WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE?


Let’s make a difference together!

• Fewer Canadians have been donating, donations are down

• We want to change that!

• We challenge all Canadians to get involved and join the CanadaHelps Great Canadian Giving Challenge!


The Challenge

• To increase charitable giving in Canada

• To demonstrate the power of social networking to support a cause


Create a GivingPage

• Go to www.givingchallenge.ca

• Create the GivingPage between Nov. 23 to Dec. 20, 2009


Pick your charity

• You can raise funds for any registered Canadian charity

• Pick the cause when you create your GivingPage


Tell everyone in your network!

• Once you’ve set up your GivingPage, promote it to everyone: friends, family, colleagues

• Your GivingPage has a SHARE function that makes it simple


Rise to the Top

• By raising the most funds or attracting the most donors, youwill rise to the top!

• Get tips on this section of the site


In the Lead

• See the current leaders for each category

• Check back often to see how you’re doing

How do I join?

• Joining is really easy!

• Go to www.givingchallenge.ca and click “JOIN THE CHALLENGE”

Only four weeks!

• The CanadaHelps Great Canadian Giving Challenge lasts from November 23rd to December 20th (Noon) ET

• Only GivingPages set up between November 23rd and December 20th

are part of the challenge

• Start informing your networks and planning your strategy today!


Get your friends to join!

• Get your friends to join and challenge each other

• See who can raise more funds for their charity of choice

• Bet a fancy dinner, laundry for a week or just bragging rights!

Keep track to stay on track

• Set a goal for how much you want to raise and how many donations you want to receive

• You can include a progress thermometer on your page

• Make sure to check the In The Lead section frequently to see if you’re winning!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


Do the people who give through my GivingPage get a tax receipt?

• Yes, everyone who donates through your GivingPage will instantly receive an electronic tax receipt by email.


Is the Giving Challenge available in French?

• Not this year

• You can set up a GivingPage in French and connect with your friends, but the process will be in English

• Any registered Canadian charity can still win a prize (whether English or French)


I want to get my company involved –how can we participate?

• Let employees know about the Giving Challenge and ask them to join the Giving Challenge

• Set up a page per department

• Compete to raise the most funds (between departments or other local businesses)

• Set up a GivingPage for your company and ask your employees, customers and friends to donate

Ask people to donate

• Set a goal for how much you would like to raise

• Ask people to donate a specific amount

• Because the CanadaHelps Great Canadian Giving Challenge is online, we encourage you to use online communications tools to reach your donors, including:– Email, Facebook, Twitter, Blogs and LinkedIn

• Turn the CanadaHelps Great Canadian Giving Challenge into a personal competition with your friends or colleagues

• A great way to make the challenge more personal is to compete against people you know to raise the most funds


Tips for Charities

• Promote the Giving Challenge in communications with your supporters:– Include an article in your newsletter

– Send out an email to supporters

– Ask volunteers to get involved in the challenge

• Include details about the Giving Challenge on your website and in your blog
