CONFERENCE TIME Our annual conference day is coming up on Friday, October 30. You will
soon be contacted by your classroom teacher regarding the time reserved for a
conference on your child’s first quarter report card. Please respond as soon as
possible to your teacher’s request for confirmation of the scheduled time.
Every effort will be made to accommodate parents’ schedules. The teachers
look forward to discussing your child’s progress.
SAVE THE DATE The Muliticultural Festival is only a couple of weeks away. It is an event that
our students look forward to and an opportunity for families to visit with one
another.

MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL FUNDRAISER 1st Toy & Book Walk and your help is needed to make it a success. We
need gently used books and toys $10 and under, if you would like to
donate a toy or gently used book to this very popular event, please see
the attached flyer.
MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL Pursuant to state laws governing medications at school, the following policies are in effect:
1. For the safety of all students, no student is allowed to have any medication in his or her possession, including cough
drops and breath mints. The only exceptions are Epi-pens, Ana-kits, or asthma inhalers for students older than Junior
Kindergarten.
2. All medications must be delivered to the school office by a parent.
3. Medication instructions must be on file in the school office.
4. Prescribed medications must be kept in the original container with the student and doctor’s names and dosage
instructions clearly written.
5. Over the counter medication must be in the original container and enclosed in a zip lock bag with the child’s name and
dosage instructions written by the prescribing physician.
MULTICULTURAL FESTIVAL WISHLIST Our annual Multicultural Festival Fundraiser is coming up on Saturday,
October 24, and we need your help gathering items and services for the
event. Volunteer hours will be awarded for donations ($20 of donations =
1 volunteer hour).
Special note: Each student who attends the Multicultural Festival will be
entered into a raffle to have lunch with the Headmaster, Mr. Blanks and
a friend of his or her choosing.
SPONSPORSHIP OPPORTUNITY!
Showcase your company by displaying your logo on
this year’s Festival T-Shirt! T-shirt will be included
in Pre-sale Bundles and sold separately in child and
adult sizes. Spaces are limited and will be sold on a
first come, first served basis. Due date for all black
and white company logos is October 7th. See the t-
shirt flyer in today’s Lion.
Special note: earn up to 2 volunteer hours by wearing
the Multicultural Festival Shirt to the Festival. (1
hour for one family member and 2 for two or more
family members.)

HOMEWORK HAVEN Middle school students now have an opportunity to receive help on
homework assignments and projects. Monday through Thursday, from
3:30 to 4:30, a middle school teacher will be available to assist students.
Parents can sign up in the morning on the sheets posted in the middle
school building hallway or by telephoning the office. The fee is $30 paid
directly to the teacher of the day. Students are encouraged to take
advantage of this opportunity to get a head start on assignments.

for a delicious, nutritious, and reasonably priced lunch for

variety in menu selections! A standard meal includes a main

BAKE SALE The children look forward to Bake Sale! When it is your child’s
class week to participate, it is greatly appreciated. Please be
reminded that NUTS ARE NOT ALLOWED. We
have children with severe allergies to nuts. Please ensure all
donations brought to the Bake Sale room are nut free. Also,
be mindful of expiration dates on packaged items. Thank you!
ENSEMBLE Auditions were held this past week for students interested in
joining Ensemble. Congratulations to the 2015-2016 Carden
School of Fresno Ensemble! The first rehearsal will be
Friday, October 9, from 2:30-3:00 and every Friday thereafter.

Dear Carden parents:
Cross Country practice will begin Monday, September 28. Practices will be held Monday – Wednesday,
3:20 – 4:20 pm. Students should wear appropriate attire and shoes for all practices.
Carden students in grades 3 -8 may participate in Cross- country.
The total cost is $50.00, which covers all meets, uniforms, and coaching fees. A uniform is provided for
competition. Please make checks payable to Carden School of Fresno. Fees are non-refundable.
Parents will need to provide transportation to scheduled events. Most Cross-country meets will be held
during the week, but some will be on Saturdays. Please note: Depending on the events in which your
child is competing, the cross country meet will be 1-4 hours in duration. Please plan accordingly.
If your child is interested in participating, please sign below and return the permission form. Three
other forms must be submitted to the office as well. A Parent Permission for Sports Participation,
Sports Code of Ethics, and the Sports Screening Assessment form administered by a physician or a copy
of a recent physical exam from the past twelve months. These forms are available from the Carden
Website (http://cardenschooloffresno.net). Students may not participate until all forms are submitted
to the office.

Mr. Aalto and Mr. Anderson on the campus of Carden School located at 6901 N. Maple Ave. and
elsewhere as necessary for competition. I understand that the students will be transported in private

On Saturday, October 24, Carden Parent Club will sponsor, “The Multicultural Festival & Silent Auction.” This year’s event will feature international cuisine, three bounce houses, a photo booth, face painting, the toy and treat walk, a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction, and an array of other fun events.
If you are unable to attend this event and have a desire to be a part of the Multicultural Festival, you can contribute with a donation. Your donation will go toward the overall expense of the event. Funds raised will help purchase needed school supplies and assist with school sponsored activities. In the past, your generous donations have provided upgrades to Carden's computer lab, new equipment for middle school, film and media equipment, new sports equipment and uniforms, new science equipment, new laptops for our staff, new Carden signage, playground repairs, a new long jump pit, and stipends to assist teachers in purchasing class supplies. We look forward to celebrating with all of our Carden students, families, and friends.

The Multicutural Festival is fast approaching! This year we are celebrating the diverse cultures that make up our beloved school!
The focus of our auction this year will be children’s items and activities, as well as family activities. Some fun items are sports items, lessons, themed baskets, apparel, and LEGO sets. Family events might include movie tickets for four, tickets to theme parks, gift certificates, Tac Ops, laser tag, rock climbing, and passes to the zoo. Let your creativity flow!
