Annie Get Your Gun Annie Oakley is the best shot around, and she manages to support her little brother and sisters by selling the game she hunts. Col. Buffalo Bill gives Annie her start in show business when he persuades this novel sharpshooter to join his Wild West show. It only takes one glance for her to fall head over heels for the dashing shooting ace Frank Butler, who headlines the show. But can Frank’s ego stand a female rival sharpshooter? Originally produced by Rogers and Hammerstein, Annie Get Your Gun, starring Ethel Merman opened at the Imperal Theatre in New York City on May 16, 1946, and ran for 1,147 performances. The score, generally considered Berlin’s best, contains the song which has become the professional anthem of entertain-ment, “There’s No Business Like Show Business”. It scored a bulls eye when it returned to Broadway in 1999, starring Bernadette Peters and sporting a revised libretto by Tony, Oscar and Emmy winner Peter Stone. Stone reshaped the book to create a Wild West show within-a -show that frames the ageless love story of Annie Oakley and Frank Butler.

Chairman’s Message As one of the first Associations Not For Profit formed in the Cayman Islands, the Cayman Drama Society is proud of the work which it has done within the community over the past 36 years to promote the culture of performing arts and to provide high quality entertainment for the benefit of the public. Our past and future survival depends upon a total cross-section of the population: • Our members who support us by payment of subscriptions but, much more valuably, by the

contribution of their time and talents, particularly our volunteer directors, production teams, technical crews, and the hundreds of performers who have appeared on stage over the years;

• Our Patrons who show their appreciation of our work by personal financial commitment; • The corporate sector within the Cayman Islands who advertise in our programmes, offer sponsorship

for particular productions, and our Friends of the Theatre who donate goods and services for the operation of the Prospect Playhouse;

• The Cayman Islands Government, through the Ministry of Education, Training, Employment, Youth, Sports and Culture who have recognised the valuable work which we are doing in the development of culture, youth and education for the ongoing benefit of the entire community;

• You, our audiences, without whom all of the above would represent wasted effort. We invite you to sit back and be transported back to the Old West for a truly memorable evening’s entertainment as you enjoy Annie Get Your Gun. Alan Hall Chairman – Cayman Drama Society

Sue Horrocks—Musical Director Joyce Fell—Accompanist

Director’s Message It is with great pride that we are able to bring this CDS production of Annie Get Your Gun to the Cayman Public. It’s amazing that this musical is as appealing to audiences today as it was over 50 years ago. This is truly Irving Berlin at his best. I’m still a novice at directing, as most of my experience has been on stage. This show has been an enormous challenge, as it is my first time directing a musical and I have never worked with so large a cast. We have a cast of 37 in addition to our orchestra. We’re so fortunate to have such an incredibly talented and capable cast and crew. Everyone has worked so hard, and given so much of their time, energy and support to this production. It takes a lot of people to bring a show like this to the stage, and there are no words to express my gratitude for everyone’s dedication to this project. We have whole families involved in this show, which has made it a “family” show in every sense of the word. To all of the cast and crew member’s families and partners, whose patience during these past months has been so unending, we thank you. Thank you also to the CDS and it’s members, and our sponsors, for all of their assistance and support in helping us to turn our desire to bring this wonderful show to the stage, into a reality. You’ll see a lot of new faces amongst the familiar ones in this production, and we’re delighted to welcome them to the Prospect Playhouse stage and the CDS. We’ve all made a lot of new and wonderful friends during the last few months, and we look forward to sharing the fruits of our labor with you, our audience. I’m very proud to have been a part of this production. We hope to offer you a fantastic theatrical experience within the walls of the Prospect Playhouse, and may you leave the theatre with a smile, humming a tune, because after all,…... there’s no business like show business. Wendy Moore has been performing with the CDS since she was 17 in pantomimes, musicals and comedies. She has had a variety of roles including Eliza in My Fair Lady, Guinevere in Camelot, Lee in the comedy Accommodations and 82 year old Phoebe in the British comedy Haywire. She is enjoying working with this fun and talented cast and crew who are all just “Doin What Comes Naturlay”!

Neil Rooney: Neil’s local performing experiences range from solos with the National Choir & Orchestra to lead roles in CDS productions of Forever Plaid, Camelot , Side By Side By Sondheim and The Fantastiks, among others. This will be his favorite show of all, however, because he has the opportunity to share the stage with his wife Kelly and daughter Isabella for the first time.

Malcolm Ellis has lived in Cayman since 1992 and performing with the CDS for the past 10 years. He has appeared in comedies such as The Complete Works of William Shakespeare and The Complete History of America. On the dramatic side, he played George in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and Biff in Death of a Salesman. Malcolm also directed the romantic comedy "Accommodations". His most recent appearance was as Marley's Ghost in A Christmas Carol. He hopes to be somewhat livelier for this show, his first musical production.

Frank Braccia has been involved in the theater for many years. He has taught drama and directed schools shows and also worked with Opera companies in Philadelphia, Helsinki. Bonn and Cologne. He is originally from Philadelphia but has been in international education for the last 20 years living in Syria, Finland, Germany, Italy, Vietnam, Azerbaijan, and Brunei, he is currently the Vice Principal of St. Ignatius Catholic School.

Vanessa Hansen Allott moved to the Cayman Islands in 1998. She first appeared on the Prospect stage in Cry in the Night. She has taken on several roles over the years ranging from dramatic to comedic such as a “wannabe actor” in Accommodations. Annie Get Your Gun is her first show in more than two years and she is thrilled to be back on stage again.

David Verhoeven David has just started university and has already entertained audiences in Cayman. Last year he had the lead role in the St. Ignatius School production of ‘Bugsy Malone’. He is an avid drummer and recently played in the orchestra for the St Ignatius School produc-tion of Wizard of Oz. He is a member of the local rock band ‘Rogue Armada’.

Adam Roberts Adam is a trial attorney, who has not been on a stage since 1983. At school, he appeared in three school plays, as well as numerous lesser productions and the School Re-vue (written by the cast). At university, he went to the National Student Drama Festival and did several other productions. In 1983, he was in Tom Jones, but he had begun to lose his hair and in a blatantly baldist move was cast as an old codger. In 1984, he qualified as a lawyer and felt that prancing around in courtrooms satisfied his exhibitionist tendencies.

Lauren Moore has been involved in various kinds of stage productions, including poetry reading, dance and choir at the NCFA; school productions of Room 13 and Oliver!; and the CDS production of Peter Pan. She is thrilled to finally be sharing the stage with her mom, Wendy, after many years of watching her perform. Lauren is attending UCCI and plans to attend university in Texas in September.

Dennis Hue grew up in Jamaica and while in school he received many national titles for singing, speech and drama. He married and settled in Grand Cayman 1975. He has been involved in set construction and painting for CDS productions including The Burning Man, Magna Carta, Peter Pan, Elmina’s Kitchen and the Judith Code. He recently enjoyed principle roles in Elmina’s Kitchen and both productions of The Judith Code.

Stephanie Lewis attended the Harquail Theatre Camp at age 7 and at ten was picked for Gimistory and to traveled to Cayman Brac. She has entered the NCFA for 5 years now, winning gold each year for reading solo poetry and for solo singing. I played Oliver in the CPHS production and have been in 3 CDS plays: Peter Pan, A Christmas Carol and now Annie Get Your Gun.

Samantha Luiso is 14 years old and is currently studying at Cayman Prep & High School. She played the lead role of Herrianne in Spellbound, Dorothy in Wizard of Oz, Nancy in Oliver Twist. She was also in the Story Troopers traveling actors group and has done many film with the Mazerella Bros. Samantha also works with Model Club Inc.

Hannah Howe was born in Grand Cayman in 1998. She has been involved and performed with Miss Jackie’s School of Dance, her school choir and in school plays. She loves to sing, dance, play piano, do artwork and play soccer. She hopes to be involved in more theatre in the future. She is proud to be part of Annie Get Your Gun.

Luisa Roberts is 10 years old and a pupil at St. Ignatius. While at FBCS, she appeared in many productions, singing dancing and acting, from an orphan in ‘Annie’ to a granny last year via an angel in ‘Angel Alert’. This is her CDS debut

Isabella Rooney Bella's first singing gig was at age 4 singing the National Anthem for pre K sports day. Many solo's later and two Children's Festival of the Arts performances, Bella finds playing Little Jake the most fun out of anything she has done to date. She wishes to continue per-forming and one day wants to be a song writer.

Nera Braccia makes her Cayman theatrical debut with Annie Get Your Gun. She is however no novice to the stage and performance. Nera has performed in Dance and music recitals in Azerbaijan and Brunei and had a role in the children’s musical Monster Rock in Brunei. Nera is a young pianist and singer who also enjoys swimming, tap and ballet. Nera‘s next performance will be in Miss Jackie’s School of Dance show in June.
