12/12/13 Winter/Spring 2014 Payment Due Date

Faculty/Staff – please remind students you are interacting with about the following Winter/Spring 2014

payment due date of 12/12/13.

Students should choose a payment option before that date or their Winter/Spring class

schedule will dropped. Below are their options:

Pay your semester charges in full via your Pipeline account.

Financial Aid recipients must check their Pipeline account and submit any additional information

requested by the deadline. We recommend that you visit Student Financial Services in Danvers or

Lynn if you have questions about your outstanding financial aid requirements.

Sign up for the NSCC Payment Plan through your Pipeline account. To do this you must pay 25%

of the balance due as a down payment in addition to the non-refundable $40.00 payment plan fee.

That first 25% is due by 12/12/13, the remaining 3 payments will be due on the 12th of January,

February and March.

Submit a letter of intent or purchase order from their employer or other organization, e.g. Mass

Rehab or Workman's Compensation, if they are paying your semester charges.

In addition, students enrolled in 9 or more credits for the first time this academic year, must

either waive or pay for their Student Health Insurance for the Winter/Spring or their classes

will be dropped. Students who waived their Health Insurance in Fall 2013 do not have to

waive it again for the Winter/Spring semester.

Please encourage students with questions to stop by our offices on either the Lynn or Danvers Campus.

They can also contact us at [email protected] or by calling 978-762-4189. Good luck with the

remainder of the semester and enjoy the upcoming holiday break.

--Stephen Creamer, Dean of Student Financial Services

Kudos Korner - Congratulations to Professor James Chisholm whose show

"Persistence of Form" opened on November 22 in New York City at the Agora Gallery.

The exhibit will run November 22 - December 13 with a reception Thursday, December 5, 6-8 pm.

Learning Management System Search Process - Since the acquisition of the ANGEL Learning

Management System by Blackboard, Inc. in May, 2009, it has become increasingly evident that

Blackboard’s business priorities will continue to be focused on its flagship product, Blackboard Learn, and

that the continued support and future viability of the ANGEL platform is uncertain. Accordingly, Academic

Technology and the Distance Education Committee are collaborating on a search process for a new LMS

vendor in the coming year.

The Distance Education Committee will serve as the core evaluative group to conduct initial interviews of

vendors from the short list of major industry players. The selected vendors will in-turn schedule

presentations to the greater NSCC community and provide access to their product for any and all who are

interested. The core Committee will be augmented with additional representation to broaden subject and

technical expertise in Math, Health Sciences, and Information Systems to comprise an LMS Evaluation

Task Force

Vendors will be asked to present to the augmented group, who will ultimately select finalists to return for

presentations to the larger college community in the spring. The initial list includes:

Blackboard

Instructure Canvas

Desire2Learn

Adrenna

Each vendor will be asked to provide a ‘sandbox’ where their platform can be experienced first-hand.

After final presentations and subsequent consultation with members of the NSCC community, the next

LMS will be selected by the end of the spring semester. Transition will begin over Summer and Fall 2014.

The timeline to complete transition will depend on the variables affecting training, orientation and course

conversion.

Please contact Michael Badolato, Dean of Academic Technology and Distance Education Committee co-

chair, Larry Davis, Liberal Studies Faculty and Distance Education Committee co-chair, or Andrea

Milligan, Director of Instructional Technology and Design and LMS Task Force Coordinator, with any

questions or concerns regarding this process.

WHAT A GREAT WAY TO START YOUR WEEK!

College Instructional Technology Study- Last year, the Instructional Technology and Design

(ITD) team from the Academic Technology Department launched Phase 1 of the College Instructional

Technology Study (http://goo.gl/mUZ7u). We had the benefit of hearing from more than 75% of the

academic departments. This has been a very successful experience and we are greatly appreciative of all

the feedback from faculty and administration. Before moving into Phase 2 of the project, we wanted to

reach out to the community to share our findings and, even more important, some of the actions and

plans we will be implementing based on faculty input. The action plan can be found at

http://goo.gl/B6gsYR.

We encourage you to take a look at some of the activities AT is pursuing on your behalf and please let us

know if you have questions, thoughts, or further input on the project as a whole. Please send any

comments or thoughts to Lance Eaton at [email protected].

Thanks!

December 5, 6, 7 & 8 – Chemical Imbalance - The

Performing Arts Council of North Shore Community College (NSCC)

presents Chemical Imbalance (a Jekyll and Hyde Play) by Lauren

Wilson. Performances will be held at Lynn Arts, 25 Exchange St.,

Lynn on December 5 & 6 at 7p.m. with matinee showings on

December 7 & 8 at 3p.m. General admission is $7, $5 for students and seniors (with ID). Parental discretion is advised.

Directed by NSCC’s Performing Arts Coordinator, Matthew Woods,

this dark and comic send-up of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic

tale of terror takes a satirical swing at conventional Victorian

notions of gender, class and identity.

In fog-bound London, repressed impulses are ready to burst their corsets as Dr. Jekyll’s experiments in the nature of evil threaten to reveal the bloody hands beneath the gloves of the British Empire.

Everyone will love this fast-paced romp about men and women walking the line between old-fashioned respectability and utter depravity, and between the twin specters of good and evil.

For more information or to RSVP, contact Matthew Woods at 781-593-6722, x6228 or at [email protected]
