the fact that she still held on to the hope that life would changeand second that she felt humiliated by the experience and didnt want anyone toknow what happened, to which Vinita exclaimed saying that the humiliationshouldnt be hers but to the animal to whom she was married to.

Vinita writes in the end that the true touchstone of our character is the way wetreat people weaker to us and by the way we behave when we imagine that no oneis watching. Why is it that we let our anger go against those who cant retaliate?

Or unleash the demons within us when we imagine no one is looking.

As Salyut asks plaintively, Why is that when he comes back drunk, he beats meand ill-treats me; why doesnt he hurt himself?
