Dear all, Who would have thought that another year of exhibitions would be over us already in what seemed like such a fast year. And thankfully, another successful one, which we hope we can reflect in your upcoming end of year bonuses. We were delighted to share with you a few weeks ago our expansion plans and have summarized some of those in this edition of The BUZZ. Hopefully this will allow you to really digest what will be going on in the coming months and to also identify the areas of opportunity that will present themselves. Already we are seeing new faces in the office and beginning to reap the benefits of having additional colleagues on board. It is now an important time to ensure our new colleagues are welcomed and have the resources on hand for a successful transition. Soon we will be revealing the plans for our end of year party (even bigger and better than last year’s!). We will announce the Employee of the Year Awards across the subsidiary as well as the next charismatic leader of the year. We look forward to adding to the Wall of Fame at Reception, which gets lots of attention and interest from visiting clients. While the company expands and we evolve to two floors of No. 1 Sheikh Zayed Road, we do hope that we can still keep the same friendly atmosphere and open door policy. Communication amongst departments is becoming increasingly important so we urge you to make that effort to pop by people’s desks, pick up the phone, or meet in the canteen to stay abreast of office happenings. Dear all,

Who would have thought that another year of exhibitions would be over us already in what seemed like such a fast year.

We are in yet another exciting phase of development and as ever, hope that you can all grow and develop with us.

Warm wishes,

A 10% growth is anticipated for Intersec which has just reached its 1,000 exhibitor milestone for the first time. The show is growing steadily across all of its product areas and government support is increasing. 2014 will kick off with the annual Intersec press conference and we look forward to beginning the new year with a positive bang, reminding the market of our powerful presence.

Interesting fact: Messe Frankfurt is in the business of geo-cloning i.e. bringing an exhibition brand concept to another region, with a good example being Automechanika with the mother show held in headquarters in Frankfurt. Intersec is a unique case, because the show originated here and the Dubai edition is considered the mother show.

First time exhibitors from Ireland, Latvia and Ukraine highlight the exhibition’s power at creating business opportunities for even the smaller players in the market. A marked increase is noted in European presence in general:

France = 154% larger

Greece = 44%

Italy = 38% Spain = 90%

There are even some European exhibitors participating in the Middle East edition but not involved in the Frankfurt edition in January such as Lamy and Durable

This show is fast becoming one of the world’s largest beauty expos. We are getting close to elbowing Cosmoprof Bologna out of the way in the 2013 edition and we will soon be in a neck to neck race with Cosmoprof Hong Kong. After an early trip to Hong Kong for Cosmoprof, Benjamin is settling into the role and enjoying working with what was previously an all girls’ affair.

The team was delighted to welcome Charri May as its 2nd Team Assistant and as expected, she is settling quickly into her new role. Gazi, after recovering from a sports’ injury in the late summer, is now struggling to catch up on sleep with a new addition to his family. We hope to see Nestlihan and Hamza Kaan visit the office soon.

The next edition will occupy at least 12 halls at the trade centre (Halls 1 to 8, Saeed Halls 1 to 3 and Trade Centre Arena). Many of the country pavilions have already confirmed and the team is confident for another successful edition in 2014.

It has been decided to run Hardware+Tools Middle East on the same dates as Automechanika Dubai once more so the 2014 edition will take place from June 3rd to 5th next year. As revealed by Jasmeet recently it sounds like the targets are pretty tight for this one for 2014 with less floor space than actually required to meet the tar-get. This could be interesting.

Ladies and gentlemen, this show is on fire! We have exceeded the levels we were enjoying in 2005 and 2007, in pre-recession days. The team even got booking commitments on the show floor for the 2015 edition – enough said! Well done Jasmeet and team, the results and feedback speak for themselves.

Similar to Materials Handling, not the easiest of shows to continually push, but we closed out this show on a high note. The launch of the Light Middle East Awards was a big success and feedback assures that we will host it again next year with even more categories.

This is a show with its own challenges, and 2014 will definitely prove this. Light India has launched as a bi-annual event and will take place in October next year. Off the back of high spirits and strong feedback we are sure we can continue to make something of this exhibition.

Did you know? • Nearly a third of all sales for the Messe Frankfurt Group come from abroad

• More fairs are staged abroad than at our home base in Frankfurt

• When our expansion is completed we will be running at a staff level of 50% more than where we are today

As you know, we have been looking at expanding our subsidiary for a few years now. During this time we have discovered that the exhibitions landscape is saturated. As well as this, the opportunity for acquisition is unlikely. This meant that we had to look at other ways to expand our subsidiary.

As you all know, we have had exceptionally strong growth in recent years. With our larger exhibitions Intersec, Beautyworld and Automechanika we feel there is still potential for growth. And why limit this growth to the areas we are already concentrating on? This is why we are bringing on additional staff to explore other avenues within the sector. So with Beautyworld, for example, Benjamin is concentrating on new business prospects only, with a particular emphasis on growing the raw materials section. We are sure his addition will fit the team nicely.

As we expand our sales teams, back office support is also required. In 2010 we took over the International Sales for the region, we launched a Conferences Division, a Travel Desk and the Fairconstruction initiative. These are now contributing to the bottom line, but without extra resources their ultimate success would be stinted.

We all know the successful components to a trade fair, next to a suitable venue and logistics, are to have an exhibitor base ready to invest and significant visitors willing to invest the time and money to travel to the event. And this is where the marketing team comes in. By increasing our exhibitions in size, we will need a corresponding increase in the number of relevant trade visitors and so additional marketing support is required.

The Future With such an aggressive expansion strategy, it is clear that there are both risks and opportunities. The strategy will be evaluated on a regular basis and where necessary amendments will be made. The strategy aims to:

• organically grow the subsidiary by developing existing exhibition profiles

• boost the sales of specific product groups within existing exhibitions which remain untapped

• generate more sales from the local (MENA region) market

• develop the conferences and thus increase sponsorship opportunities

• generate added revenues from the additional services departments

(Below is a brief summary of the Planned Head Count)

Pakistani Independence Day The Indo-Pak subcontinent remained a British colony from 1849–1947. Pakistan gained independence from the British rule on August 14, 1947. At that time, Pakistan had two parts commonly referred to as East and West Pakistan. In 1971 East Paki-stan parted from West Pakistan and became Bangladesh. Independence Day is an official holiday in Pakistan on August 14. All governmental, non-governmental offices, organizations, educational institutions, post offices, and major markets are closed. Pakistan’s national flag is hoisted on public, private buildings, residences and monu-ments at dawn. Official buildings, including Parliament House, are decorated and colorfully lit. The prime minister and president address and congratulate the nation and talk about the day’s significance. Streets and houses are decorated with candles, oil lamps and pennants. Firework shows are put together on the eve of Independence Day. Many people who attend the Independence Day parades dress up in green and white, which are the Pakistani flag’s colors as well as Pakistan’s official colors. White repre-sents peace while green symbolizes prosperity and good fortune.

Who said Kiwi's couldn't fly?

An alleged harassment incident was reported by Sarah Jamella Salera 25 years old, a Filipina, mother of one, against Show Manager Baba Bakshi, Indian. According to witnesses Salera was just peacefully sipping her Nero coffee while humming her favourite nursery rhyme baba black sheep when suddenly..
