The Fountains Information Line aka FIL, is a dedicated phone line

that provides an account

of each day's activities in

our community. The

activities are

recorded each day by a

group of very generous

resident volunteers. You

can hear these activities

by calling 239-4116,

Monday through Friday.

April is abundant with

extraordinary events! Roza

Simkovich returns with her

four part series, The Challenges

of The New Cold War,

beginning Tuesday 4/2. We

venture out to lunch at one of

Tucson's newest eateries, the

American Eats Company on 4/4.

Our Shabbat service will be

held on Friday 4/5 this month.

We welcome back Lisa & Diane

on 4/11 for an evening

Celebration of Music. Easter

Sunday Buffet will be followed

by a concert with Scott McFadden. We are hosting a Food Truck

Extravaganza on 4/17 with delicious food and The Ocotillo Rain

& Thunder band performing. Our Passover Seder officiated by

Cantor Janece Cohen is on Tuesday, 4/23. On Thursday, 4/25,

OPERA 101, presents Carmen . We welcome back Vivian Weede

and the talented mezzo soprano Korby Myrick as Carmen, tenor

Francisco Renteria, as the ill-fated Don Jose and baritone Mark

Hockenberry as the dashing bullfighter, performing in the Lobby.

LIVING WELL

We all need balance in our

lives, literally! But having good balance

involves more than you think.

It is the integration of sensory and

motor systems, including: vision (to

perceive direction and motion), the

vestibular system in the inner ear (which

monitors motion and provides

orientation clues, such as which way is

up) and what’s called “proprioception”

(the ability to sense where your body is

in space). We also need good muscle

strength and reaction time to stay

steady.

As older adults, we often have poor

balance due to loss of muscle strength

and joint flexibility, as well as reduced

vision and reaction time. Also, the risk of

inner ear dysfunction, which can throw

you off balance, increases with age.

Here’s the good news, you can take

steps to improve and maintain your

balance.

Exercise: Walking and strength training

helps improve balance. Any activity that

increases strength, especially in your

lower limbs, as well as agility, is

worthwhile. You may want to try one of

the Tai Chi classes offered weekly. Have

your balance checked. Look for the

Balance Clinic offered in partnership

with Bayada here in our community.

There are many ways to improve your

balance and thus reduce the risk of falls.

Try one of the many classes offered

here, Balance Tai Chi, FUNdamental

Movement, Walk for Life and our Chair

Yoga.
